Oh, was going to ask what do you all use to clean your brushes with, just water? I have seen solutions at the craft stores for cleaning brushes.. but was thinking thats a waste of money? And are there any particular brands of brushes I should aim for?

I just use good ole soap and water 🙂 I have a cup of water with me to wash my brushes as I am painting, but as far as the end of the day cleanup, I just take mine to the sink and gently wash them with a little bit of soap and water. Works for me!

XD Ditto on the soap and water! I think the brush cleaner solutions are just if you happen to forget to wash your brushes after you’re done with them for the day. But if your brushes weren’t expensive, it’s cheaper just to get a new brush in that case. Paint stiffened brushes never seem to go back to the way they were…no matter how much you try to get the dried paint out.

Very nice! I love all the step by step photos and explanations. Especially where you explained how you paint on antiquing with a brush. Very useful and it gives such a nice detailed effect. Thanks for sharing!

To Stormbreeze, sometimes…I wish I had skipped the human parts myself! lol One of these days I’ll have to list some of my book collection. I’m a huge dragon nut, so I have a lot of books that heavily focus on dragons. And a decent variety of other fantasy and sci-fi books too. Dinosaurs are a close second in my books! XD

To Amstaff, Thanks! You won’t believe how long I self consciously picked over it! Sadly, I have not actually SEEN any Bruce Lee movies. Which is a personal failing I think (because he’s a pretty impressive guy from what I understand). One day I will remedy this. But I must ask, which is YOUR favorite Bruce Lee movie? It’s always better to start with a recommendation. And what other shows do you favor? I’m always open to hearing about something to geek over that I haven’t heard about before.

I have to admit, there are definitely a large number of us on this forum. It’s nice to be able to commune without having to go to a convention to do so!

To Kim, I think fantasy is such an enormously large realm that it’s impossible to say that some of us here are more into it than others. You might be more into fantasy than you realize. 😉 Especially since you enjoy writing! And I have to ask, do you happen to write stories too? It really is nice to find a community that you can share your interests with so easily and openly.

And I know what you’re talking about in terms of the fantasy shops. We used to have a store around here that specialized in selling almost nothing but the Enchantica line of figures. But they went out of business several years ago. It was a sad loss. That’s why I’m glad we have the ability to go online and find these fun things now!

As for how many PYOs I’ve done…let me think. I’ve done 5 for myself, 2 for the swaps and 1 as a gift for a friend. So that makes 8 total (two griffons, two keepers, one unicorn, one little dragon, one mother foo and one father foo). I am currently working on a mother foo and I have a griffity and two flap cats in the wings (so to speak, lol). My Windstone collection is horribly small other than the PYOs I have. I only have one emerald peacock mother dragon. My favorite production pieces are the dragons, but I usually can’t afford to indulge in them. I would love to get a rainbow dragon! Preferably a rainbow rising spectral. I guess I’m just a sucker for bright, vibrant colors.

From your pictures, I think you’ve got a fine start going. On my nebula unicorn I used a LOT of thin layers. And as Melody said, Muses can’t be ruined. They’re for practice and experimentation. As has been said in previous comments, build up your color layers until you’re satisfied and you should do well. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your muse when it’s done!

Thank you everyone for the kind words 🙂 I really appreciate it! <3

Amstaff, Hellfire remains to be my pride and joy and I am looking forward to painting one for myself soon! (and a matching Malthael some day) I am glad someone recognizes him! 🙂 I have a friend who is going to be painting more pieces that relate to WoW a bit too, I'm really looking forward to seeing hers! 🙂

Here is a quick photo of my recent pride and joy! He just started his trip to his new home, I can't wait for his new owner to see him! <3

              This is Desert Sunset!

I’ll soon get the whole set of photos resized and uploaded (and to someplace that doesn’t kill quality, lol) I’m feeling slightly lazy right now ;p but I wanted to show him off too! lol..

Oh my gosh, I LOVE the wings! Gorgeous swirl patterns (they look like the shapes you see solar flares take coming off the sun)! -squees- Plus, orange and blue is my absolute favorite set of complementary colors!

I can’t find my old PYO thread, suppose it got lost in the forum transfer. I do still have all the photos, I can bring them here- but I’m nowhere near as good as the other painters. And I never could figure out how to post to the gallery.

Nonsense! You’re an excellent painter. I especially enjoyed seeing your latest dragon. And even though I don’t care for the foops, the mastiff coloration looks really good! I especially like the blue and green accents with the natural coloring. I wish you luck in getting the funds and time to pursue PYO painting as a hobby.

As of yet, I have not read Eragon. I have heard good things about the series so I may go see if they have it at my local library. Hopefully they do.

I actually have a mix of fantasy and sci-fi in different media. I have a lot of books (no more space on my bookshelves! ^_^;) as well as anime. 🙂

And as long as we’re mentioning books. I have a favorite titled, ‘Dragons Can Only Rust’ by Chrys Cymri. It has a nice mix of sci-fi and fantasy elements. The main character is an android in the form of dragon. It’s a story about his self discovery and search for a soul. It has a sequel titled, ‘Dragon Reforged’. Really quite good.

I think earlier you may have mentioned Dragonrider’s of Pern? I have read many of the books from that series when I was in middle and high school. I did enjoy the books and I do have favorites among them (Harper Hall of Pern trilogy). As I got older though I became dissatisfied with the portrayal of the queen dragon’s female riders getting so lost in their dragon’s breeding cycle that they’d become intimate with whichever rider whose dragon caught the gold dragon. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good series and well written with a great science fiction plot! I just became disappointed with that particular aspect of the story.

Thank you for the book recommendation and taking the time to read my introduction.

Mm, not sure if this pertains but…you can use old toothbrushes to scrub the grooves of shower doors and other hard to reach areas. And the plastic container that cat litter comes in can be used as a fine bucket. I use a rinsed out one in the pantry to store all the plastic grocery bags that don’t have holes in them for later use. The ones with holes go to the bag recycle boxes they have at grocery stores.

                                  Heck Yeah!

I work at our local Courthouse so work for the government and its a very hectic, stressful and thankless job. I Got into work this morning and got called into the supervisor’s office, that’s usually not good but it turned out to be super good for me!

The President of one of the courier companies we deal with sent a letter to the Justice Minister ( and then it made its way down the chain to us) stating how wonderful his experience was and he actually named me as being the clerk who was the wonderful person he dealt with and commending my ‘positive attitude, patience and professionalism’ when dealing with people. 😀

Honestly I don’t remember who this would have been, we get hundreds of people through our counter each day. My supervisor said its pretty impressive to have a company write to the Minister for someone doing a good job (we’re much, much more familiar with people complaining that we’re not doing things for them) and she was super happy for me and has put it on my personnel file.

Congratulations to you! That’s a really nice feather in the cap! XD
