Oooh loving Toaster! What about horns similar to on the Male and Mother? I actually like their horns better than the pewter ones.
How are you making out with the wicked frontline, Mimi?
I forgot to mention no enamels, for the same reason as the oils. A small patch is okay though.
If you like, pick up a cheap ceramic figure to practice on first. It can help give you an idea how the paints/brushes/techniques will work on a sculpt if this is all new for you.
Good luck, I’m sure you’ll do fine! We love to see people’s work here, when you’re done. Or even in progress.
Windstone recommends Golden fluid body acrylics, and I find them the best. They’re archival quality, thin enough not to obscure details on the sculpt, and have a depth/life that most acrylics seem to lack to me.
You don’t want to use heavy body or thick paints, as they can obscure details. You also don’t want to use oils, they don’t allow the gypsum to breathe.
I really don’t know the best brushes, sorry.
Using a retarder (Golden makes one) will slow the drying time of your paint, which helps. If you’re mixing your own colors, doing so in small sealable pots or jars may help, keeping them from drying so you don’t have to try and match color (as much).
I’m with Veryalive and Etruscan. I’m always happy to see a new Windstone!
If it’s just something to keep the one dragon safe while he’s making your shelf beautiful, you can get display boxes/cases in various sizes at Michael’s. Other art/craft/hobby stores might have them too.
Welcome to the family!January 31, 2024 at 2:50 pm in reply to: What are your squeaks? Tell Melody here!! (part 2) #1680396I could go for Elven. Both rock dragons!
If/when Toaster is released, that it also be in most color families. Crossing everything crossable!
No need to respond (maybe TMI) but the time matches up… wasn’t the Flea World flea market in Sanford FL was it? Just because way back when one of the vendors there was a dealer in authentic Windstones. You may have been seeing the real deal if so. But I also have a resin/acrylic knockoff from a different vendor there.
I have a couple Country Artists wildlife pieces and they are very nice, even if they don’t quite reach the level of Windstones.
My mom got hers and she is happy lol, thank you so much!
Mimi, I opened the wrapped box and thank you so much, I have a small cloissone collection and I love it! I will post a pic tomorrow when I can get on the real computer.
It’s a gorgeous cloissone egg with a display stand. You guys are brilliant- that was great!
I bought my first house today! I’ll be moving in over the next couple weeks.
Huge congratulations!

There’s an emerald coil up that looks jade in the photo. Could just be the pic though.
