    Yeah, mine charges $39! Outrageous!!

in reply to: "I Just Bought A–" Celebration thread, v.4 #753731

Yabbadabbadoo!!! Hot diggety damn!!! I went to the store closing mentions in another thread and I got 3! 3! 3! new display cabinets!! Now I have a place for my pore ol’ homeless Windstones that are sitting all over the place, the floor, the file cabinet, the tables, ledges, and getting dusty and occasionally chipped! The ones in the cabinets now are sitting all over each other and complaining loudly about the accomodations and starting fights when SOMEBODY has to sit on a claw or a paw because there is no room! They will be so happy to have some breathing room and stretch space!! It will be a lot quieter around here without all the yammering about how someone crowded them or couldn’t control their kids or had NO manners at ALL!!! and they are sure they made a mistake, there must a better place on the other side of the fence where they heard the grass was greener!!! (They heard that from the cows in California!!) So they are all excited about the new rooms and claiming dibs and wanting to know who is going to go where and why aren’t they here already and gossiping about the new neighbors who shouldn’t have priority because “last come, last served” after all! Whew! I will certainly be glad when they are here too! Maybe I can get some work done!! 😀
I’m very excited, can you tell? I also bought a white young unicorn, a Swarovski crystal globe, and a small statue of a lab dog for a friend who has a live one just like it, and a small owl who looks like he is going to fly right off his perch! I just got the “dark dun” male grand unicorn and he is BEYOOTIFUL!!! I have to get my camera out of the shop and learn how to post pictures. Anyway, Hooray!!

Also thank you so much BDW, for the posting!! I didn’t mean to leave you out of the thanks!!! I had a great time just poking around in the store and talking to the proprietors (for about 2 1/2 hours!) and finding new things to look at! On one hand, I wish they were closer, on the other hand, for the sake of my poor purse, I’m glad they aren’t! 😀 )!!

Well, I drove down to the store last Saturday and I got very excited!! The proprietors were really nice and they are retiring so they can travel after 30 years in the store and just sell online from now on. The store was amazing! Very high quality pieces, and I bought a young unicorn for $24! They had only one Windstone left, a blue small wizard. They had Hummels, Swarovski crystal pieces, even Lalique! There was a Coke cabinet, too and other well-known name brands I don’t remember. There are about 20 or more display cabinets for 1/2 off and they are Beautiful!!! They all have lights, locks, heavy glass shelves, each one has 4-5 shelves, they have the right sizes, even miniature ones. They have one cabinet with a lot of dogs, cats, owls, etc. There was one with a lifesized tortoise with a hare sleeping next to him! The dogs were modeled after the “best of show” dogs, they were so lifelike! I bought a black lab for a friend who has a live one, and an owl for me that looks like he is going to fly off his perch! There were 2 dobermans, one with his ears up and one with the ears down. Bulldogs, poodles, golden retrievers, and more, all kinds of cats. I also got a Swarkovski crystal globe in blue crystal with the continents on it in clear crystal. It was a year 2000 commemorative, so pretty I couldn’t leave it there, no matter how much I tried to talk myself out of it!! AND!!! TADAH!!! I got 3 new display cabinets!!! One is a slightly smaller one, with lights along the sides as well as the top, with the thick shelves, lock, lights, glass door and sides. The second one is bigger, needs another shelf because they had a big doll in it, and the third one is just beautiful! It has a beveled glass door, glass sides, heavy shelves, lights, lock, and a frame of some dark wood, like mahogany maybe and a carved top. She had 4 of them (!) and 2 more that were similiar with a slightly different design. If I could have afforded it, and I had room, I would have bought them all in a heartbeat!!! All the cabinets are in excellent shape and excellent quality and 1/2 off and she is willing to bargain at this late date, because the shop is closing around the 25th or so. Other stuff was generally 1/2 off but there were some pieces that were 70% off too. Oh, every cabinet also has wheels. (Am I excited? You think? XD 😀) Luckily my granddaughter just bought a Silverado truck, so she, two friends, and I are going down again (It’s a four hour drive one way from here for me) on the 13th to get them. I feel like I hit the lottery!

So if anyone is in the area of San Jose/Milpitas/MountainView California, this is the time to get some really good strong display cabinets of excellent quality and good prices, and good quality collectibles. I think the problem before is that the proprietors are Asian and he particularly doesn’t speak very good English, but she does, so she is the one to talk to. She also makes the deals and “consults” with him, but he goes along with it. If they get a big order, like the emperor, they will ship “if you talk nicely to them” and offer to pay the shipping “and a little bit extra for the trouble”. I talked to her this morning and she said they were very busy, so I don’t know what will be left.
Anyway, the number is 1-800-710-5578 and her name is Helen.
So thank you eversomuch, maplecarver, that was worth it! 😀 😀

Oh, I got one!!! I didn’t think I would because I didn’t see the announcement until I saw this thread and hadn’t checked in all day, so I thought I had missed them again, and I didn’t!! I’m soooo glad!!! 😀 😆

How about “Do not place ladder in wagon before climbing” (“I just wanted to get a little higher, why not?” Ellen Degeneres does a very funny bit on directions on a shampoo bottle. But I know the manufactures of the ladders actually got sued because they didn’t warn (stupid) people not to put ladders in wagons!!!Another one was “Do not use gardening shears to cut electrical wires while wires are in use” Sheesh! Where do these people come from?

Three nuns were walking along a path in the woods and they see a man in front of them wearing a long overcoat. As they approach, he doesn’t move and when they are close enough, he opens his coat and he has nothing on underneath. As he “flashes” them, two of the nuns have a stroke. The third one can’t reach.

in reply to: Faded Red Fire Scratcher #766194

That would be pretty hard on a rainbow or other color that had a strong red base, like a BVP or the peacocks. Some color would fade and others would not. It IS an interestinf color, but fading is rarely even, so it would probably turn splotchy on a dragon with mulitple colors. I’m going to leave the colors to Windstone!!!

in reply to: Help!!! Anyone want boxes, packing peanuts? #765136

Yes, I did and I’m sorry I haven’t replied to the PM’s or the posts. I am working on sorting, packing, measuring, weighing, getting shipping charges, getting clarification on some of the requests, labeling, addresses, etc. I also work fulltime, so I can’t work on the project as much as I would like to. I’m very anxious to finish this, so my granddaughter and her B/F have come up twice from Placerville( about 2 1/2 hours away) to help me with this. (she is saving up for a truck, so she is willing to help) They are coming up on the Memorial Day weekend again, so I hope we can finish this, which we might be able to do most of it. As soon as I get a little further along, I will post a status report. I haven’t forgotton about you! 🙂 Margaret

in reply to: Help!!! Anyone want boxes, packing peanuts? #765130

    Hi, everyone!
I’m working on 8 lists at present to get these out to you. There are a couple of things I want to say. I have 153 boxes that are available. Most of the small items came in boxes that weren’t preformed, they were just put in bags, wrapped in paper, then put in bigger boxes and packing peanuts and sent. Some of them varied a little in size, like the royal hatchers, but almost all of the boxes are interchangable, like Large Black Cat and Large White Cat. I can’t promise that the exact label will be on the box, but you can always change the label. The preformed ones will have the right form, but most probably not the exact label. For instance, the boxes for the males may have different names on them than the ones for your exact sculpt, but the forms will be the right ones.
Also, I have a lot of other boxes that weren’t asked for that could be used for whatever you are packing. They are still good sturdy boxes that might need a little extra stuffing when you pack it. I will list the ones I have left when I’m through with the part I’m working on now. I will pm you for zips when I get them packed up. I work full time, so it may take me a little while.
    Have a great week! drgnlvr

in reply to: Help!!! Anyone want boxes, packing peanuts? #765126

WOW! I got 18 responses in less than 24 hours! Well, my awesome granddaughter and her B/F came in from out of town to help me with this project ( I always have a project!) and we took all the boxes out of the “box room” and labeled them and listed them and sorted them. It took AGD (awesome grand daughter) and me 4 hours to do all that! (Her B/F vacuumed and shampooed the rugs and hung the owl sconce and moved all the furniture in the meantime!) I had over 175 boxes altogether and 148 have the formed inserts or are too little to need them.
Now. When I first started collecting, I was dumping all the boxes and cutting off the tags. 😮 😳 until I started talking to you all on the forum. Then I decided I better not do that, so I just threw them into the “box room”. Then I got some help and stacked them neatly. So the collection isn’t as complete as It coulda/shoulda been. So some I have more of than others.
I may not have the exact box the sculpt came in, but the smaller boxes can be interchanged with another one of the same kind and size. There are more requests for certain dragons than others, some people have big lists, others not so many. I will figure out a way to be as equitable as I can be and pm each of you. Some of the boxes are pretty specialized, like the stone cottage candlelamp or the wolf sconce. I will need some time to sort it all out and the kids (in their 20’s!) are coming back this week to help me finish the project. If there are more than one, I can pack them in bigger boxes, especially the littler ones. Thanks for the suggestions about the packing peanuts! I was going to send a HUGE bag of them that I had made ( the bag, not the peanuts!) out of parachute material that was light and VERY strong. The bag was about 5ft tall and as big around as I could reach. I took it to the PO and the price was completely out of the question, so I took it to fedex and got a much more reasonable doable price. So it’s not out of the question to ship them if you want them. It depends how far too, this was only in Southern California.
Anyway, I appreciate the help with this from everyone and I will work on this tomorrow.

What a beautiful dog!! He looks like my dad’s Doberman that he just loved so much! When dad couldn’t take care of him anymore,(Dad had Alzheimers and died in 2004) I bought him a big stuffed Doberman toy dog that he could play with and talk to until he left. The dog had been “stolen” in a gas station while Dad was using the restroom and the amazing thing was, 2 years later, he was in the same station and happened to mention his missing dog, and the attendent said he knew where the dog was, so Dad went to the house, and the dog came rushing up to him all excited to see him even after 2 years! The owners said they had found him on the side of the road and had taken him home for their little kids. The owners saw how the dog responded to Dad and had to admit that it was the dog that had been Dad’s. But Dad saw how well the family had cared for him and the little kids loved him so much, he just gave the dog to the family who were so grateful to him for not taking the dog away from their kids, it was ok with Dad. That’s one of my favorite memories of my Dad.
I really hope your Doberman doggie gets well and continues to bring joy to you!!

I have a whole roomful of Windstone boxes that go from floor to ceiling and 3 deep, and 15 huge bags of packing peanuts. I have to get rid of them so I can use the space. They are the formed boxes that Windstone sends the pieces in and the packing peanuts are from there also. I hate throwing out either of these because I know how expensive the PP are ($28 for a little bag of PP in Staples!) and that the boxes are highly prized by us to move the Windstones around the “areas of Windstone influence!” So if anyone wants a Windstone box, and is willing to pay for the shipping, they can have the box(es) for free. I need to get rid of them very soon, maybe I can delay the dumping until next weekend, but if anyone wants one, please let me know asap so I can reserve it from the destruction. Same with the peanuts. I’m in California, so you can calculate shipping costs from 95928 to wherever you are for an empty box and see if it is worth it to you. I can even load the box with packing peanuts which would barely affect the cost of the shipping.
I really don’t want to destroy good boxes but I’m desperate!!

I was in Egypt and I LOVED it! Out of all the countries I’ve been in, Egypt was my favorite! The people are wonderful and very proAmerican, unlike some folks!
Do you speak Arabic? Have you been there before? What city will you be in? What are you majoring in?

in reply to: WOW!!! OVER 100!!! #764123

I don’t know, I haven’t reached that yet! Someone told me I should join DA (Dragons Anonymous) but I said I couldn’t, I am still in denial! XD! Just when I think, ok, no more, the factory comes up with some new beauty or interesting something or ebay posts something and sends me off in another direction and the resolution goes out the window! For instance, I was never really interested in the wizards. But I found 2 in a store that hardly carries any of them and got hooked, they were the woodlore wizard and the large blue. Now I have them all except the really rare ones. (That’s 13 of them!) Same thing with the orientals. A forum member sold me just one and now I have 13 suns, 5 babies, and 3 regular production ones. They just grow on you. Same with the griffins and kitties. I got some when I was collecting the colors, so I have all the empeas, rainbows, rubies, and redfires. Some I have a few of because they just didn’t “grab me” like I have only one poad. Some were just for having one, like the bear, armadillo, turtle, flion, sconces, etc. I went on an owl kick, first with just one, now 8. I didn’t like the youngs much, but when I paired them with matching hatchings, I like them much better.
So I guess what I like changes so the method and what I’m looking for changes too. But I started out with 1 family of kirins and a peacock male, then stopped for almost 20 years and then started up again about 2 years ago and haven’t stopped again.
So I guess in answer to your question, it hasn’t happened so far to me!!! 😀 There is always a beautiful Windstone to want!! (I’m still crowing about finally getting the small emerald wizard I’ve been waiting for for over a year! That’s one of the thrilling parts of collecting! That and the beauty of the collection and connecting with other collectors of like mind. It’s just fun!!! 😆
