(Whoops, double post, sorry!)
I was going to do a batch of grab bag pebble kitties… but everyone really wants one in their own cat’s colors. Since there are so many cat colors, almost everyone is very likely to get a cat that isn’t “right”. I am not sure how to do this so everyone is happy!
Do you guys still want a grab bag pebble kitty batch? -or should I just paint a few in each color type and put them in categories in the store? ( Pam hates that idea because is a lot of work to photo, and make separate categories for them all!)
OR we could stick a few individual kitties in our new Etsy store https://www.etsy.com/shop/WindstoneEditions?ref=search_shop_redirect
for people who want to buy a specific cat.I think GB is still a good idea.
I would be worried about people buying more than the allotted amount on Etsy – Not because I don’t think people should have more than one, just that the “one per customer” is good till everyone gets a chance at at least one!
This way, people will have a shot at at least getting one cat – Then they can shop around for a good trade.
Basically, even though I want a specific colour – My vote still goes to a grab bag batch!
Did you buy that little guy from Victoria, B.C on eBay? If so I’ve bought from that seller before, and they are super easy to communicate with. Really friendly and helpful. They’re usually really careful when they pack Windstones. I’ve never gotten a broken one from them, and I’ve bought both big and small pieces.
My apologies, I missed this before! The seller was in Texas I think, not B.C.
Will update when I’m able to try to repair it!

As for fixing him I would recommend apoxie sculpt. I received an owl bookend recently who lost an ear during shipping, and the apoxie sculpt worked great to fix it. I had recovered about half of the pieces to reattach and just used the putty to fill in the missing parts. If you use a washcloth or paper towel to pat down the putty you get a great stone like texture. (I think drag0nfeathers mentioned that on the forums before.)
For the smoother texture on the wings I would suggest taking a smooth sided pen and rolling it across to get the smooth texture – then if you have a cuticle pusher (the plastic/rubber kind) use it to kind of push the putty down in little rows to create the ridges. You could use a toothpick first to make the deeper lines, then when you flatten it they should still be there – just less defined.
Good luck fixing it.
It may be a bit harder to get the pattern to match if you have to do it completely from scratch but it should work. It’s kind of like playing with play-doh only more nervewracking. 🙂
Thank you! I will definitely try the toothpick/smoothing technique.
Thankfully they have agreed to give me a partial refund. I think I’ll use that money to buy some Apoxie Sculpt… As this is the second broken one already, seems like a good investment!
I opened a Paypal dispute requesting a 50% refund… Rather than send it back, since it’d cost me like $20. That sounds reasonable I figured…?
My GB fox arrived today!
I love him to bits. I was so hoping for a grey one 🙂
I might not be opposed to trading him for one with no orange, though!
An update!
I am actually quite please with it on the whole. It’s not perfect by any means… But I gave it my best!
In bright light you can see that I had a hard time matching the colour. Thankfully, in regular indoor lighting, you can’t see any difference 🙂
Thank you drag0nfeathers for the advice regarding texture, it helped a ton!
Thanks for the kind words, it makes me feel better – I don’t think I could have approached it differently. They are probably just hardwired to think that electronic money is scary and untrustworthy, lol.
If anyone is curious, this was the ad:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/clt/4583375660.htmlJust so you know who to look out for.
I would advise against dealing them personally, unless you can pick it up yourself… If you are comfortable with that. To be honest I don’t think I’d want to meet them in person! :p
Ooh, the ferret coloring would be lovely on any of the foxes, but I’d squeak for the bat eared as well in that scheme, as well as a bandit ferret, or even a raccoon.
There were some red panda foxes, but they were for ebay and also I think one was also a quest prize as they were very difficult to paint.
I didn’t even think of that, but ferrets have such cute fur patterns..! I think the bandit and/or cinnamon ferret coats would look lovely on any of the foxes 🙂
I don’t have any helpful input, other than people like that really make me mad…!
BUT I will add that I have heard positive things about calling eBay. Electronically you can get lost in the shuffle, but talking to a real person can work wonders!
Should I post the ad, so people know who to watch out for..? I mean, you could take your chances too. But maybe as a heads up for not asking them about shipping or anything.
I’ve never heard of EMT bank transfers, so I googled it. Email Money Transfers, something done in Canada. Is that correct?
Yep, that’s it! It is free and there is no middleman fee, since it is just between the banks. The only downside for the buyer is that it is non-refundable.
My hubby uses it all the time, and I have a couple times, but I didn’t realize it might be Canadian-only. I should probably find out.
The Hoarder won’t be replacing the young dragon. The young dragon is having issues. I had to change the bottom of that sculpture because his tail was too close to the bottom. It was difficult to cast him without losing part of the tail. Now that his “footprint” is different, the old pads don’t fit, soooo … we had to re-do the pad cutter, aaand… we kinda forgot about it. I think the new pad cutter is here now.
He’ll be coming out in blue Morpho soon as we get pads. We aren’t painting sand ,aquamarine, or the other colors at the moment. We should, just to give the painters a break. Blue Morpho is a tough color to paint!Blue morpho does seem like a difficult colour. I for one don’t mind waiting on the other colours when such beauties are coming out in the meantime. The painters do such a great job! I’m sure their hard work gets forgotten about sometimes. 🙂
On that note, I’m super excited for the Hoarder…!
Ha, well THAT was an overreaction. I’m not going to lie, it’s kind of funny they flew off the handle over a simple question. Judgment Day! LOL! What happened to, “do unto others”. Pot calling the kettle black, eh? Sounds like you don’t need to deal with them if they’re going to act like that.
Eek yeah, I decided not to mention the hypocrisy.
I wrote back and tried to explain the EMT thing and how it’s non-refundable, so I’m actually more likely to get ripped off than they are…! But I kept the email short, I didn’t want to make them more angry.
It’s funny and a little sad, you tend to figure people like this exist mostly in movies, haha.
