I really like the green one on the left, Koishi. I don’t think i’ve seen this one before? I do usually look in the PYO forum.
One problem is that a very great many dogs that bite will be labeled as pits, when they’re mutts of indeterminate breeding (often with no apparent pit blood) or even apparent purebred of non-bully breeds. I worked in the animal control field, saw it constantly. “VICIOUS PITBULL ATTACKS CHILD!” read the headlines, see the dog and its a Walker coonhound. (but it has short hair, so it’s a pit…)
Of course, if it also happens to be brindle… had a family very angrily return a pup we’d adopted them, saying we lied about the breed, their vet insisted it was a pit because it was brindle… it was a GREYHOUND pup from a litter dumped by a closing racing kennel!
In my experience, little dogs= hates kids and will bite usually, can’t blame them, the world is intimidating because of their size and scared dogs deliver the most bites, probably why chaining a dog will make it bite. Their bites are often as not brushed off, though. Second (and most common biting breed/mixed breed) is Chows (and their close cousin Shar Peis); many shelters in this state automatically put down any Chow or dog suspected of being part Chow. Partly they’re mostly owned by losers, but a great many in good homes even turn out nasty- sorry darjeb, known hundreds and only a few were nice dogs. (Oriental breeds in general often aren’t the sweetest dogs) They were never originally bred as pets or to work with people guess is why. Terriers in general tend to be sharp, but they were bred to be that way. Bigger dogs= fewer bites, but those bites will be more serious and will almost always be reported. Most pits are total sweethearts even when they have known horrible treatment, but a pit is a powerful dog and attack is going to cause real injury or death. And the instinct to fight/kill other animals tends to be strong in them as a breed, so the normally sweet pit goes for Mrs. Jones’ Yorkie when it threatens the pit as Yorkies do, she tries to rescue her dog, ends up getting attacked herself by the battlelusting pit, which won’t end with just a bite…
A Chow, for instance, may be more inclined to bite, but it will probably be just a single snap and release bite, not a pit grip.
Sorry for being longwinded, having worked in the field it’s a pet topic. I don’t think breeds should be banned, even though there are some you couldn’t pay me to take (I do not but would own a pit). I do think owners who have had a vicous dog should be banned from owning any more dogs, unless they can establish (such as through vet records) that the problem was in the dog (i.e. rage syndrome, which seems to be a growing problem in many breeds) and not its raising/training/handling. Nor do I think insurers have a right to say whether you can own a dog, or what breed(s) they may be, unless you have had a problem with dogs (which should be law enforcement problem, not insurance one).Good question…
The only pieces I have with hang tags are my curlie, OG fledge, and emerald lap (which was purchased off eBay about 1 1/2 years ago; I don’t know its production date). The prototype OW doesn’t have one. All my other pieces (all OG or emerald) were purchased new, most roughly ’94-’95 or earlier, and never had them, or 1 was an eBay purchase (the mama coil) which didn’t have sign of one.
My mom’s emerald Sun Oriental was also purchased new, and didn’t come with one.
So apparently tags came out after OG was retired or close to its retirement, and also after the introduction of emerald (and scratchers, hatching royalty, male coils and Sun dragons). Unless the stores removed them…
Are there any colors which ALWAYS have tags? Besides the newest, of course. Maybe that could help narrow it.He’s gorgeous! I don’t see why he wouldn’t sell, and sell well. Very good blending of the colors, it looks so subtle! I’m sure my 1st dragon (when I finally get it that is) won’t be half as nice or well blended.
Congratulations, DM! At least she stays in the family. I was going to bid up to $2500, but my family situation rather imploded this weekend 🙁 , and frankly I wasn’t able to check the auction until it was over. Just as well I suppose, I really couldn’t justify spending that much at the moment (even though I’d bookmarked it for a SK or if an old green prototype was released). Enjoy her, and please Olympia paint another in a few months or so!
June 23, 2007 at 2:00 am in reply to: Does anyone know how to track an insured only package? #588228Yeah, it’s UPS for me anymore if I have a choice. 🙄
What with shipping packages often being cheaper with them now, no “OMG a side is 16 1/2″ that means it has to go as 30 lbs even though it weighs 3”, free or at least cheaper (and more accessible) services than USPS offers, and discovering that insurance is almost a scam to put money in the postmaster’s pocket, not to mention the surly attitudes at my closest P.O. …Yes, I know, there MAY be- but then again, there may NOT be- it’s left open ended, not like with the whites where we knew there’d be more. It’s just the old green is my true color-love, and there almost certainly won’t be an old green, or maybe anything else (including another spring green) that resembles it so well…I like the dichroic eyes, but can live without them if it would help me acquire one…
If only this had come up a few months from now, when things should be more stable 😥 😆
Anybody want to buy my firstborn? (and yes, I am joking)Cool experiment! My school was too boring for that.
I have a butterfly winged frog that came with a Barbie toy of my daughter’s. I stole it, it was too cute to be lost in the jetsam. A fairy frog, or very small dragon, would be just far out. (I’d think it would be great on a small- such as cowpie- sized dragon, perhaps with its features more gracile so it will appear lighter.)
😕 I’d vote yes for some larger pieces, but not so much because of personal reasons (though I’d love a keeper also). It would give a mix of sizes for purchasers to choose from, satisfying more tastes, and thereby perhaps result in overall more sales- both from new purchasers that prefer the new larger size to current small one, and existing ones who will have more variety to prevent burnout on a piece and inspire new ideas.
😯 OMG… was just on eBay and saw her…*drool*
She’s close enough to old green in the pics to satisfy…
It would really REALLY hurt, but I have several K$ on my CC…
I just started that second job, even though my 1st has rumors floating they may change my shift, which means I’d quit…
but if SKs never make it to production, and this color won’t ever be redone (won’t buy a solid SK unless it’s old green or close to)…
What can I sell, eBay isn’t productive at the moment…
what to do… 😯FWIW, I sold my mom’s Whelan dragons for her a couple weeks back, and a few days ago one of the losing bidders contacted me to verify a second chance offer they’d received. Not from me, the winner already had the item. So the scammers seem to be watching high end dragon auctions.
(and durn eBay wouldn’t let me reply to the losing bidder and tell tehm it was a scam! I contacted their safety with the details, hopefully they were williing/able to warn the guy.)Sorry for being a computer nincompoop, but how do you go about creating an album? I’ve tried to create one for my one-and-only PYO, but I keep getting error messages when I try to upload an image from Photobucket; the originals on my computer it says are too big (I don’t have a clue how to shrink them, and don’t have Photoshop or anything).
I’d love dark blue also; maybe matched with a bright (like emerald, not yellow) green? I don’t like yellowish greens, but love dark/bluish ones.
I got the frogs for my mother and they’re so cute! 🙂
I must admit though, the wizard’s my favorite. He just looks so ticked off about something. I’m thinking of getting one for myself, instead of waiting a few decades for my mom’s.Edit to add: I also paid approx. $50 each for mine, sorry I didn’t say before.
😕 When the whites were in production, were workers allowed to make themselves a Christmas dragon? Like how we heard the blue eyed old greens came into being? Could it be a one-off a worker made themselves, that has since moved on to someone who doesn’t know its history?
