Grr… well, obviously the one that posted was the peacock. I did try posting both, but apparently only one went through! I’d try editing it, but last time I tried that it did not go well!!! So hopefully this will post the brown.
Speaking of tongues however, i just noticed my little old mans mouth didn’t connect all the way around. Meaning that unlike my other hatchers the mouth is sort of… broken in the front. I’m not sure (and couldn’t find pictures of) what the tongue Melody mentioned looked like. I tried to grab a picture of the mouth of one of my peacocks and of this flat brown one.
Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry that looks to have posted several times over! It didn’t show like that on the screen, but I did have some issues with the pictures.
Anyway, thanks guys! Brown is the only color I could imagine it being, but it looked so red I wasn’t sure. At least I wasn’t wholly wrong about the little guy! Interesting!
So I need your guys help on a little hatchling I recently got on ebay for a whole $20, shipping and all. I’d love to know how old it might be, what color it is, and heck if it has any extra value for some reason. He came almost perfect, just had the smallest of chips on the raised edge of the second ridge. The tiniest little bit of apoxy sculpt and some gold paint and you’d never know.
I honestly thought it might be a repaint when I bought it because it was completely flat, and I hadn’t seen a hatching dragon that was actually painted in a flat color. Once I got it I became fairly certain it wasn’t a repaint but it’s left me flabbergasted. Not only is it painted flat, but the quality control is a little… less than I’m use to. That was hard to say, I feel like I’m insulting something I love, but it’s true. The paint is thinner than I’m use to and a little, sloppily applied, plus there is a sizable bubble/hole under his chin.
He has no felt pad but does have the stamp, so I don’t think he’s a fake. Plus the detail of the sculpt is very crisp, and making a fake would lose detail, it’s actually crisper than I’m use to. Crisp enough that I was able to use it as a good guild line when building out a broken spine fin on a different egg. (Every other egg I’ve ever gotten the same fin was broken off LOL)
So, what are your thoughts?

You can see how sharp the details are in this picture. His eyes even look deeper set, although I can’t tell if his eyes are smaller or the socket is deeper.
This shows the rather sizable pock mark and one other flaw under his chin.Oh how I love Kirins, and of all the various versions out in the world, Melody makes some of my favorites. (By types I mean of different companies and historical ect) I was given a unicorn book as a 10 year old and loved them from that point. Friends even named our household “Kirin” at one point and my husband (then boyfriend) and I got a version I drew tattooed on us. So… LOL… obviously I love them.
I count myself lucky to have gotten a whole original family when I was in my twenties, mostly through gifts, and they are some of my most prized possessions. My favorite, I hate to sa,y is actually a beautiful antique bronze one we found. Along with my original family I have I one of the little footed albino babies and a PYO I haven’t yet figured out how I want to do him.
My favorite Windstone Kirins is one I found on the internet, I’m pretty sure I read somewhere in the forum that it was a test paint or something and because they didn’t have a standard horn on hand they used a dragon horn. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that guy and would give about anything to have one. I would certainly buy more if new ones were brought out. I’m not really into the pastel or koi painted ones, but a deep red or yellow toned ones… dreamy.
I’d take a picture of mine for you, but frankly I’d need to dust them first. LOL
I figure this is as good a first post as any….
Kirins.
I know that’s rather simplistic, so to clarify, the Kirins are absolutely, positively my very very very favorite. So any Kirin of a different pose, or darker coloration. (I saw a female online in a seriously dark red, to die for)
Thing I want most in a Kirin? I saw one I believe was a test paint or something in the PYO pose with one of the dragon horns. It’s close to what you see in classic kirins. I’d sell my left kneecap for that!!
I’m count myself lucky that I was able to afford to buy the whole family in the old coloration when I was younger. They (and my PYO and small footed albino) have followed me from Fl, to AK!
