Oh I totally agree! Half of the gags that my fav character of all time… Donald Duck… did were offensive to native americans… african americans etc…
But I am of the opinion that it has gone too far… you just have to deal with it and not watch it… or just not take it as offensive…
If you do… you miss out on SOOO many good things… that should not be considered totally bad because of ONE racial gag. π
Arlla wrote:What I find really interesting is how Disney won’t release Song of the South, but is releasing Peter Pan in a couple months. The song about “what makes the red man red” has got to be at LEAST as offensive to Native Americans as SOTS is to African Americans. I’ve got Peter Pan on VHS and I certainly shake my head when ever I see that part.
Then there’s the black crows in Dumbo… π
π
Silly. ^.^

Well… this is entirely true. π I can’t remember how I found out… it’s been so long….
I can’t believe I’ve been a member of ebay for 8 years. π―
Quill… you COULD just open her up to offers here… post in the Fleamarket… “taking offers on Copper dragon…” and see what you get first…
Also… there’s no ebay or paypals fees that way either. π

Actually they’ve already censored a HUGE number of old Warner Bros shorts. Especially the WWII propaganda ones. The Loony Toons that most of us younger sorts saw growing up in the 80s were very pruned down from the original number available.
That seriously makes me physically ill…
just like on my Donald Duck DVDs.. the two huge volumes that Disney put out a year or so ago… there’s an introduction done by Leonard Maltin… “… now we have to remember the context in which these “gags” were animated… they were NEVER intended to offend anyone…” makes me SICK! SICK SICK! π

Add to that the song: “Penguin, James Penquin”… about Santa’s Secret Spy penguin! Makes perfect sense to me!
If you like cool… funny… unique Christmas music… I totally recommend this CD!
Ok… there you have it… π
skigod377 wrote:Seems like no matter what, someone is gonna be offended. (Hope that didnt offend anyone:)
There’s actually a song that Brad Paisley (a country singer… an AWESOME country singer) just put out on his Christmas CD… “The Completely Non-Offensive and Politically Correct Holiday”
It’s really funny… ^.^ Its three cowboys sitting around a fire… trying to sing Christmas Carols… but they keep getting bleeped on Christmas… and White… and Orient… etc. π
If anyone is interested… I transcribed the song on anotehr forum… I could post it here… π
Oh cool! thanks for the link! I might have to get one for my dad… he really wants that movie…
Agreed! If you don’t like it… don’t buy it… don’t listen to it… deal with it!
but still… kids should be taught about it… and allowed to ask questions… so they can figure it out for themselves! π

Right now I’ve discovered my checking account has gone into the negatives again because of my ex-boss’s check bouncing AGAIN… and I have no job yet… so I’m kinda stressed with looking. I wasn’t looking forward to going back to retail. π
Oh I feel your pain!!!
My last job was like that… except he’d FORGET to pay us… so here we were… thinking our direct deposit would be in on Friday… only to find at the end of the weekend that it was never posted because he bloody forgot! ::grumbles!:: UGH!
yeah… I agree with teh BIN… you’ll never know if you could get more…
What I do is put a reserve on the piece… and a BIN close to the reserve. That way… your BIN won’t disappear until the reserve is hit.
See… I see people with a 9.99 starting bid… and then a $150 BIN… as soon as someone bids $9.99… the BIN is gone because they didn’t put a reserve on it… so… what’s the point of paying the fee for the BIN then??? when it just goes away. π
I’d almost say shoot for $125 or so BIN… he’s gorgeous… and worth it… heck I wish I had the $$ to buy him and help ya out!!! π
But you might just want to let the bidding go… sounds like you have several people on the board alone who will bid on him! π
skigod377 wrote:Maybe after a few more generations it wont be such a sore subject.
See… even that… I don’t think that’s right…
Let’s just not talk about it… or watch movies and study it so we can better understand it… no let’s just scrap it from existance… not teach it in classrooms… and just pretend it didn’t exist…
Like I said… I could go on and on…
Because there HAS been talk of removing such… “offensive” lessons from schools… because god forbid we should teach our children something they (or rather their PARENTS) could be offended by… ::grumbles::
Oh for crying out loud!!! Speedy??? they are CENSORING SPEEDY????
Well let’s just censor ALL of the old Warner Bros and Disney shorts!!! for the love of god!
If you are offended by a CARTOON that was produced 40+ years ago… then that’s your own bloody fault for not stepping away from it… and just enjoying the story and animation…
C’mon now!!!
As far as Song of the South goes… Disney is afraid. Period end. They don’t want to release it and have people sueing them or bad mouthing them for it’s release.
The WHOLE problem with it is that it’s a story set to the backdrop of slavery. that’s IT!
::Grumbles:: I could rant on this for hours.
What site did you find it at?? can you download it from teh web? or did you buy a DVD from it? If you bought a DVD… how did you watch it, since DVDs are produced for certain regions (ie I can’t buy a DVD released in England and watch it on my DVD player because my DVD player is setup to play US discs only…)???
My dad would LOVE that movie!!
Seriously… that is one of the saddest stories in hollywood. Song of the South (of course I haven’t see it in years. We had a bootlegged VHS copy that’s probably broken.. so I’m remembering from childhood) was a great movie. Very well done for the time it was made, and made to reflect… π And all it gets is flack because people are too thick to get past the Slavery thing. π
mimitrek wrote:Wow, that’s fantastic! Its amazing that the artist found you after all this time.
I know! We’re talking 10+ years!!! The particular trip I’m remembering was way back in 1993 or so…
THAT is what is impressive…
Which picture wouldn’t load?
Odd…if it was the webshots one… now it’s not loading for me either… strange… it did earlier… π―
Of course. π
Actually… in that picture on Webshots… of the CM brightys… the first on in the foreground… the redish one… I painted. ^.^
I’m allowed to obsess… It keeps me sane (if that makes any sense… π― ). I blame my father for bringing that book home to me. Seriously… it’s all sentimental… I still have the original Brighty (he’s the same one in all of the “Backpacking Brighty” pics.) He’s a good 13 yrs old… so scuffed up… but so loved. π
And hey… it makes me stand out in a crowd! My model horse friends are ALWAYS finding me donkeys. π
Ooooh… ::wonders if Melody would ever consider a winged donkey:: π
Ok… even though this isn’t one of my model horse forums… I just have to post… since I’m soooo excited!
A bit of background information…
I collect Model horses.. have for years… Well, ever since my father brought home a copy of “Brighty of the Grand Canyon” when I was 12 or 13… I’ve had small obssession with that book and the character ever since.
Well… Breyer… makes a model of that character… You can see him here…
http://ponylagoon.muerte.net/photopages/brightypics.shtml
I have a “conga line” of that mold… in both Original Factory Finish (OF) and Customized (CM) versions. Here is a picture of my CM Brightys…

Anyway… on to the real story of this post! π
YEARS ago… I went to a craft fair in Prescott, AZ… I still remember seeing CERAMIC versions of this little donkey. I also remember wanting one REALLY badly… and my mother telling me… “no… you already have a Brighty… you don’t need a ceramic one…”
Now… years later. I WANT that Ceramic Brighty! I’ve moved on to collecting “knock offs” of this mold. I have a pewter, smaller resin version (http://i15.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/ba/9d/37_2.JPG) and even a cast COAL version of him!
But.. what I really want is that CERAMIC one…
Lo and behold I check my email today… and that SAME vendor from the craft fair found my ad for Knock Off Brightys on Model Horse Sales Pages!!! She said she had just recently found the mold… and was going to cast some more!!!
I just can’t BELIEVE that that same vendor found ME!!! I’m just hoping she’ll paint a couple of these Brightys up for me… and then give ME a few to play with and have Custom glazed! OMG I’m just so psyched!
(If you are REALLY curious as to how far my insanity goes for this donkey… check out this website I’m making for him…. http://www.freewebs.com/desertsunstudios/ Unfortunately SOME of it won’t work… the “history of Brighty” link I think is dead. π Yeah… maybe I’ll work on that site this weekend…)
