Thanks, you guys!
Awwww… your little Peacock Kitsune is Pretty!
The nine tails and his position also make me think of Turkeys when they fan their tail feathers as well.
Nice Job! πIf I had infinite time/kitsunes, I would paint one in turkey colors, that would be pretty too.
If you want to just antique over a white piece, you’re going to have to paint it white or seal it first. Antiquing doesn’t work on bare gypsum, no.
It FINALLY CAME TODAY! I finished my work and then stayed up until waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too late painting it. OMG it came out so pretty!
Yeah, my “brilliant” idea was to paint it like the peacock I did. π The tails just seemed perfect! Honestly I want to do another one, just to fiddle with the colors and exactly how I do it. This one came out so pretty, but there’s already things I want to change.
Anyhow, I will update the first post, and put this guy up for sale later, right now I have to collapse into bed. Night!
That kirin is just beautiful. I love your color choices.
I think Windstone has had *so* much trouble fighting rip-off artists and thieves that they’re a little over-protective sometimes. I can’t blame them, really, it’s just a bit of a shame when a few fans get over-aggressive about it too. I’ve had the same thing happen to me, a few years back. It was, to be honest, about half the reason why I was gone from the forums for so long. I got some kind of nasty PMs from forum members over a repaint situation.
I don’t understand how this is an issue. Didn’t John say it’s “illegal to purposefully remove or alter the copyright”? But you haven’t purposefully removed anything, it broke off. So how is it having broken off illegal?
I suspect it’s because postal insurance doesn’t come with first class mail. So the insurance claim can pay for what was in my box given the priority shipping I’d picked, but wouldn’t give Windstone anything for replacing yours, which puts Windstone in a much harder spot. And also, a grab bag dragon is a one of a kind, they didn’t have any just sitting on the shelf, ready to go to replace it with.
P.S. The blue jay is probably going to be for sale. I’ve got somebody who said they *might* be interested in it when it was done, and I’m waiting for them to reply to me, but it’s pretty likely that won’t come through. I’ll probably put up a classified listing for it tomorrow.
I’m keeping it a surprise. I think people will like it, though!
Here’s the blue jay griff.
And that’s all the griffins I’m doing for a while, unless I get commissioned for one! Because I’ve finally used up the ones I bought back when they were the only PYO out there. For the first time in a great many years, I don’t have a bunch of dusty boxes full of griffins in my closet, yay!
I find that so long as you’re only thinning it a little bit, water works just fine. If you’re thinning it a lot, I’d go for the medium. Although I don’t use the liquitex, so I have no mental image of how thick they are to begin with. I work mostly with brands that already come pretty thin.
I went to the post office today, and was told that since it’s marked as delivered, that means that as far as their system is concerned it’s been delievered, and there’s nothing at all they can do. Considering that they’ve known that it had been marked delivered but not actually delivered since my first complaint two weeks ago, I’m a little annoyed that it took this long for them to say that! I was told that the only recourse I have is having Windstone file an insurance claim.
However, there is good news, because when I contacted Susie, she said they’d go ahead and ship me a replacement while they get the claim sorted out with the post office! π I swear, Windstone has the best customer service of any company I’ve ever dealt with, they are amazing. Once they even shipped replacement felt pads to a friend of mine all the way over in New Zealand when she lost some. They’re so good to us.
So yay!
I was feeling cheered up enough by the news that whatever happens I’ll get my kitsune to finish my blue jay griffon. I had a bit of a struggle with the light blue and the antiquing, but the end result is still pretty good, I think! I’m taking pictures now, and I’ll post them in a few minutes.

He is SO pretty! I love pretty much everything about him, actually. π
I really hope it turns up again. Even if it does, though, I’m still pretty annoyed. I have an awesome idea to paint! I set aside time yesterday for it and everything!
I went to the post office today to see what they could do, but they had no idea where it was. They’re going to talk to my carrier after his shift, and see if he remembers the package. He probably won’t, though, or will say just “yeah, I delivered that, just like the tracking says”, which will be less than useful.

My kitsune has gone missing. The tracking info says it was delivered this morning, but it wasn’t there when my husband left for work, it wasn’t in the mailbox, the neighbors haven’t seen it, it’s just gone. And we live such that nobody passes by, we’re not on the main road and our front door is up two flights of stairs, so I don’t think it could have been stolen. I don’t even know what to think. I’m going to the post office tomorrow to see if they can find it.
I’m hugely disappointed. I’ve been SO looking forward to this, and then it’s just… gone, poof, not there. π
I thought I’d post a WIP photo of the bluejay gryphon. She’s the last of my old stock of gryphons with the eyes glued in (most of which were also the old soft-feather ones! She’s the first hard-feather gryphon I’ve painted, and OMG it makes it so much easier to detail the feathers!)
Anyhow, she’s got all her base colors here, but no real detailing. I’ll be adding lots of shading and texture and such to her. Though she’ll probably go on the back shelf tomorrow when my kitsune gets here. I am stupidly excited about the awesome idea I have for painting it. I am keeping it a surprise, but I hope people like it.
