Melody, I know I already made you blush before, but I just got to say, your sculpts of the gryphs have always taken my breath away. I had always been so disappointed fantasy book covers with gryphons on them or whatever and how bad the anatomy was and everything…then I walked into a store in Solvang, California to see the most beautiful sculpt of a black gryphon with iridescent wings I ever saw. I got hurried out (maybe because my dad saw my eyes go O.O), but I knew I had to own it someday.
Your sculptures just make such a picky artist like me happy. You can find fatnasy book covers where the dragon’s wings are coming out of their belly! It’s good to know that somebody’s doing their homework. 😀
And thank you for more gryphons, although it’ll be a while before I can afford a mate for my black griffy Skan…
The griffin candlelamp was my first Windstone. 😀 They’re spiffy, and I remember getting the last one Armiks had in stock (this was just when they retired them). Congrats! 😀
You can’t be worse than me. I’m mortified of trying my third and last time. *twitch* So mortified I’ve taken a long stress-related sabbatical from practicing.
I can never see myself as being a safe person to have as a driver. XD
That’s my problem. I have horribly shaky hands. Sometimes if my hands have slowed down enough I can get good shots of small sculpts, but I want to get a tripod someday for my sculptures. :
Your photos are brilliant! They have awesome lighting! 😀
Ironic that we have pictures of lizards and red/brown widow spiders so close together…when I lived in Southern California the resident backyard lizards would eat the black widows we’d get in our backyard. (Something of which we were very thankful. My heart always started racing once I saw that little red hourglass shape against black.)
I love lizards and geckos. I’m not big on crocs, alligators, and snakes just because that’s all that’s on nature shows now but I love the little guys. 😀
Gotta let this out…
I ARE SERIOUS GRYPHLET
THIS ARE SERIOUS THREAD.
(Not really.)
I love green. Green is to me as pink is to Ski. Love it.
That and yes, the lack of any production pieces so far with green eyes is a factor to me, too. I wonder how many different shades of blue there are in Windstone pieces. Icy pale blue, powdery blue, “Spice” blue…;-9 Lotsa blue, either way.
But yeah, mostly I like it ’cause green is my favourite colour. XD
Erm, yeah…it’s just my personal taste, but I’ve never liked blue + red.
But what do I know. I’m also weird in that like the emerald on the Orientals as opposed to Jade. :b ‘Cause I just like bright green.
(I only have eight pieces…I myself am in no position for a job besides “freelance artist and webdesigner” (In other words, I’m at the computer looking at Photoshop and Dreamweaver windows all the time) and my family can’t really afford too much “extravagance”. Most of my money goes to…food. XD Still…hoping for wolfie-coloured mama gryph for my birthday in June…*squeak, squeak*)
I think we had a topic like this before, but I’ll be darned if I can find it- this is such an active forum!
I dream of Windstones. This morning I was dreaming I had busted up my beloved black gryphon and I was frantically looking on the floor looking for all the pieces since I had the kind of materials I would’ve needed to fix him. (I’m pretty good with epoxy putty. If you break your OWN HANDMADE SCULPEY SCULPTURES while doing the paintjob you have to be) Of course, being a dream, it got worse and worse as time went by. XD
I also remembered the tailend of the dream where I think I was just hanging with Melody discussing…something. There all sorts of Windstones I’ve never seen before everywhere. XD
(Another dream where I was in the factory had a rough sculpture of a gryphon rolled over on his belly like a dog! SOCUTE.)
The one Windstone I want but always alludes me on eBay tends to haunt in my dreams. I always dream about going to a flea market or something and finding the Mother Griffin Gargoyle. 😡
*looks back up at whole post* Man, I dream more about Windstones than I’ve thought.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were. The texture is very distinctive almost fuzzy…honestly, maybe what I need to do is a Google search. XD
Haven’t seen the orieoles in my current yard. I used to have them all the time when I lived in Southern Cali. We also got dozens of hummingbirds at our feeder near dusk; it was amazing considering the fact that I’m used to hummingbirds who MUST have the feeder to themselves. In Cali there would sometimes be two hummingbirds sitting on one perch!
Fledgling bluebirds make mewling calls that remind me of a kitten that got drenched with water. It seems it was made specifically to break hearts. (I know they break mine!) XD
lamortefille wrote:Hey, I go to Wild Birds stores! lol I’m so happy the birds are starting to come back. I need to go buy some thistle for the goldfinches soon: -)
Really? Yay! I actually tend to see goldfinches more in the winter here in Missouri. In fact, the lousy winter had a lot of birds coming to our yard, including a northern flicker I hadn’t seen here before.
Summer and spring means baby bluebirds being raised in our yard, though, so I like those seasons best for birding. 😀
I started out college and found it a tad stressful for my various anxiety and social anxiety disorders, but the art classes were fun. Especially because of the name of art teacher who I had first period.
Yep, his name was Pena. I forgot if he had the accent over the “n”, but everybody just said it the American way. I think Melody does too…I’d have to look at our old emails because I asked her a long time ago.

Sort of an evil Muse? You’d really need a big paper cup to cover him! 😆
I have no idea why they’re called mushroom birds, I just found out that a few months ago when I’ve been collecting them for a while. (I don’t even remember when and where I got that duck!) Mushroom birds are little squat bird sculptures made out of stuff that seems to be similar in properties to paper mache. Craft stores have them, and if you have any wild bird stores* where you live, they should sell them.
*Yes I am enough of a bird geek to go to wild bird stores. XD
I wish I didn’t have shaky hands. I was waiting past the weekend since it was all rainy and blah outside to take photos with natural sunlight coming into my room. Then my hands decided to be all shaky and bad and I ended up using the flash, anyway. Bleh.
My desktop guardian, along with an OLD OLD sculpt of Dakota, my gryphon along with a maquette of Lillian, my screename-sake robot. Oh, and baby bluebird peeking out. Can’t forget the baby bluebird.
My headboard to my bed is actually a bookcase with a flat surface on top. The rest of my Windstones are here, along with other junk I’ve had since I was a kid. (Also you have the Mufasa and Simba figure, which I got for an amazingly low price on eBay. If only I could get more of those figures for only $35…)
I have never been able to photograph my black griffin properly. Ever. Even my prototype PYO’s that I did without any guidance from that wonderful tutorial Nam made later on look better than the black griffin. Oh…and seashells. I collect seashells. Those are more in my price range to collect. XD
My O. Sun Dragon lovlingly named Frank and my hippogriff. Frank is still being worked on- he had minor defects from sitting in a store for about 5 years (I bought him last year from the original store that carried him- meaning he must’ve been sitting there for a long while). I just need to put on a little more of the interference paint on one scale and cover it all with the gloss, and he’ll be done. The “mushroom” birds that sit at his feet are his friends. Or at least I say so. XD
That headboard is going to have to be completely re-organized once I get the wolf-coloured mama gryph. D:
