Although I’ve been writing stories basically since I learned to write on paper, I’ve only written one fanfiction: a Silent Hill fanfic. I’m a big fan of the Silent Hill game series!
I’m not particularly proud of that fanfic, though… -_- Some of it was pretty awesome and well written, I must say, but on the whole, it sucked. It had a pretty ridiculous backstory and symbolism. I really like the atmosphere I created in parts, though.Formerly had the Batman & Joker avatar!
I haven’t really dropped into this part of the forum much!
I shouldn’t really have spent the money, but I couldn’t help myself- I just ordered paperbacks of both your books! They look so good, and it seems so awesome to read a book by someone I… kinda sorta know? 😀Since I don’t spend nearly as much time reading as I used to, I won’t be flying through them like some of the above posters, but they are next on my list to read.

^Cute foxes!
And haha, I have a Windstone named Gandalf too. My silver old warrior is Gandalf and my white emperor is Saruman. Lol.Formerly had the Batman & Joker avatar!
As for being online when the auction ends, if you really want the item, you’ll be there either way.
Well, I don’t necessarily agree with that. If I’m at work I have absolutely no ability to do so. I guess if we’re talking extreme terms, you’re right, a person could request off work and plan everything around it (at least, for some people that could be possible), but my point was I don’t feel a person should have to in order to have a chance.
Regardless of the fact that my understanding of how much a bid loses by was messed up, I just don’t really understand waiting until the last moment to bid.
First of all, it is not yours merely because you are leading in the bidding, and you cannot “lose” something that was not yours to begin with. Bidders should not allow themselves to fall into that mindset; you are not entitled to the item unless you are the ultimate winner.
By saying they’ve lost, I don’t think anyone is claiming the item was theirs. To “win” and “lose” are terms you use in an auction situation, that’s all. At least that was how I meant the word in my post.
Nor was anything in my post meant to insinuate I deserved the dragon I bid on more than anyone else. I feel like my words are being read too much into for people grasping for things to be offended at.
I also specifically said I did blame myself for losing the dragon since I didn’t realize the value of the piece at the time. And me mentioning the fact that I don’t have money to bid very often was certainly not meant to be a pity party or saying bad things towards people with more money. I stated it as the reason that this whole topic doesn’t affect me a whole lot since I don’t bid often.I don’t really feel the desire to comment on anything else, as my opinion is what it is. As I said, I’m not pissed at anyone for sniping, and may try it myself if and when I bid on something like that again. It’s just not my preferred way of doing things. Sorry if that upsets anyone but oh well. The topic asked! I’m moving on now as this really isn’t a big deal to me.

I almost only collect the dragons, and the only ones that I have 2 of are curlies. Obviously my collection isn’t particularly big compared to many. I don’t have a ton of space or money, so I figure why buy multiple ones of the same sculpt? I try to get a different sculpt & color each time. 😀

I’m not a big fan of e-bay partly for this reason. I don’t hate people for sniping, but it annoys the crap out of me. I’ve actually only bid on 2 Windstone things ever. The first one was before I even realized people sniped. It was a certain dragon I really wanted to have because I collect dragons AND military/camo stuff, and this was a camo dragon (also was a sculpt I did not own). Obviously lost that one at the last second by like 5 dollars. It’s not like I wouldn’t have been willing to pay 5 bucks more, but I of course had to put some number as my max bid. That’s the problem. They’ll always get it for just barely higher than your max, which means you probably would’ve paid that much too, but by sniping you weren’t given a chance.
(I’ve actually been kicking myself over that bid for quite some time, because I’ve since learned that the price it went for was a really good deal for a test paint- even production colors of that sculpt often go for as much!)I’d prefer people to be open from the beginning by bidding to show their interest and what they’re thinking of spending on it, and then if you feel like putting in a bid and then maybe a higher one, you can. Like traditional bidding. It gives you time to figure out if you want to or can spend more, and also, it may be impossible for some people (especially those of us without smartphones) to be online at the time bidding ends. I don’t think people should have to plan their lives around being online at the precise moment to have a chance for that. I don’t see how that’s considered easier than bidding at your leisure.
If I sounded butthurt in this post, well, I’m not really. Those are my thoughts but my feelings on it aren’t particularly strong, and it doesn’t affect me much since I usually don’t have the money to bid on much of anything anyhow.
