- Stan LeeThank you for all the good advice! I did tip the longer feathers black, and decided to do a bit of embellishing with my dotting tools on some of the ruff feathers. It’s looking better now. Nothing as masterful as some PYOs I’ve seen, but closer to “good enough for me!” Just clear coated the piece and am getting ready to antique it. I’ve never tried doing light areas in one shade and dark areas in another… hope it works out! Thanks for the input!

- Stan LeeGlad you posted this – I’m looking for something autumnal for my fall colored KD to hold. Right now, he’s got one of my earrings – a Japanese Maple leaf dipped in coppery alloy – but he can’t keep it! 🙂

- Stan LeeTohickon makes a lovely reddish brown. 🙂 If you are ordering from Windstone, you would have to pick either the light brown or light red… depending on which direction you want to go.
I was goIng to suggest Tohickonglasseyes stippled hazel color, but reddish brown is a better route probably. I like Tohickon’s eyes =) some lovely shades
Thanks, folks – I’ll take a look at them! 🙂

Take your time! That was the best advice I got… take your time, and LET THE PAINT DRY TOTALLY between coats! That’s hard for me, since I’m a rusher. 🙂 And I was hideously nervous and intimidated before I got Savannah started… so many gorgeous PYOs online, and I didn’t want to blow it!
My own best advice?
1. Pick a very limited range of colors to start with (that’s why I started with a cheetah pattern, besides the fact that I love them… three colors of paint, and I’d mix them to get varying shades).
2. Then pick a pattern or inspirational animal that you’re VERY familiar with or close to, so you have a good mental image to layer your paint onto.
3. Finally… know your strengths and play to them! I’d love to do a budgie-themed wolf, but I just don’t have the steady hand for the head detail; I’m better off sticking to cat fur patterns, since those I feel comfortable with and can get plenty of source photos to look at.
Go for it, and try not to let your nerves get the better of you! 🙂

Can’t wait to see you post it here… thank you!

I really appreciate them, and can’t wait to try another PYO – I’m torn between another winged wolf (I think I’d like to do a wild cat series in those) and a gryphon, since the dragons are out of stock. SO hoping for a PYO flap cat one of these days!!!

- Stan LeeThank you for the supportive words! I think I’ll keep the eyes – I do rather like them, and will try the blue another time. These will work well if I try the cheetah pattern, which might be a good start for me, as it would make the body much easier – one fairly even color. And even if I do go with a Meezer wolf, having non-blue eyes would accentuate the wolfness of her. 🙂
Will cross my fingers and hope – I think working slowly, layering with thin coats, will be the way to get the effect I want. I do hope the art center has thinner, though – I’ve never heard of it being used before, but then, with ceramics, perhaps it’s not as usual.
Maybe I’ll do a photo of each stage – I’ve a feeling that this will be a multi-Friday project! 🙂
