Congrats!  🙂
I have an obsession with those black cube shelves you hang on the wall. You can rearrange them to hold whatever looks best to you at the time, whether you like it for the utility or deco. My aquarium stand is black so shelving tends to be black in our house. I like off-white walls for the contrast.
Then all the colorful shinies stand out on the shelves nicely. The theme turned out to be ‘blacks and whites with splashes of bright’. I didn’t plan it that way though…..black is a basic color, for picture frames and shelves..and usually I can find stuff in black without having to deal with a ‘matching headache’. Our couch is a solid dark foresty green and it kinda works with the rest.
I also like those white hands for decorative bowls. They make them to hang on the wall but I haven’t bought any of those yet. Like this one:
editing this so it’s not a horribly embarrassing double post! Dunno what happened with the browser, usually it’s not a problem.
I’m so sorry to hear they’re going through this! Keep us posted on how things go for them, and let them know we hope things get better for them soon!
I have a small collection of ocarinas. I started learning to play last autumn. I like their sound, how portable they are…and that I can learn without knowing how to read sheet music.
Other than that…do my fish count?
I’m coffee in the morning and tea in the evening. not fond of iced tea normally, unless it’s flavored with peach, raspberry or mint. I’m known to sneak a spoonful of powdered hot cocoa mix into my morning coffee too.

I feel pathetic, my list is so short! I’ve been gone for a long while so mostly it’s new pieces I’ve never had the chance to grab!Old Warrior…just about any color. I miss the one I had to sell when we hit some rough times.
Lap Dragon…something earthy/shiny colored
mini keeper (earthy or water shades)
new hatcher (any earthy colors)
baby dragon (omg the new baby….in emerald or something foresty.)I like little pieces. They’re easier to slip into little nooks about the house.
Oh, I’d also like to add that I’m open to trade offers if anyone would like to choose items from my shop in exchange for items listed above.
Good luck to all with their respective wishlists!
~waves!~ It’s good to see you! (I also wandered off for a long while and popped back in recently!)
haha…you can tell this is a love of mine too. FISH NERDS AHOY!
Oh, also!
Plant recommendations:
aquarium pennywort…I’ve found it to be low fuss and aggressive grower. Love the stairstep lily pad look it has too.
cryptocoryne wendtii…again, nice beginner plant.
dwarf sagittaria..it’s taking over my tank and I love it.
Kent Pro Plant is the plant food I’ve been using. drfostersmith.com has free shipping options which help with cost.
Aquabid.com is like an ebay for fish and aquarium plants. I love getting plants from other aquarium keepers rather than the pet store….less risk of disease from someone that has only plants in the first place. Check their ratings just like ebay though.
and the biggest beginner tip I can give on plants is DONT PLANT THEM TOO DEEP. If you cover the rosette at the base of most plants they’ll die. Also, don’t panic if new plants initially die back some..they have to adjust to your water vs the water they’ve been grown in and a little recoup happens on occasion. Trim dead bits though so they don’t foul your water.
I second everything Jennifer said. She’s the zen master of fishkeeping here. 🙂
I would add in that cherry barbs are much milder than the other types and would probably be a good starter fish for that size tank.
I have a small school in my 75gal and they’re really mild fish. I like them.
If I were running a small tank (30-45gal) I’d snag a pair of rams and a few cherry barbs then leave it be. Lots of plants though.
One tip I found on a fish forum and have been using for the past few years is coarse (not fine!) black diamond blasting sand as a substrate. Nice glossy black sand, but wash thoroughly before using in tank. I’ve found it works better than gravel for my plant roots, and doesn’t pack overtight like standard sand would either. Plus it’s not costly at all. Rinse the heck out of it though.
omg…she’s my fave raffle in a long time…I just missed entering too! haha. Congrats on an amazing dragon!
Phantomess…that alligator is adorable! 😀
haha…I clicked this topic SO HARD when I saw it posted and had a little glee moment when Melody said she’d done one!
