I am waiting on a package that is way overdue and its insured for $270.00. The seller didn’t put delivery confirmation or tracking on the package…but I do have the receipt information and the insurance number.

Does anyone know if I go to the post office, will they be able to track the package? No info about that is available that I could find on post office website. And it wont use the receipt or insurance numbers to allow me to track it.

Anyone have this happen to them?

      Thanks Kaya

You cant use the insurance to track a package, sorry, 🙁 but you can make the claim after so many weeks if the package does not show up. Dont remember how long it has to be, though.

With insured packages you can not file a claim for loss until 21 days after date of mailing but you have to do it no later than 180 days from date of mailing.

And I thought you could use the insurance number to track it. I can’t remember for sure though.

The package has a barcode on it because the insurance is over $200…but I am worried Ski is right….

Since there’s a barcode on it you might be able to get information at the post office, provided the package has been scanned along its way too you. Some postal workers forget to do this.

Happened to me recently with LIH’s peacock fledge. He got scanned when she dropped him off and then no one else scanned him so I was surprised when my mailman rang my doorbell for me to sign the card for him.

Good luck tracking down your package. I hate to say it, but are you sure your seller gave you the right information?

I’ve been told they cannot track it time and time again. They don’t scan it as it travels like UPS does; usually just when they pick it up and once it arrives. 🙁 Good luck.

You can call the originating post office with the insurance number (the post office it was mailed from), and they should be able to tell you something about its location. I’ve known that to work before. Things may be different now after the change on May 14th.

If I can not find it (it is the Triceratops I paid over $200 for) I am gonna vomit!!!!

I will try my post office hoping my little pink slip got lost!!!! And then I will go from there!!! At least it was insured!

That was not that long ago, was it? Give it some time. I have had packages take up to 8 weeks. 😕

Yay! *bounces around* Work question. While I’m at work. Convienent.

                          Answer:

                          No. Period.

Don’t bother calling the originating post office either. All we can do is look up on usps.com and tell you what that says. (usually just origination PO info)

That’s it. Only those that have paid for tracking (delivery com) gets tracking.

This however, is a good idea. Those things are small and do tend to get stuffed in a catolog etc. when we are not careful.

                            Questions!:

From what state to what state was it sent?

How far and how many gateways your parcel has to go through is a factor.

                            Priority or Parcel Post?

Another BIG factor. This means the difference of up to 8 weeks. Parcel Post is sent by truck on a space avalible basis. This means if there is only so much room on the truck, Priority gets on first and any space avalible mail gets left behind until the next truck.

If you don’t know how it was sent, but you know how much shipping cost was and know both states I can tell you how it was sent.

The package is semi trackable…meaning that it did leave or originate from the Alabama Post office. It did not get here yet to Louisiana. Oh and it is parcel post, if I had realized I would have asked to have it sent in a better way.

The postmaster is having them post a note to lookout for the package, since my mail has been so screwed up. They reassured me and that made me feel better. At least I know someone didn’t pick up my package and that the mail carrier didn’t deliver the pick up notice to someone else….

When my route carrier is ill (often) the subs deliver my mail to the whole neighborhood…..I get mail from at least three or four addresses and they get my mail. I also get theirs…and some neighbors keep what they want…like $50 worth of Viper magazines 🙂 I can’t prove that, but the VCA sent me new ones via Fedex.

I wouldn’t be worried if the mail here was more dependable. I have never had this much trouble with my mail. It is every week…so finally today, I talked to the post master and he was very nice.

Next time it’s UPS or with a tracking number..

You could put in a notice and then you go pick up your mail at the Post office. That would save you a lot of headache.
