Oh I totally agree! Half of the gags that my fav character of all time… Donald Duck… did were offensive to native americans… african americans etc…

But I am of the opinion that it has gone too far… you just have to deal with it and not watch it… or just not take it as offensive…

If you do… you miss out on SOOO many good things… that should not be considered totally bad because of ONE racial gag. πŸ˜›

What I find really interesting is how Disney won’t release Song of the South, but is releasing Peter Pan in a couple months. The song about “what makes the red man red” has got to be at LEAST as offensive to Native Americans as SOTS is to African Americans. I’ve got Peter Pan on VHS and I certainly shake my head when ever I see that part.

Then there’s the black crows in Dumbo… πŸ˜€

            Well… this is entirely true. πŸ˜€ I can’t remember how I found out… it’s been so long….

            I can’t believe I’ve been a member of ebay for 8 years. 😯

Quill… you COULD just open her up to offers here… post in the Fleamarket… “taking offers on Copper dragon…” and see what you get first…

Also… there’s no ebay or paypals fees that way either. πŸ˜€

Actually they’ve already censored a HUGE number of old Warner Bros shorts. Especially the WWII propaganda ones. The Loony Toons that most of us younger sorts saw growing up in the 80s were very pruned down from the original number available.

That seriously makes me physically ill…

just like on my Donald Duck DVDs.. the two huge volumes that Disney put out a year or so ago… there’s an introduction done by Leonard Maltin… “… now we have to remember the context in which these “gags” were animated… they were NEVER intended to offend anyone…” makes me SICK! SICK SICK! πŸ˜›

Ok… because I’m insane… here is the fully transcribed (as close as I can get it! there’s still some unintelligable mumbling in a few areas… I couldn’t catch it all…) “Completely Non-Offensive and Politically Correct Holiday” song… by Brad Paisley!

This is why I love this guy! Creative and full of surprises!

                CHORUS:
Well, it’s a Kung Pao Buckaroo Holiday
Whatever you do, watch what you say!
                If you’re easily offended, well that’s OK…
                It’s a Completely Non-Offensive, Politically Correct Holiday!

                BRAD:
We catch up with our three cowboys one cold December night, huddled around a campfire…

                JIMMY:
How β€˜bout we sing some Holiday Songs?

                BILL:
Yeah. Hey George you wanna lead us off?

                GEORGE:
Yeah I got one! β€œOh BLEEP-mas Tree, Oh BLEEP-mas Tree… How lovely are thy Branches!” Why am I getting Bleeped again?

                BRAD:
Haven’t you heard guys? You can’t say BLEEP-mas . You’ve gotta say Holiday.

                JIMMY:
                I can’t say Christmas?

                GEORGE:
                No you might offend somebody.

                BILL:
                Who is offended by BLEEP-mas?

                JIMMY:
You know… you might offend the BLEEPs and the BLEEPs… And the Atheists…

                GEORGE:
                WHAT?

                BILL:
It’s time to be politically correct.

                JIMMY:
I’ll lead us off.. β€œOn the first day of BLEEP-mas my true love sent to me…

                GEORGE:
Jimmy are you listenin’ You can’t say BLEEP-mas.

                JIMMY:
Why not? If you can say BLEEP on the last record. Why cant’ I say BLEEP-mas?

                GEORGE:
                I didn’t make the rules.

                BILL:
Hey listen guys, it’s not that difficult… all you gotta to do is change BLEEP-mas to Holiday. You know, instead of saying… β€œWhite BLEEP-mas,” say, β€œI’m dreaming of a BLEEP Holiday…” Why did I get bleeped?

                JIMMY:
                You’ve got to say… β€œCaucasian”

                BILL:
You mean I have to sing β€œI’m Dreaming of a Caucasian Holiday?

                JIMMY:
                Sure… that won’t offend anyone…

                CHORUS:
Well, it’s a Kung Pao Buckaroo Holiday
Whatever you do, watch what you say!
                If you’re easily offended, well that’s OK…
It’s a Completely Non- Offensive, Politically Correct Holiday!

                *simultaneous with the above chorus*

                JIMMY:
                This so Stupid!

                BILL:
                This is absolutely ridiculous!

                GEORGE:
Why do these people have to feel that way? How come they get offended so easily?

                JIMMY:
I’m just trying to come up with a song here…

                BRAD:
Let’s sing one together… Everybody ready? George?

                GEORGE:
                Ready!

                BRAD:
                Bill you ready?

                BILL:

                *silence*

                BRAD:
                Jimmy?

                BRAD:
                JIMMY!?

                JIMMY: (Chipmunks voice)
                OKAY!

                ALL:
We three Kings of BLEEP are… Baring gifts we’ve traveled real far…

                GEORGE:
                Woah, woah, woah…wait a minute?

                BRAD:
                Sorry boys… you’ve gotta say β€œAsia” now…

                GEORGE:
                What?

                BILL:
                Aww c’mon just try.

                JIMMY:
I’ve gotta get hyped up for this…

                ALL:
We three kings of Asia are….

                BILL:
                That sounds like Horse BLEEP!

                GEORGE:
Ok… how about Little Drummer Boy?

                JIMMY:
                Nope… that offends short people.

                BILL:
And you can’t say Drummer because that’ll offend real Musicians.

                JIMMY:
What’s with all the β€œshort” jokes?

                GEORGE:
Hey how about we do Silent Night?

                BILL:
Nope, that offends people hard of hearing, and afraid of the dark.

                GEORGE:
                This happens every year.

                CHORUS:
Well, it’s a Kung Pao Buckaroo Holiday
Whatever you do, watch what you say!

                JIMMY:

                GEORGE:

                BILL:
                Ho! Ho! Ho!

                GEORGE:
                No.

                BILL:
                What? I can’t say β€œHo?”

                GEORGE:
No, you might offend some… Women…

                JIMMY:
So basically… we can’t sing anything?

                GEORGE:
I think that’s a bunch of Bull BLEEP!

                BILL:
                Softer George. It’s more effective.

                GEORGE: *whispering*
I think that’s a bunch of Bull BLEEP!

                JIMMY:
Wait just a BLEEP minute. I’ve never been so BLEEPin BLEEP in my whole BLEEP life.

                BILL:
                Now wait a second…

                BILL:
I don’t care who we offend! I’m gonna sing BLEEP-mas carols if I wanna sing BLEEP-mas Carols!

                GEORGE:
                LOUDER Bill! It’s more effective!

                BILL:

                JIMMY:
                Me too!

                ALL:
We wish you a Merry BLEEP-mas. We wish you a Merry BLEEP-mas… and a Happy BLEEP New Year!

                JIMMY:
You can’t say New, it’ll offend the old folks.

                BILL:
And you’d better not offend them!

                JIMMY:
                Us!

                YEAH!

Add to that the song: “Penguin, James Penquin”… about Santa’s Secret Spy penguin! Makes perfect sense to me!

If you like cool… funny… unique Christmas music… I totally recommend this CD!

Well let’s just censor ALL of the old Warner Bros and Disney shorts!!! for the love of god!

If you are offended by a CARTOON that was produced 40+ years ago… then that’s your own bloody fault for not stepping away from it… and just enjoying the story and animation…

                          C’mon now!!!

As far as Song of the South goes… Disney is afraid. Period end. They don’t want to release it and have people sueing them or bad mouthing them for it’s release.

The WHOLE problem with it is that it’s a story set to the backdrop of slavery. that’s IT!

::Grumbles:: I could rant on this for hours.

What site did you find it at?? can you download it from teh web? or did you buy a DVD from it? If you bought a DVD… how did you watch it, since DVDs are produced for certain regions (ie I can’t buy a DVD released in England and watch it on my DVD player because my DVD player is setup to play US discs only…)???

My dad would LOVE that movie!!

Seriously… that is one of the saddest stories in hollywood. Song of the South (of course I haven’t see it in years. We had a bootlegged VHS copy that’s probably broken.. so I’m remembering from childhood) was a great movie. Very well done for the time it was made, and made to reflect… πŸ˜› And all it gets is flack because people are too thick to get past the Slavery thing. πŸ˜›

I’m allowed to obsess… It keeps me sane (if that makes any sense… 😯 ). I blame my father for bringing that book home to me. Seriously… it’s all sentimental… I still have the original Brighty (he’s the same one in all of the “Backpacking Brighty” pics.) He’s a good 13 yrs old… so scuffed up… but so loved. πŸ˜€

And hey… it makes me stand out in a crowd! My model horse friends are ALWAYS finding me donkeys. πŸ˜€

Ooooh… ::wonders if Melody would ever consider a winged donkey:: πŸ˜†

Ok… even though this isn’t one of my model horse forums… I just have to post… since I’m soooo excited!

                                  A bit of background information…

I collect Model horses.. have for years… Well, ever since my father brought home a copy of “Brighty of the Grand Canyon” when I was 12 or 13… I’ve had small obssession with that book and the character ever since.

Well… Breyer… makes a model of that character… You can see him here…

I have a “conga line” of that mold… in both Original Factory Finish (OF) and Customized (CM) versions. Here is a picture of my CM Brightys…

Anyway… on to the real story of this post! πŸ˜†

YEARS ago… I went to a craft fair in Prescott, AZ… I still remember seeing CERAMIC versions of this little donkey. I also remember wanting one REALLY badly… and my mother telling me… “no… you already have a Brighty… you don’t need a ceramic one…”

Now… years later. I WANT that Ceramic Brighty! I’ve moved on to collecting “knock offs” of this mold. I have a pewter, smaller resin version (http://i15.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/ba/9d/37_2.JPG) and even a cast COAL version of him!

But.. what I really want is that CERAMIC one…

Lo and behold I check my email today… and that SAME vendor from the craft fair found my ad for Knock Off Brightys on Model Horse Sales Pages!!! She said she had just recently found the mold… and was going to cast some more!!!

I just can’t BELIEVE that that same vendor found ME!!! I’m just hoping she’ll paint a couple of these Brightys up for me… and then give ME a few to play with and have Custom glazed! OMG I’m just so psyched!

(If you are REALLY curious as to how far my insanity goes for this donkey… check out this website I’m making for him…. http://www.freewebs.com/desertsunstudios/ Unfortunately SOME of it won’t work… the “history of Brighty” link I think is dead. πŸ˜› Yeah… maybe I’ll work on that site this weekend…)
