It looks like they showed up about 5 minutes after I turned off my computer for the night (sigh). I notice that the order of the unicorns has changed with Baby Unicorns (Silver and Slate) and Male Unicorns (Silver and Slate) coming before the mothers. Have I also missed baby and male unicorns, or were things simply rearranged?

At what point are ‘special’ pieces less special and devalued because there are so many?

        Well, Windstone DEFINITELY cares.
Unfortunately we do have to make a living, so we have to try keeping things in high demand.

Oh I never meant to imply that Windstone does not care. By anyone I meant the collectors that buy these! I know that you guys do care! And I know all about having to make a living.. trust me.
Hopefully casting can be resolved sometime.. soonish, so that you guys can make regular production pieces… well.. regularly! And won’t need to depend on special pieces so much.

I was just asking the collectors, is all.

Is casting still a problem? I read an earlier thread about how the problem is not the water, and is not the supplier, and then I thought the casting problems were resolved, or at least better. If the problem is continuing, could it be mechanical? Maybe a new mixer that is a bit faster – or “controller creep” on an old mixer. Tiny air bubbles in the sculpts (which I gathered is the problem) sounds like air being incorporated during mixing to me. 😕

For what it’s worth, there are no Ruby Coiled or Curled dragons on the Windstone list of Retired Pieces (Windstone Home – Website & Dealer Catalog – Retired Pieces is under Collectors Information).

It might even give people a chance to get a special piece without paying a ton of money. Lots of us can’t afford the ebay prices, so maybe this could get us a chance 🙂

I like the idea of grab bags, but I just have a hunch that they’ll go for insane amounts on ebay putting them out of reach of most of us. I just look lovingly at the ebay pieces, sigh, and close the window. It’s great for Windstone to get such big money, but I’d really like to see some special stuff that those of us who can’t afford regular ebay pieces and aren’t lucky enough to win drawings can get our hands on. Why does someone have to have a ton of disposable cash to get special stuff? Maybe put these lots in the store one per customer?

As far as differentiating them from the rest of the specials, couldn’t the felt pads or pieces be marked in some way so that if they do switch hands collectors would still know where they came from?

I suspect you are right that the “grab bags” would bring high prices on ebay. I am also dubious about putting the seconds in the store, even one per customer, because these days things appear so randomly. If the problems of identifying them as seconds were solved, perhaps there could be some sort of “Saturday Night Special” arrangement (assuming the website could handle it). If everybody knew that 30 “seconds” Windstones would be put up at 6 pm Pacific Time on Saturday nights – one per customer, first come first served – there would still be angst. However, it wouldn’t be “Darn, they came and went before I even knew they were in the store”.

Or, the days could be random (to accommodate different work schedules) and an announcement put on the Forum three days in advance. That would cut down on website traffic and reward loyal Forum members. 😀 Or you could have “Dumpster Day” once a year. There are lots of possibilities!

Very pretty dragon. Maybe you could call her “Graffiti”. 🙂

Susie announced them on July 22, something like “Copper Patina available in Teal” in the Windstone Store section. It looks like there are some Baby Orientals in stock at the moment.

Then there is the question of a Hatching Griffin … (sorry) 😳 I intended to do a baby dragon for the “family” and never did. I am doing one now. The fledgling isn’t really in scale with the family, he ( and the “Hatching Royalty” dragons ) were actually intended to be the Secret Keeper’s babies.

Thank you for taking the time to explain all this. I am also glad to know how the Hatching Pegasus fits into the Pegasus Family, as explained in your earlier post. Collecting families, or creating “families” out of different elements, seems to be important to a lot of people. I guess I’m one of them – I collected “families” as a child, and I’m doing it again now! 🙂

I have been reading the “Hatching Dragon” thread with great interest and I was wondering – am I the only one who is bothered by or dislikes the idea of the Hatching Pegasus? For one thing, it looks out of scale with the Mother Pegasus, which bothers me WAY more than it should. Also (if you will forgive me), Pegasi hatching from eggs would probably be biologically inaccurate. 😕

I don’t know how complicated it is to produce and paint, but it is more expensive than the Baby Pegasus. If we could have more Pegasus colors, more often, by eliminating the Hatching, I would be OK with having it discontinued. On the other hand, it may be everybody else’s favorite Pegasus, or easy to produce, or a big seller, or something. Just curious.

If you want one in Copper Patina, there are four Baby Orientals in the store – or there were five minutes ago. 🙂

I was taken aback when I saw the photos, because I have mint [the plant] about that color and I thought “I can see describing that dragon as Mint … (with a LOT of warnings about condition)”. Presumably your seller is experienced enough to know how to describe items properly (if he wants to), and your thread does not read like a cross-talk situation – one person saying “Yes, the dragon IS Mint [Green] as I described it”, and the other person saying “No, it definitely is NOT Mint [condition]”.
The dragon certainly is beautiful, even damaged. I’m sure you can find somebody to fix him, or give him a good home, whichever you decide you want!

The Muse just helped me decide to order a dragonsnail. 🙂 They are lovely both in the Muse photos and on purplecat’s website! I suppose it is another example of Windstones leading someone (and her bank account) astray.
