I know you mentioned ‘monochrome’ about this one… but the subtlety of tone and the fact that I can imagine this running round in my garden* I think this is one of the nicest paint jobs on a gryphon I’ve seen so far. Not that I don’t like the others I’ve seen, but I LIKE silver-grey, and the blue eyes are gorgeous and work so well with the colours.
I also like the tabby face markings – the scarab and tearlines. Gives him more plausibility.
Thanks for sharing!
* we’ve got a greyish tabby kitten who lives down the street and visits our cats in our garden.
Where in Europe are you finding canned pumpkin?
I’ve been hunting for it in Britain for the last eight years, and have had to make ‘mock pumpkin’ pie for every single year…
You know, I’m probably just being pedantic, but having lived in Yorkshire for the last eight years… if it isn’t made with lamb or mutton, it’s not shepherd’s pie, it’s “Cottage” pie.
But that addition of parmesan cheese to the recipe sounds really, really nice… I’ll have to try it!
I know that the production models are airbrushed, but is anyone who’s not directly affiliated with Windstone doing airbrushed PYO models?
Any tips for someone who’s got an airbrush kicking around and wants to try working on slipcast porcelain before buying a PYO she doesn’t want to ruin?
SPark wrote:Ooo, hot chocolate. I have this Black and Green hot chocolate (that’s the brand name, not the color it is!) It’s dark chocolate hot cocoa. It’s soooooooooooo good! I think I need to go make a cup now.
Green & Black’s.
I love their organic dark chocolate bars – particularly the “Maya Gold” which has orange and cinnamon in it. I’ve never tried their hot chocolate.
I never did get my chocolate-spread toast last night. Guess I just don’t have enough “belief shapes reality” power to create toasted bread with chocolate spread on it of any origin, Tesco supermarket or otherwise.
enchantments wrote:3rd sucked (other than the hippogryph) and 4th was great (loved the dragon).
Now, I thought HP:3 the movie wasn’t THAT bad – it wasn’t GOOD, but I wouldn’t say it sucked.
HP:4, though… if I were JKR I’d be asking for a refund of rights to it. They BUTCHERED the book and made a lot of it totally nonsensical. Not to mention that Dumbledore would NEVER have shouted at or shaken Harry at that part in book canon – he was still very soft-spoken and calm. The new actor just doesn’t do it as well as Richard Harris did.
I am sort of cowering internally at the thought of film HP:5 … because they did so many BAD things in the fourth one, left so much out, that I don’t know how they will, for example, do the “I Will Not Tell Lies” part … because there weren’t any “Harry Potter is just an attention seeking liar” articles written by Rita Skeeter in movie Four.

That sounds suspiciously like Nutella….
I was actually thinking Tesco own-brand, though I suppose I could pop down to the petrol station and pick up some Nutella 🙂
I am craving Hazelnut-chocolate spread on toast. Preferably with a piece of peanut butter toast on top as a sandwich.
What guilty cravings do you get?

*chuckle* I thought you might – I did a digital painting for you on one of the LJ exchanges.

I do not own a single windstone yet (in da works) but I do dragon art 🙂
any chance to see a pic of the guy?Given how big and fragile he is I wouldn’t be really keen on shipping him out of the UK… I’d almost prefer to have him go somewhere he could be hand delivered, just so I know that any bumps, dings or bruises are entirely because *I* have mishandled him, not because a carrier has played football with him.
Goldragon2! wrote:So sorry you feel like you lost your friend, but maybe you could pray for her and try to lovingly explain your faith so she can see how wonderful it is to believe in our awesome God. A testimony about how He has helped you or answered prayer would be a good start. Don’t give up, sometimes people come into your life for a reason, and even if you just plant a seed, maybe someone else could water it and help it grow. I hope I didn’t offend anyone, but I just wanted to offer some encouragement. Have a blessed Holiday Season!
As a non-Christian non-atheist, that’d honestly offend me personally as much as the deliberate blasphemy would offend a Christian. Sorry, but my religion is just as valid as yours, I don’t need a ‘seed’ planting. This doesn’t mean I don’t respect Christians – it just means I do not like proselytising.
I can certainly understand WHY SPark was upset – I went through a LOT of heckling for my beliefs in high school and university (until I learned, the hard way, not to bother even mentioning it). I’ve been told I’m “Going to Hell” for the last twenty-two years. It would be equally distressing to me if someone I thought I could trust and who indicated they were unbiased and respectful towards the religious turned around one day and started mocking my beliefs and through them me.
There may be some ‘overreact’ on both sides.
I hope that you can come to a decision about continuing a friendship with this person that you can be content with – whether it be you decide that it was a momentary lapse in good taste (or that they just didn’t realise you’d be that offended) and stay friends or whether you decide that it was offensive enough that you really can’t in good conscience associate with them.
That said, I do have to admit that I have the feeling that, if she is expected to respect your religion… aren’t you going to accord her the same amount of leeway – that perhaps she really just wasn’t thinking about it and that she didn’t mean it as an offense to YOU… but that she is equally entitled to her beliefs?

I’d have to dig it out – I don’t have a scan of it, and it’s from before I did digital art as much as I do now. It’s probably in storage in my garage somewhere. I definitely remember doing something that was going to be purple and peach, though!
Thinking about it, it might even date back to when my website was on Furnation (and back then, it was “Dhriisi” and not “Ssthisto” that you clicked on to find me… )

My friend is from Utah, do you know her?” And I’m all “Er… several million people in Utah, so probably not.”
Though I suppose it’s possible. Name’s not ringing any bells for me though.
I’ve seen your website before – I also recognised the ‘suits. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’d heard of me, say, five years ago, before I dropped out of the ‘public eye’ due to so many people thinking that reposting my art and mutilating it was ‘doing me a favour’.
I’m sure I tried DRAWING a draconic character of yours at one point, but might never have actually shown it to you… IIRC, my drawing involved roller skating.

MAN I wish I had $800 laying around. 😯
What, a Draco cast-resin sculpture?
If you were in the UK I’d practically GIVE the one I have away… or trade him for something prettier and shinier like a nice Emperor or a Brazilian rainbow boa. You’d have to forgive the fact that I resculpted his nose, however – when I got him it looked like someone’d sliced it off with a dull butter knife. His face was pug-flat. NOTHING like the picture on the box.
But Draco-the-Expensive is sitting in my reptile room stuffed in a corner and completely and utterly unloved. Nice sculpt, but face was very badly done, and those back spines snap off if you breathe wrong.
I was also disappointed in him because when WE bought ours the site described him as being porcelain (which we would have been happy paying what we paid for him)… not resin.
vantid wrote:When it comes to audiobooks, the reader can make or break the story. I’ve had several books ruined by readers, like American Gods
Thanks for mentioning that, because I read the book and liked it – I’d have hated to get the book on tape and hated it. That said, the only books on tape I’ve ever heard are the Red Dwarf series, read by Chris Barrie (who is a talented voice mimic to begin with).
For a dragon fan, I’m a bit ashamed to say I’ve looked at the Eragon book and thought “Oh, look, a teenager’s written Dragonriders of Pern and not gotten sued!” … so I haven’t read it yet.
I’m hoping to get the first book in the Temeraire series for Christmas (or shortly thereafter…) and I love Lackey’s Joust series, though. I’d like to see Joust made into a film, though I don’t think it’d ever be that popular.
