May 9, 2013 at 10:06 pm in reply to: Has Anybody Here Had to Deal (or know someone who has had to deal) With Irritable Bowl Syndrome (IBS)? #897191
For those of you who have problems with dairy, have you always been that way, or all of a sudden one day did it start making you sick? My family drinks a ton of milk (like probably about 4-5 gallons a week), but I would imagine that our bodies are used to it after all this time. Never let the lac operon shut down 😉
It’s that time of year again. T_T

This picture is me, eeevery summer. I swear I’m a cold weather critter! (I should have been born a siberian husky in the arctic haha.) And I also recommend the probiotics, I had IBS something horrible in 2011 and food poisoning and the probiotics really helped me recover! Get the strongest ones you can buy (like a 50 billion bacterial cultures probiotic if possible)! I hope you feel better soon! D:
My whine: I have been unemployed for eight months. EIGHT MONTHS. You know you’re poor when finding $10 makes you hysterically happy. But – I might have a job soon. Might. Maybe. Ack! I am so looking forwards to the day when I won’t have unemployment as a thing to complain about any more! I sound like a broken record in all my letters to my friends out in Vancouver haha: “So, nothing has changed, how are you?” XD
I’m sorry to hear about your employment woes Falcolf 🙁 Not having a job is scary. What’s your possible employment opportunity, if you don’t mind spoiling the surprise 😉
I am so tired of being sick. It’s only the beginning of day sick, but it feels like months have gone by. At this point I have to admit my only real whine is the anti-biotic I am taking, and the fact my body isn’t recovered from being ill, and with this stupid pill, it will only make the recovery time take longer. Because this stupid anti-biotic is making me sick in other ways, and so I am going to be dealing with the aftermath when I finish the bottle. I hate pills.
Edit: Whoops, I meant day six, not day sick. I am going to leave that though, it’s amusing.
XD When I read that I was like, wait, so is that the opposite of when you wake up feeling sick, then you get better over the course of the day, and then by night you’re feeling sick again?
I’m sorry you’re feeling so lousy. And I’m familiar with the sorts of problems antibiotics can cause. My only suggestions would be to eat a lot of yogurt and take a pro-biotic pill once you’re off the antibiotic to help replenish your supplies of proper gut flora.
Thank you I though I was just missing them. I have not done a quest before are they all different?
Yep, they’re all different. 🙂
So far we’ve had color design contests, scavenger hunts, guessing games, and other stuff that I’m forgetting.
I feel your pain. 🙁 It nearly hit 80 today, and last Friday it was snowing. That’s too much temperature change, WAY too fast.
Wow, that is nuts. Where do you live?
It was 84 in my dorm room yesterday. I’d have cried, but the tears would have evaporated and made it humid on top of everything else. 😛
It’s that time of year again. T_T

I’ve been gone for the last couple of quests, so here’s looking forward to entering 🙂
You all are Not going to believe this
This may be a first, Jinya. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone get their #1 pic straight out of the box. That’s so awesome! I’m really happy for you! Enjoy her!
I’d like to say that although we can agree and disagree about pricing, how much is “fair”, how much we can each personally afford, etc.. it is all personal opinion and I believe that, regardless of what opinion each individual customer has, it is beneficial to Windstone to know what we are thinking – even if they can’t cater to all of us!
That said, I don’t think anyone should be angry or rubbed the wrong way if someone else has a difference of opinion than them. Yes, these are collector items that are in no way something that one needs to get to survive. Yes, they are pieces of art that deserve the expense that Windstone deems for them.
I don’t think we should stop giving our opinions, even if they are unpopular, because they inform Windstone of the different views that their customer base has. They may do what they wish with this information, but I firmly believe that knowing is far better than not knowing.
I feel like people are getting a little emotionally charged about these differences of opinion and I really wish it wasn’t so. Yeah, in a perfect world everything Windstone makes will be priced for my pocketbook, but realistically I understand that they will price things the way that they must in order to run their business. It will stink if I can’t afford to get something I want, but that’s life and I will get over it.
I am begging people here to remember that we are all entitled to think different things. You may not like what I have to say, and I may not like what you do – but can’t we just agree to disagree? I hate to see people getting angry about something that is ultimately out of ALL of our hands.
We all got here because we have at least one thing in common – we love Melody’s work!! I got my answer for the original question in this thread and I hope that we can just move on to that thing we have in common, and celebrate her amazing art.
Amen, Hannah.
The inability of people to recognize that others will and do have different opinions, and being ok with it, is the cause of a great amount of strife in the world. Even if we don’t feel the same way, your way is just as valid as mine, and that’s ok. Nobody has to be right, and nobody has to be wrong. We’re just different. 🙂
You COULD, in theory, make this an “on demand” service – but then what happens when the demand is high, but you’re also doing something else (like shipping grab bag babies?) Then people have to wait and get unhappy about waiting and you have more customer service issues.
but we have to wait when we order something around the same time as a GB anyway…I’ve ordered little things all the time around GB time, takes about the time a GB does to ship in my experience….
And no one EVER complains about the delays in shipping as a result of grab bags. 😉
Honestly, there’s more to it than that even (though I figured everyone would be tired of the text wall)- if Windstone knows they are making 30 emps, they make sure they have stuff for 30 emp boxes. But if you do it “on demand”, you don’t know how many orders for boxes you’d get.
What if you get a box order, but you don’t have the stuff to make the box? What if it takes months to get in those things? Selling things you don’t have in stock is risky. (Also, no offense, but I’d rather they use their supply of boxes at any given time to ship product, not so I can have a spare – it would be really annoying to know you couldn’t BUY a piece because all the boxes were committed to box only orders!)
That isn’t to say that they might never do it, but it’s just not a super simple decision to make and from a basic business standpoint it doesn’t seem like the payout would be worth it.
The original post was it would be something fans would like and a simple way to make more money.
My counter point was that it’s not particularly simple and probably wouldn’t make much money (and might cost money).
I actually enjoyed your text wall, Kiya. Loved the, “But wait, there’s more.” Got a good chuckle from that. I’d stay on a box waiting list for 6 months if it meant getting a box T_T (Is that pathetic?)
I don’t know for sure, but here are some likely reasons:
1.) It helps prevent/identify knock offs. One way a lot of people can tell it’s a mint Winstone is that it has a Windstone box. There are a lot of knock-offs on the market – can you imagine how much more confusing it would be if they had legit boxes?
2.) It’s time consuming. Windstone has a pretty small staff and they are usually 100% busy doing things to ship new sculpts. Making boxes takes time (not a lot of time, but it adds up). They don’t always have boxes for the items they are selling (remember the last GBY batch?), let alone boxes just to sell.
3.) It would be REALLY expensive to the purchaser. With the rise in price for shipping, plus labor, plus materials – you could be paying as much or more for an empty box as you would for a small/medium sculpt.
4.) There’s no profit in it really. Sales don’t equal profit. If something is fairly expensive to make relative to it’s value, you can’t mark it up much and still sell it. So, lots of work and hassle, but no real benefit to the company.
As I said, I can’t swear these are the reasons – but I’ve probably hit at least a couple 🙂
I’m sure you’re probably right, Kiya, but just because I can, I’ll respond to your responses, lol. None of this is meant to be argumentative, I just enjoy the thrill of the debate 😉
1) I don’t know if there’s really enough knock offs (or knock offers that would be willing to pay for legit boxes) to make it an issue. I mean, are there people who mass produce knock off Windstones and need a lot of boxes to mail them? I feel like people will have just one or two they try to sell. And even if they did have a legit box, most of the knock offs look pretty obvious, and a box wouldn’t be enough to put the suspicions to rest. The felt pads I can understand, but boxes not so much.
2) (I wasn’t actually here for the last GBY batch, but it sounds like there was a lack of boxes happening). I guess for this one I’d say just sell boxes when they’re in surplus, or get someone part time to make boxes. That would make a nice summer job for a kid; get to sit in the factory and look at all the pretties while preparing boxes for mailing. I’d be all over that 😉
3) I think we as purchasers realize it would be expensive, but would probably be willing to do it anyway. The amount you’d have to pay for a box might seem high, but if it saves a piece that’s worth astronomically more I’d say it’s worth it. Emp boxes anyone? 😉
4) There could be profit in it I think. If I were to buy a box, I’m not really paying for the box, I’m paying for the ability to safely and confidently transport my Windstones, and that’s worth a lot more than the price of some cardboard, so the company could charge a lot more than the cost of the cardboard I feel like.
Thank you, Amy Jane!
I’ll admit, sometimes I do slip into lurker mode, but I’m going to try not to here! 🙂
Also, love your icon. So cute!
Aw, thanks. I’m a big Totoro fan, so I figured, “Hey, why not?”
And like the others have said, your collection will definitely grow. When I first started I thought to myself, I’ll just get the family of white unicorns and that’ll be it. Never before have I been so wrong XD
Welcome to the realm of the speaking Windstone nuts! We’re glad to have you. One fewer lurker 🙂
Can’t wait to see you around the forums.
Quoting Melody… 🙂 “They lay eggs and hatch from eggs, but do not reproduce”
twindragonsmum 🙂
:stare: I need some more tea to contemplate that one hehe.
Hmm…hermaphrodite cloning critters…. “O_o …It works. ^_^
No, even hermaphrodites reproduce. Poads don’t.
Eh, sorry, but if they’re creating more of their species then they are, by definition, reproducing. They’re not sexually reproducing, and if you say they’re not hermaphrodites I guess they’re not reproducing in that way either, so I guess they reproduce by magic, because they are making more of themselves. Unless the eggs they lay actually have a rejuvenated version of themselves inside and the older body dies. That would be egg laying without reproduction I suppose. [Biology major talking]
I’m waiting on pearl personally 🙂
