What I find really interesting is how Disney won’t release Song of the South, but is releasing Peter Pan in a couple months. The song about “what makes the red man red” has got to be at LEAST as offensive to Native Americans as SOTS is to African Americans. I’ve got Peter Pan on VHS and I certainly shake my head when ever I see that part.

But then again, Disney really ticks me off when it comes to Peter Pan and the way they’re messing with the copyrights owned by Great Ormond St. Hospital…As I understand it, they’re pretty much stealing money from orphans. Way to go, Disney. Course the way I understand it, Disney also earns a lot of money from their chunk of the porn industry. Not very child oriented at the core!!

Then there’s the black crows in Dumbo… ๐Ÿ˜€

Dude, you might make light of it, but Disney has done some mighty offensive things! The problem is, back when they were done, they were socially acceptable by the majority. They’re looked at in a slightly different light now…
Though I have to say, I am for releasing everything. And I alwasy did think the black crows in Dumbo were pretty hip! ;P
I just watched Dumbo recently when it came out of DVD after not having watched it in years – that movie is SAAAD!!!!! ;_; I can’t believe I didn’t break down crying watching that as a kid.

Oh I totally agree! Half of the gags that my fav character of all time… Donald Duck… did were offensive to native americans… african americans etc…

But I am of the opinion that it has gone too far… you just have to deal with it and not watch it… or just not take it as offensive…

If you do… you miss out on SOOO many good things… that should not be considered totally bad because of ONE racial gag. ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyone watch Whose Line is It? They were doing a skit of TV theme songs about weird roommates and someone suggested Bill Cosby and Hitler – and the censor wouldn’t let them do Hitler! He should have – for the rest of the show they guys slipped it in. It was hysterical! Never piss off a comedian.

Back to Disney – they changed lyrics in the opening song of Aladdin – something about cutting off the hand of a thief.

I LOVE Who’s Line Is It. It’s finally gone to far. You can not breath anymore without offending someone

I don’t know if I can really take a solid position on this…I’m full of mixed feelings…I agree that political correctness is very often over the top and pretty silly. But at the same time, as part of a minority myself and as someone who has run into being made fun of or stereotyped, etc. on socially accepted media, I do understand that feeling too…it’s like being made fun of on the playground and having the recess ladies turn their heads. It just gives you a very basic sense of hurt and injustice.
There are an awful lot of people who get offended for the sake of being offended though…and that sort of ruins things for the rest of us too…

White folks are steroetyped, too. Why dont they ban “White Men Cant Jump?” I find that OFFENSIVE! (No, I dont) How about “Save the Last Dance?” So now white girls cant dance without help? Oh, wait… we have no rythm! (Yes, we do. Well…I do) Crash was not banned. I think erasing history is a mistake. We dont have to continue to do it, but to cut items out of our kids movies (From when we were growing up) is just silly. How will we remember what things were like back then if we dont have cartoons? (Cuz you know most of us dont pay attention in History class.)

I think the reason that SOTS was not released but Gone With The Wind is OK, is because it is Disney. I mean they are a huge corp, and people are looking to sue any one for anything. “My little Darwin called an African American a tarbaby, that is Disneys fault lets sue them”. Win or loose it looks bad, better to avoid that situation. No one wants to take responsability for anything anymore, they want to pass the buck, and if you can make a buck all the better. It is sad, I do agree, I also watched the smoking Tom and Jerry, I do not smoke either. Same thing with the cookie monster being the cause of obese children, that has absolutely nothing to do with parents not saying no, one cookie is enough.

By useing “politicaly correct” as a cop out they are covering their colective butts, I can’s say I belame them. If the reason was really to be politcaly correct why would the release in some countries, not others? Do black people in europe not get offended?

And seriously the line “a black sherrif” in Men in Tights didnt offend anyone either?

And who exactly were the censors protecting by not allowing hitler? Who were they affraid to offend by makeing fun of hitler? I just dont get that.
