Lovely paint jobs! I love the griffin and kirin!
December 10, 2014 at 9:06 pm #922848Deciding to make some of my friends PYOs for Christmas means a heck of a lot of painting! I’m almost done with the Christmas presents though. (But they’ve given me a ton of ideas for PYOs I want to make for myself, or just to put up for sale.)
Anyhow, this one is the MOST fun, although also a ton of work! It glows in the dark, how awesome is that?! Although glow in the dark paint is awful to work with. It’s thick and gloopy, but takes a million coats. I had to stop before getting it perfectly smooth, because it was so thick it was starting to obscure the fur detail. (There’s like seven coats of it.) Also painting all those stripes… seven times each. Holy crap.
The design of this critter isn’t mine, it’s a character belonging to a friend of mine. I probably wouldn’t have inflicted all those stripes on myself!
But the end result was totally worth it, it came out amazing! (And has prompted me to get in some glow in the dark pigment powders, in hope that this will make painting glow things a little easier. We’ll see.)
December 10, 2014 at 10:28 pm #922855I know exactly what you mean about the Glow paint – I test painted a turtle and with two Thick coats you can hardly tell!
Let us know if the powders work better.
Great job on the Neon Kitsune BTW! 🙂IN SEARCH OF MY NEXT GRAILS:

Well, the stuff I got was cheap crap. 😀 If you get something that isn’t a children’s craft set, for $5, you might get something at least slightly better!
(I didn’t buy it for this project, but I had it on hand when I had the idea, so I figured I might as well go ahead and use it.)
December 11, 2014 at 6:08 am #922886love the way the kitsune glows!!

December 11, 2014 at 3:39 pm #922896Neat effect on the kitsune! I know what you mean about the cheap glow in the dark paint. Tried it on something else in a single coat…ended up with a very faint eerie glow. The glow you got is much better. You’ll have to let us know how the powder pigment version does.

This adorable little guy is mixed media. Mostly watercolor, but the white stripes are acrylic. (Because trying to leave them white while using watercolors would be an exercise in futility.) I LOVE how he came out. Sometimes simple designs are the best designs.
Since I finally have the Christmas PYO project off my plate, I have the time to take a few commissions now, if anyone’s interested. They’d be finished probably early January, but possibly sooner, if I get bored of sewing and decide to do some more painting this month. (I probably shouldn’t, I have a lot of sewing to do, but doing the same thing every day gets really old sometimes. Anyhow.) My rates can be found at the bottom of the commission artist sticky. I am open to negotiation, and to trades too. 😀
(Also, the fire muse is still looking for a home, just fyi. Totally willing to negotiate on her price, or trade her for something, I’d rather see her go cheap to somebody who’d love her than sit here being ignored.)
December 12, 2014 at 7:28 pm #922944Dang it, I just got the BEST idea for a kitsune paint job, but the store is out of kitsunes. 🙁 I need another foo pup too, but I don’t want to order just to get a foo pup.
December 13, 2014 at 8:56 pm #923002Testing out an idea on this little guy. Not sure how I feel about it, honestly. It’s a combination of the Willow color scheme and the Stone color scheme from the kirin and kittygriff I did. I like some bits of it, but I still don’t know if I want to scale it up to the adults or not. I need to get in some more pups to do some more test paints. Also I want to give him different eyes, I don’t like the blue eyes. (They’re not glued in yet, so I can change them.)
December 14, 2014 at 2:29 am #923019Green eyes might look good on your Stone Willow Foop if you can get them. Perhaps similar in color to the tail?
Nice colors on the Foop – I like them very much. 🙂IN SEARCH OF MY NEXT GRAILS:

Nice colors on the Foop – I like them very much. 🙂I was thinking either green, or the metallic periwinkle. (There’s a little purple interference on there, and I think it would bring it out.)
Here’s what I’m working on right now:
Some bits of it are coming out nicely, some I’m struggling with. And this is another watercolor one, which means you can’t just paint over the bits you change your mind on, you’re kind of stuck with them.
You guys ever get discouraged when your projects just aren’t doing what you want? (Or when people don’t seem to like the ones you really liked?) I’m kinda blah right now. Mostly it’s because of the light, since I have Seasonal Affective Disorder, but artistic frustration doesn’t help.

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.December 15, 2014 at 8:16 pm #923068After shooing the cat out of my lightbox, I got some pics of my latest PYO. It’s another watercolor one, doing a little bit more experimenting with what I can do with it. (You can’t antique with it, exactly, but I got a sorta similar effect this time. Needs more experimenting to perfect, I think.)
It’s very loosely based on a kingfisher and a flame-point siamese cat.
It’s also for sale, I’ll be sticking it up in the classifieds later. 🙂
