Oh wow! That is so colorful and pretty.
Deciding to make some of my friends PYOs for Christmas means a heck of a lot of painting! I’m almost done with the Christmas presents though. (But they’ve given me a ton of ideas for PYOs I want to make for myself, or just to put up for sale.)
Anyhow, this one is the MOST fun, although also a ton of work! It glows in the dark, how awesome is that?! Although glow in the dark paint is awful to work with. It’s thick and gloopy, but takes a million coats. I had to stop before getting it perfectly smooth, because it was so thick it was starting to obscure the fur detail. (There’s like seven coats of it.) Also painting all those stripes… seven times each. Holy crap.
The design of this critter isn’t mine, it’s a character belonging to a friend of mine. I probably wouldn’t have inflicted all those stripes on myself!
But the end result was totally worth it, it came out amazing! (And has prompted me to get in some glow in the dark pigment powders, in hope that this will make painting glow things a little easier. We’ll see.)
Wow! I’m so glad everyone posts these they are so fun to look at… All the eye candy! You guys must have so much fun painting for each other like this!
There really have been a lot of fantastic pieces in this one. I am absolutely going to join the next swap.
That green and purple dragon makes me want to try something in green and purple. And the white fox is adorable (and so glossy! 😀 )
Can’t sleep, so I shall post PYO photos. I ADORE this guy. I have had a bunch of really good PYOs in a row now, I think. 😀 The interference blue on his feathers came out beautifully, and the subdued colors under it turned out even better than I’d planned. (Although I almost named him the bone gittygriff instead of the stone kittygriff, because “aged bone” is the name of the main paint color I used on him. But I didn’t want people to think he was meant to be creepy.)
Well, that’s quite a compliment! 😀
Thank you everyone. Hearing that people like my work always makes me happy.
I just finished another kittygriff, and also the kitsune I was working on earlier, I just need to get photos of them to post.
I think I’ve decided my next gryphon will be based on a kingfisher, too. It should be really fun to paint! I’m painting a lot right now because I’m giving PYOs to a few people for Christmas. Although the kingfisher will be just for fun, so I dunno when I’ll get to it.

Huh. I just tried it again, and now it works. Miraculous! 😀
Well, it’s not accessible for me, but I don’t have a Facebook account. (I know, I’m some kind of weirdo.) I can sometimes view stuff on Facebook though, so I’m wondering if your privacy settings might be preventing me?
Thank you everyone! I am really glad people like this one. It’s probably my favorite PYO I’ve painted so far.
I have the little kittygriff almost done too, and I’m working on a couple of more conventional paint jobs. So I’ll have more pics to post shortly. :3
I have a griffin I want to do in watercolor, and I’m trying to think up a color scheme for him. Any suggestions are welcome!
I did use the medium, yes. And thanks!
Well, I posted my results over in my thread, http://windstoneeditions.com/forum/sparks-pyos-copper-peacock-phoenix-watercolor-dec-4?page=1#comment-856993
I used good quality watercolors, so it should last. And I have to say that I really like working with watercolor! It was a lot of fun.
Just finished the bronze gold kirin. I decided you guys were right about antiquing, and it turned out fantastic.
P.S. I sold the other two, but the fire muse is still up for sale, just in case anybody’s interested.
Oh, and while I’m at it, have a sneak peek at my next couple of projects:
Watercolor PYOs! I got some of the Golden absorbent ground, and it works amazingly. Although I discovered that getting a perfect coat of a white base layer on a white statue is not easy. 😀
