can’t wait to see what this one is since it’s my birthday month π Plus i haven’t entered one in a while it seems
It’s my birthday month too π
Looking forward to seeing what comes up!Western Canada Here π There are maybe 3months of the year that I can spray outside according to the instructions on a can, so I mostly use brush on clear coats. My current one is a waterbased Varathane in either satin or gloss. I do 2-3thin coats and have never had a problem with streaking, I always seem to get drips/runs when I spray. If I really HAVE to spray something and it’s stupid cold outside I will get everything ready inside and then duck outside, spray and pop back in. I then let it dry in my basement. The only problem is that there is still a smell associated with it but it doesn’t seem to be as bad as if I had sprayed inside.
For pigments, I have brushed them on (advice from the art store I purchased them at – wear a mask when using the pigment powders) have also used a q-tip to apply them on larger areas or if I want a streaky-swirly effect (did for a night sky effect on black). But generally I cheat and mix them with a couple of drops of the clearcoat I’m going to use and then apply. If i have brushed on the powders, I find I have to to the first clearcoat as a spray so the powder stays where i want it, but then do the remaining coats with the brush on.

(makes 3 dozen)3/4 Cup strained, cold bacon fat
1 Cup sugar, plus extra for rolling cookies in
4 Tablespoons dark molasses
1 large egg
2 Cups all purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamonHeat oven to 350 degrees F. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream together bacon fat and sugar. Beat in Molasses and egg. Add remaining ingredients and combine thoroughly.
Shape dough into walnut-sized balls, roll in sugar and flatten with fingers on ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until cookies are golden brown and cracked on top. Let cool on wire racks or clean kitchen towel. Store in an airtight container.
We usually make these just at Christmas time because of how long it takes to save the bacon fat. If anyone makes these please send me some π³

Wow, these sound good. The bacon fat is an interesting twist. I wonder if it’s a replacement for butter? Me thinks I forsee a week or two of BLTs in my future π

Generally Gingerbread is made with molasses, but I’ve heard of a couple of recipes that use honey instead. The Gingerbread is softer (and stays that way longer), lighter in color and a bit sweeter than the traditional.
So it’s going to suck for Gingerbread house making I bet. Well I’ll see. π
Should be okay for house building, as long as you let it cool propperly and as careful and paitient with it π If you need a good traditional gingerbread recipe, drop me a note. Mines from England and over 100 years old. And I may have to ask for your Honey Gingerbread Recipe….

My Windstones π My parents have gotten me a few over the years. I don’t get them as much anymore since there is only one retail store here that carries them and it’s at the other end of the city. And it was easier to buy for me when I didn’t have so many π³
Books. Can always give me books πGrowning up, probably the best present (that I remember π ) was the year I got the Transformer Red Alert from some friends of the family. The three oldest kids all got Transformers but I was ecstatic because I was always told girls weren’t supposed to like Transformers. Had to zealously guard him over the years, but still have him 8) .
Mmmmmmmm those cupcakes look good…. :yum: :yum: :yum:
I love baking but don’t get to do it very often (have to negotiate with roomies to do so and then beat them off the finished product). I do most of mine around the holidays. I have great pumpkin muffin recipe (from Mum) and this thanksgiving I unearthed my great aunts chocolate beet cake recipe :yum: Have asked what the family wants for christmas baking so I can start planning and am wanting to try a red velvet cake this year. Would love to try your chocolate Guiness recipe!
I was addicted to ketchup chips when I was young. Still like them from time to time.
Biggest discovery at the grocery store a while ago…Ketchup flavored rice cakes!!! Woohoo!!! XD XD XDThings I miss from England… Ginger beer, Irnbru, cadbury flake and fruit pastilles :yum:
I don’t miss Vegimite or Marmite :puke:I had to look it up… π³

Yeah I know Edmonton is technically Central Alberta, but you’re still way north of me π
Calgary is Southern, Red Deer is Central and Edmonton is Northern, Beyond that is the Arctic Tundra π π πHappy Thanksgiving to our American Friends! π π π
Yay! Snow! π
We’ve gotten about 5 inches in the last week. Maybe it will stick around and we will get a white christmas this year π
And Yay it looks like we’re climbing (slowly) out of the deep freeze. No more -20 degree (-35 with wind chill) dog walks XD -
