Was there ever a production Lap Dragon in Rainbow? I’ve never seen one, so I’d *love* it if those came into production! (Or Limited Production, if you must.)

Sometime next year would be perfect. (June is my birthday month, hint hint!)

I’d also love to see Laps in the Ruby-Replacement color, especially Silver or Copper Mauve. (Third choice: Ember.)

…I bet you can guess my favorite sculpt. ::grins::

Took the White OW off — I got one! A week before they sold out, too, so I’m ecstatic! 🙂 (I did put this in the subject line of the new list, exactly because I thought it might be hard to spot the difference.)

What do you girls and guys like to do when you paint your PYO’s, or just do artsy things in general?

          I drink tea. 🙂

Sometimes I have music, but not often (partly because I’m lazy and haven’t charged my iPod in, like, a month); I end up mostly tuning it out anyway.

Tea is pretty much a constant. I don’t know if it’s the warmth, or the something-else-to-do-with-my-hands-while-pondering, or the fun of preparation and selection, but I pretty much always make tea before I get down to serious artsy stuff.

The only downside is that I have been known to mistake the teacup for the water cup when rinsing brushes. ::laughter:: I guess I get pretty caught up in painting, when it’s going well!

Wow, that’s awesome! Good luck with publishers! (It really does bite about the no-unsolicited-manuscripts thing. So many of the writers I love got their start from an editor’s “slushpile” that I hate how the practice has declined!)

Maybe you should look into Web publishing — eBooks? Isn’t there a somewhat well-known site out there that does that (reputably, I mean)? Or am I thinking of some hardcopy printer’s website, like the Baen Free Library? Hmm.

Either way, let me (okay, all of us Forum-goers) know when it does find a publisher! I promise to buy a copy! 🙂

I can eat fish if it’s served to me, but I don’t really enjoy it. So I was wondering if some of you would like to share their favorite fish recipes?

For me, nothing beats salmon with lemon juice and pepper (a little butter in the skillet to help in cooking). Leave the skin on to keep the meat from burning; it will peel right off afterwards.

Salmon is kind of a pain because of the deboning (you can skip that if you don’t mind chewing very carefully — the bones are edible, they just aren’t nice as surprises), so the same thing works great with tilapia — you can get frozen filets ready-to-cook from Kroger, etc.

Fish tacos are also yummy! If you have some kind of Southwestern seasoning (or you can make your own), put a dab of oil in a skillet and rub fish (anything plain — tilapia, cod, haddock, etc) with Southwest seasoning; when it’s cooked, flake/chop it into a taco shell or tortilla with salsa, chopped cilantro, and your favorite taco fillings. Delicious! Might be a good way to “ease” into fish, too, since you’ll have all the spices and co-ingredients — not just straight-out undisguised fish. 🙂

Looking for good dragon-focused books? Want to tell everyone about the ones you’ve found? I hereby devote this thread to Most Excellent Literary Dragons (gryphons and ki-rin welcome, too, but maybe we should leave the unicorns for a separate thread).

                  I’ll start!

Herewith commences the Grand List of Nightcrow’s favorite dragon books:

Donn Kushner, A Book Dragon — the story of Nonesuch the dragon, who chooses for his treasure a beautiful illustrated manuscript, and his guardianship of it throughout the years. (Adorable!)

Patricia Briggs, Dragon Bones (and sequel Dragon Blood) — Ward is the son of the Lord of Hurog, an ancient keep once said to be the home of dragons; when Ward’s father dies, he has to prove himself worthy of becoming Hurog’s guardian. In doing so, Ward has a chance to undo past evils and restore dragons to the land.

Joanne Bertin, The Last Dragonlord (and sequel Dragon and Phoenix) — Bertin’s writing reminds me a lot of Mercedes Lackey, without being in the least derivative. The Dragonlords (shapeshifters who act as judges and lawgivers to humanity) are called in to judge who should take the throne after the Queen of Cassori’s untimely death. Linden Rathan, called the “last” Dragonlord because in 600 years he has not found his soulmate, finds himself in the middle of dangerous intrigue, dark magic, and doomed love.

Elizabeth Kerner, Song in the Silence (and sequels) — I love Kerner’s dragons! Original concepts, amazingly beautiful prose, and sentient dragons; what’s not to like? Lanen Kaelar sets out to find the fabled great dragons of old ballads, and succeeds beyond her wildest dreams.

Naomi Novik, His Majesty’s Dragon (and sequels) — Dragons instead of airplanes! Set in the era of Napoleon’s conquest of Europe, Novik tells the story of Captain Will Laurence (with his rare dragon Temeraire) and England’s Aerial Corps as they strive to protect their nation from Napoleon’s ambitions.

Anyone else have any good dragon books to share? (Or is anyone out there writing any good dragon books to share?) 🙂

I’ll ship it to you, or to your seller if you’re buying an OW from someone without a box. All I’m asking is that you pay the shipping cost; I just want it out of my living room! 🙂

Email is quicker for me than PMing or posting, but I’ll try to check both.

Exactly. And even if she does notice, you don’t have to say why, or make the reason personal. A simple “It’s really too small/too dark/not enough room in there” or “lately I’ve had some problems with the cats knocking stuff over” is a perfectly reasonable way to explain why you’d rather be somewhere else. You don’t have to attack her or hurt her feelings.

If she pushes it, be firm — “no, I’d really rather not go in there today, so let’s stay out here or go somewhere else.” Aggressive personalities can learn to take No for an answer; just don’t bend or let it escalate into emotional/personal levels.

I don’t let my five-year-old cousin go in my room, because I have expensive things in there and I am not a paid babysitter — I’m not going to follow him around and watch him constantly. You’re not your friend’s babysitter, and she doesn’t want to be treated like a child, so keeping her out sounds like the best solution for everybody.

Although if I calculated based on status at time of purchase, it’d be a lot lower; maybe 50% ? I’ve bought, post-retirement, two Whites, an Emerald, two Peacocks, a Frog, and one LP, plus, possibly, a Ki-Rin (can’t actually remember if I bought him just before or just after they retired). So 8 out of 18 pieces… that makes close to 44% (again, I’m leaving PYOs out; otherwise it’d be a total of 22 pieces!).

What Basilisk said! A little rest before the holidays sounds like a good idea, especially since I at least don’t have much chance of receiving Windstones for the holiday anyway. Release ’em in January or something, so people have something to spend Christmas money on. Or maybe in June, as far away from the expenses of the holidays as possible.

And I feel I must add (Melody, are you here?) that I’m holding out for Silver if we can’t have purple! With blue, light blue, dark blue, green, or lavender eyes, I don’t care. SILVER SILVER SILVER! I would buy… pretty much every piece in Silver, because I missed out on the OW auctions…

We have enough warm colors, between Gold and Black Gold. Em-Pea is cool but bright; Silver would be a nice contrast to all of them, really different, being cool but subdued/dark! It’s perfect!

*Silver (Prototype) Old Warrior — up to $600? up to $800 if they’ll let me make payments!

*Autumn Leaf (Prototype) Old Warrior — hahahahaHA! Yeah, right. But if for some bizarre reason you do see him (I think there’s only one in the world) for sale, please let me know!!!!

I’m okay with minor damages on the older items — I’m sure there are a lot more scuffed Tan Griffins out there than there are perfectly pristine ones! 🙂 Anything but big missing chunks (unless it’s dirt-cheap) or cigarette smoke. It’s kind of a balance between getting it cheaper and getting it nice… Basically, if it seems like a good deal to you, go with it. 🙂

I’m also interested in any Whites you may find, but they’re a lesser priority — more of a “please tell me what you see” than a “buy immediately, repayment guaranteed.” (Of these, I’m especially interested in the White Male, Mother, Lap, Scratching, and/or Young.)

I’m with you, 100%. If Ember had orange eyes (and gold horns), I’d back that color. But the red eyes just don’t do it for me.
