Welcome to the club! As a longtime Breyer collector, myself, I can tell you for certain that a career shelling out large sums of money for plastic horses (I hope my Connoisseur Conga Line doesn’t see me calling them that…) is GREAT practice for Windstone collecting! 🙂

Try telling your pocketbook that Windstones weigh more, and so you are therefore getting “more” for your money than when you buy Breyers. (I tried that on mine; alas, all my pocketbook did was whisper something about heavier shipping fees before wasting away into near-collapse.)

No, but I’m currently in Memphis, TN — so I’m less than a state away! 🙂

What a great idea to picture them all on one easy page! I love it. (And them!)

I’m just curious why all of the ones I clicked on (at least a third of them) only say “Color: Fantasy”… Might as well not have a “color” field if they’re all going to say the same thing.

If you need help assessing equine colors, or something, I’m glad to help! Or is there an error in the coding somewhere that’s copying that line onto each page?

Ooooh, I would love a little Snerl! (When I say “little,” I’m thinking hold-in-the-hand size, not tiny. But I could be convinced to love a tiny!Snerl, too…)

And just think — he’d of course have the Windstone stamp on the bottom, so it would be Snerl-With-A-Snerl-Tattoo! ::laughs, ducks, runs::

I’m honestly split in opinion between “Copper Patina” and “Smooth/With Regular Windstone Colors”, and would love either one equally, though I voted for Copper Patina (on the grounds that it would be easier on Melody).

Haha, since mine are mostly packed up right now, this is like a pop quiz! 🙂

There will be some overlap, but this is the easiest way to tally them up, I think.

White Dragons
Emperor
Sitting Spectral

Mother
Young
Fledgling
Hatching Kinglet
—->still need: Hatching Emperor, Rising Spectral!

Peacock Dragons
all 3 Orientals!

There’s some of that on the horns of (I think) two of my Laps! Not sure what it is, but I suspect it’s to do with the pewter — it looks like the verdgris you see on copper or bronze, so I guess it’s some part of the pewter alloy reacting to air or moisture (or something in the gold?)…

Fortunately mine don’t have a whole lot of it on their horns, but I remember that at least one person had a ‘severely affected’ dragon when the topic first came up. Aside from poking it with my fingernails, I haven’t done much to try to remove it; it seemed pretty well fused, which is part of why I assume it’s a reaction in the metal itself and not, say, an overspray of primer or something organic like mold.

Maybe post a quick query in the “Ask Melody” section and see if she’s encountered it, or recalls where the first post was?

Only a few of mine have names. The BVP Prototype OW is named “Valkyrior” because his colors look like the aurora borealis, and there’s an old myth that the lights were the reflections/gleaming of the armor of the Valkyries (his name is the plural). (It dovetails neatly with his “battle damage” as ewll as his color scheme!)

My White Emperor is Glaurung — the name of a dragon in Middle Earth who was also known as the “Father of Dragons”; since the emperor is the largest (male) of the Whites, it fit him.

My White Male is Vasuki – a naga god with a gem on his head, and my White Female is Adelinde (“noble serpent”). The rest of the Whites are nameless, so far. (I expect at least a few more will pick up names at some point.)

All three of my Peacock Orientals are named after “reign-names” of Japanese emperors. The Sun is “Taishou” (Great Righteousness), the Oriental is “Shouwa” (Enlightened Peace), and the Young is “Heisei” (Peace Growing).

The Mouse Wizard’s name is Mastermage Razemanthis. (Before his apprenticeship, his name was Thistlewhiskers.)

All the rest are nameless at this time, though the Gothic Unicorn seems to be pondering the idea of proper unicorn nomenclature…

Oh, and I say definitely save the names like Skullsmiter and Bonecrusher and Bloodfield for the unicorns! That would be awesomely hilarious. 😀

I have a few that are named. Stormy of course came with his name. Then there’s Aubrey my black male griffin,

Aubrey! Did you, by chance, get him at a time when you were reading Mercedes Lackey novels? 😀 I was such a huge fan of those books, and while I loved Skan, I had a giant soft spot for Aubrey! I wouldn’t put it past you; after all, you’re already sufficiently awesome that you have a TLU signature image… 😀

I’m definitely seeing Chow! Hard to tell whether they’re pure Chow or not, at that age, especially without some sort of size reference (and a guess at their ages), but there’s definitely a good percentage in there! They will probably need an owner who is experienced at grooming, or else willing to pay the pros regularly.

I’d hit up Petfinder.com and do a search for your zip code with, say, a 50 mile range. Then take note of the organizations that come up in the results and contact them. I’m sure some have good placements rates or are no-kill facilities!

Is anyone willing to sell (or give?) me a Weight Watchers Points Finder? (The little cardboard thingy with the sliding part inside, not the fancy electronic things they have now.) It doesn’t have to be the newest version! However, I have lost mine and been unable to find it for the last month… and I have a bridesmaid dress I HAVE to fit into at the beginning of next month! So I’m really desperate to find one. 🙂 I have a bid going on ebay for one, but the auction doesn’t end for six days, and who knows, I might be outbid at the last minute anyway, resulting in a yet-less-time-to-spare second search!

So if you’d like to earn a dollar or two, respond here or email me, please! (It should fit in a standard envelope for $.44 postage, right?)

Thanks so much, everyone!

Gemstone eggs were what I thought of immediately. I see them fairly frequently in nature- or fantasy-type stores, and they even sell little display stands made to hold them, so they must be fairly popular… you might just go with a basic white/quartz/clear egg for all of them, to let you order in bulk and to prevent clashing with new colors. (LP, test, and special runs could have colored eggs; a nice extra touch?)

Edited to add: I haven’t seen a Coiled Mother in person, so I guess I didn’t realize quite how small her egg was. I admit the smallest stone eggs I’ve seen were probably an inch long, or a smidge over that. So if she needs something smaller, that’s probably very hard to find!

Could you cast a gypsum egg, (lacquer it if needed? not sure if porosity would flub the plating), and plate it? Might be easier in the long run, if you could use one good pewter egg to make a mold from…

Also is there a new color in the works coming out soon on any of the dragons with so many squeeks going on and all the various new colors on Ebayed stuf ?
Oh , and hows the search coming along for eggs for the coiled mother ?? 🙂

We had painted some Amethyst OWs but they all turned out to be “goof ups” due to bad paint. We haven’t been casting them, but if we have enough horns, we may start casting them.

All our eggs are rotten, and no prospects of finding a new pewter company, so I don’t know what we are going to do about that. Maybe I’ll change the object she is holding…

I am considering a new color for the dragons, but not sure yet. I really want to restock our store before adding new things, but I might do a batch of Serpentine dragons in limited production.

What about a stone egg? 😕 There are all kinds of neat semiprecious stones out there that polish up really nice that can be cut into eggs, any Lapidary shop could probably do it. And then the egg would look like “real” dragon eggs 😀

This. I don’t remember any voting-for-being-active-here thing, but that’s probably because my activity is highly sporadic — I may make twenty posts in a month, and then zero for the next two months. My presence seems to go up or down based on how much expendable income I have, combined with how many RL projects/tasks I have. (Since I’m currently only making about $400/week and have eight shifts per week, right now my activity level is “very low”…)
