Congrats everyone on their recent finds of retired pieces. I just got the shipment notification of my Black Griffin. Squee! Shipped out USPS priority mail (with insurance) from Texas to Georgia. It says it should take 2-3 days. That means he could be here by Saturday!
Wonderful! He’s a very handsome piece. (And think of it, he might someday have a Mrs. and kids!) Congratulations! Isn’t finding retired stuff fun? 😀
And thanks, GB and siberakh1! 🙂
Talk about surprises . . . I walked into a shop today and found something I never thought I’d see sitting on a store shelf again: a Black Young Unicorn! He’s got a few small rubs, but I bought him anyway. Whee! He’s so cute! 😀 I love the big dark eyes and the mealy muzzle on those guys. It makes them look so earnest: “No, really, I want to be part of your collection. Honest!”
I called them just now, and they said that they still have the Peacock Emperor. They are willing to ship to Japan. I’ll PM you regarding contact information. 🙂
Oh WOW! That Spectral! He looks like a gorgeous big jewel sitting there. I am experiencing serious droolage. And your mother dragon is just as cute as can be . . . and I don’t even go for pink, normally. I think it’s the shadings of peach and lavender that really do her proud. She’s lovely.
But the Spectral has got the blue ribbon, hands down. Oh my. Do you ever repeat paint jobs? I don’t know how you feel about that . . . or how dcc_1961 would feel. I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes here. 😕

We will begin painting some Em. Pea. Old warriors nest week.
Black griffins with sunset wings,production
Autumn leafs..for ?
The remainder of our Oriental Sun dragons in some fancy color.
Black Violet Pea. Prototype Old Warriors
The unicorn family in some other colorsOh boy oh boy oh boy . . . I’d attempt a backflip for any of these. I would love to know, though: are the Coiled dragons going to be both the male and the female? Because if they are, I will be all over that coiled mama dragon the minute she hits the stores, if not sooner. I adore that sculpt!
The rest of the above are definitely on my wanna-wanna list and I’m so glad that they’re not all coming out at once. I’d probably choke for excitement. 🙂 But if I had to decide what to buy first–after a coiled mama–it would be tan griffins and Poads! 😀 Thank you so much for giving us such wonderful things to look forward to!
My credit card is very angry with me–I made it work yesterday. Every time I open my wallet I hear a little squeaky voice shouting, “Don’t even think about it!” 😛
Found some retired pieces at a little shop in Sacramento yesterday. The store’s name is Garden of Enchantment; their phone number is (916) 446-7950. They’re open daily; hours seem to be from about 10:30AM to 9PM PST (Daylight Savings). Here’s what they have:
Wizard Woodlore, $75
Wizard’s Retreat candlelamp, $80 (has some chips on its roof, 5 to 10mm square)
Sea Jewel, $84 (yes, her bosoms are on straight 😛 )
Young Dragon in peacock, $58
Emperor Dragon in peacock, $250
Girl cherub, $36
Hatching Gargoyle, $28
Egg with claws, X2, didn’t get price
Small peacock wizard, X2, didn’t get priceEdit: I may have an extra Rainbow Male. I bought the one the store had yesterday for $120, but there should be another on the way, and I could sell one if somebody wanted him. If not, heck, I’ll keep them both. 😀
They also had a damaged Emerald Lap dragon; her description is in purplecat’s thread, since she was looking for these.
Now for the unfun stuff: They don’t keep the boxes (grr), and some of their stock has got chips. I tried to inspect everything they had, but I didn’t get a good look at the eggs, the peacock wizards, or the Emperor. (The displays are super crammed. I hadn’t thought of Windstones as being all that fragile, but either they really are, or people have been slinging stuff back onto the shelves at high speed and letting it bounce right off whatever’s in its path.) Regarding shipping: the shopkeeper did say that he would be happy to ship things double-boxed with lots of packing material, by UPS or Fed-Ex. I think it’s pretty much a case of buyer beware. I know I caught the obvious stuff, but there was a lot to look at and there’s always a chance I might have missed something, or that a piece might collect a ding today. 🙁purpledoggy wrote:Did they have any emerald old warriors?
No–sorry. That would have been really cool, but I asked if there was anything else hiding in the back, and the only thing they brought up was the damaged Lap. I’m going to get going on the list of what they do have–new thread soon.
I ran across a damaged Emerald Lap Dragon yesterday. She has a nasty nick broken out of her left wing: it’s triangular, 5 or 6mm deep at its deepest point, and about 12mm wide. It’d need a re-sculpt. I believe she has a couple of smaller dings as well, much less serious. There is no original box (aargh). The shop is asking $120 for her, and they swore up and down that they would pack carefully, double-box, and ship via UPS or Fed-Ex.
The same store had some other retired pieces; I’m going to post a thread on that shortly (Flea Market? General? Wherever Nambroth put her found-it post). Given the boxes they sent my stuff home in, I do worry about their definition of “careful packing.” But since this was a lap, it’s definitely damaged (but fixable), and you said you were looking, I wanted to post about her here. The store is Garden of Enchantment, in Sacramento. Their phone number is (916) 446- 7950. They’re open daily from about 10:30AM to 9PM, PST/Daylight Savings.Glad to oblige and good luck with the rest! I’ll let you know if I run across any dealers that still have them. 🙂
Cool by me! I actually prefer the lighter green Orientals over the dark jade. (Which is probably just as well, considering the jades are rare.) I sure hope they get here OK!
Oh yeah . . . I’m a doofus, of course they do. 😳 Well, I’m glad to hear it. I have some PYOs waiting for me to get up the nerve to try painting them. I’ve been planning to work with brushes, since that’s what I’ve got–hence the sudden attack by the Whatifs. The crafts room is almost set up again; I can actually start planning a PYO! 😀
For what it’s worth, I’m another who’d love to see the larger dragon as a PYO and the wolf as a production piece. The thought of a big dragon to paint is very tempting. 🙂 And given the number of wolf fans out there, it seems as if having a nice production wolf would be a great way to attract another interest group to Windstones. Besides, the wolf would look spectacular painted by the factory (and like a bad case of sarcoptic mange if I tried it!) 😛
That’s something I’d been meaning to ask the more experienced painters: can you use brushes to paint something that has a hair-textured coat, or is it just a nightmare? It seems as if the paint would glob up in the grooves of the hair and refuse to stick to the high areas. I’d imagine that an airbrush would eliminate some of this problem. But I’m not familiar with airbrushes. 😕
Waugh! She’s fabulous! I like her even better than the Ember griffin. 😀 Deep red and copper–drool–with just enough purple to set them off. Whoo. It’s probably just as well that she’s spoken for . . . I would have a very difficult time passing her up if she were on eBay. Is she OOAK?
