Classified Ad issues: Our classified ads are temporarily disabled (the create ad button and the edit button is not there – sorry there was no warning – this needed to happen suddenly) while we move data from the old (poorly functioning) part of our website to the new part where the store is. We apologize, as we meant to have the new classified ad section ready for you to use before having to disable the old one. Many apologies. You may all want to be sure you can communicate with one another by regular email concerning your ads – just in case pm’s don’t work right. We may have some funky things going on for the next week or so. :~ Please forgive this inconvenience.
On the bright side: a forum that works better is coming soon! 🙂
May 26, 2016 at 5:26 pm #948553Maybe it’s our own fault because we saw all of the unis in the live stream and it didn’t occure to any of us to request the natural safaris be put into its own seperate grab bag batch.
When the June/July 2014 Youngs were announced, there was some discussion about whether or not they would be in two separate batches because there were definite divides between people who absolutely wanted a fantasy uni and people who absolutely wanted a safari one. I may be remembering incorrectly, but I believe that we were told that it would be too much work to separate them. Whatever the reason, they were not separated into different batches and perhaps that is why they weren’t for this batch either.
I believe that if they knew enough people wanted it, they would work something out for it in the future. The only problem is that there are certainly a lot of unis that could straddle that line between fantasy and Safari, so which uni would belong to which batch? For example, Briar Rose is undoubtedly a safari uni except for the flowers on his neck, so does that mean he’s a fantasy? Are safaris strictly natural colored unis and fantasy strictly “unnatural” colors? Do fantasy colored feathers on the back of an otherwise naturally colored uni make the uni a fantasy? There are certainly some extremes, but that may be another factor in why it would be difficult to split them into batches. If Melody didn’t have 2 batches in mind when she was making them, I can see why a lot of the features fade over from a safari look to fantasy look.
Again, I think if it concerns enough people it should certainly be a question that we ask 🙂

Yeah, These safari based ones aren’t straight safari. They’re a blend of two animals, or a mix of both safari and fantasy. My mom got a gorgeous safari-esque tiger but the pink feathers are definitely fantasy so she’s straddling the worlds. I think if they were to do separate batches it would have to be planned out before painting started and then be straight, single animal safari and straight fantasy colors. I can imagine for an artist that might feel constraining, but I don’t pretend to know how anyone else thinks!

Good points. I suppose blue morpho could be considered a natural color too. In my own mind, at least when it comes to windstone colorations, fantasy is bright and loud colors that may be mixed with neutral colors. Natural is pale neutral colors with no pops of bright color, especially a piece painted soley in browns and black. Brown can never be a fantasy color on its own, but when paired with a bright green or pink, it can cross over. I personally consider Briar Rose fantasy because the flowers pop, even though it could be considered natural. Nature has a ton of bright colors so I can see where the that line could blur.
So, I assume when others say “natural” they think of a piece painted only in shades of brown, black, and white. Maybe dark green too.
May 26, 2016 at 6:15 pm #948557One reason I sat this grab bag out was because I thought most of the unicorns were predominantly fantasy, which I’m not keen on (the other reason was that it would have cost me about $600 Canadian!). It wouldn’t surprise me if other safari-lovers on this forum abstained from this batch for the same reason I did. There are a few mixed safari/fantasy young unicorns from this batch that I love (Vendrick, Azriel, Ripple, among others), but I have no GB young to trade for them.
May 26, 2016 at 9:12 pm #948563I know I probably would have been happier with a more fantasy-themed one…although Heidun is definitely a mix of both with his lovely feathers.
I have had my guy sitting here for 2 weeks and while he’s pretty cool, I don’t love him like I do my GB gothic. So he may be searching for greener pastures…either on eBay or for trade for other Windstone stuff (not necessarily another GBY…I really love the Sun & Moon oriental dragons…). I guess I feel like there’s no point holding on to him knowing there’s something out there I may like better.
I am still very happy I participated though! I adore grab bag-style things!
May 26, 2016 at 9:25 pm #948566I was lucky and found a non unicorn trade for my safari. While i did want another uni, I am very happy with the trade i was given. I know it can be a bummer to wait so long for a sculpt, invest the money, and not enjoy the one you receive, but maybe think outside the uni trade and you will find something else that you have wanted.
May 27, 2016 at 1:14 pm #948549Btw, I can’t edit my ads. The edit button is gone! Has anyone else noticed this issue?
I can’t either. I also can’t post an ad. 🙁
Not to hijack this thread, but I have access to a fantasy-type unicorn that the person is willing to trade for a safari. No, it’s not Euphoria, so please don’t ask. PM me if you are interested and we can trade pictures (and possibly unicorns).
*edit* the trade is agreed on and we’ll be shipping this weekend. Thanks to all who expressed interest 🙂
Life is beautiful.
May 27, 2016 at 2:56 pm #948565Yeah I was wondering about that if some people didn’t join this time. My mom just happened to get some extra pension money at the beginning of May and I saved a lot. But I may sell one depending on what happens with trades as I only was planning on keeping one. Or I may be willing to trade one for other pieces like smaller grab bags or special pieces if anyone wants to offer. I love baby unis, pegasi, kirins and poads too.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

May 29, 2016 at 4:52 am #948614Is anyone else waiting on a young uni or needing help posting photos? There are so many we haven’t seen yet that even if you don’t want to trade it would still be nice to see pictures! Or if you have anything to trade I know a lot of us are still hoping to trade ours.
As for my two safaris posted earlier, I will take trade offers til April 1 for other young unis, baby unis, kirins, pegasi, poads or other grab bags or special pieces. I am also taking cash offers now starting at what I paid and will sell one or both unis to the highest offer by April 7 if a trade isn’t secured by then.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
