Ugh thank god we got some rain last night to break this heat wave. I had a horrible work week with all the heat and humidity and last night we had a guy commit suicide only for his daughter to find him hours later. I’m no good at consoling people so when the family is begging me to save them even after we pronounce them I don’t know what to say. The girlfriend showed up right as we were leaving and she was hysterical. We ended up taking her to the hospital and the whole way she just kept asking me why. What the heck and I supposed to say to her? After we cleared that call I had another suicide attempt that I had to take to the hospital. I don’t know what has gotten into people last night, maybe it was the heat. I’m just glad its over and I can vedge in the cooler air for 4 days.
If its a volunteer company I don’t think they will make you pay them back for the class. Just let them know you will still be a member and retake the class after the baby is born and they should be fine. I’ve taken EMT-I and dropped half way through the class and I was never made to pay them back. Also If you did want to finish the class can you ask the instructor if you can push your clinical off until after you have the baby? I can see why you don’t want to do them now being pregnant. I wouldn’t be worried about the bump ambo ride but rather some of the patients you get. I rode the box until I was 6 months pregnant (yeah I had a super woman complex). If I could do it again I would have gone on light duty much faster. You do get the combative patient either from mental illness, trauma, or alcohol. Its no fun having to deal with that when you are pregnant. Even though its not an every day thing to get rowdy patients you never know if the day you do your ride along is the day Joe Blow put his beer muscles on. In the end its up to you if you feel you can finish the class now or not. I would talk to your company officer about it, I’m sure they will help you out.
Edit: I also wanted to add that all you do on ride alongs is observe and take vital signs. They will not let you lift or do anything else (at least thats the way it is around here). Also before you take all the time to go through this class make sure you will be emotionally ready to deal with the calls you will be going on. You will be running everything from sprained ankles, to car accidents and homicides. Will you be able to hold it together when you get that pediatric cardiac arrest or the family member who just found their relative who took their own life? I’ve seen alot of people become an emt only to get an emotional call and crack under the pressure. I don’t think enough people think about what kind of emotional strain this job can have and rush into not knowing what they are getting into.
I just read this as I’m walking out the door for work. Don’t let them intimidate you, when I took my emt B I had a sprained shoulder and couldn’t do the lifting labs either. If you need help with class let me know. I’ll respond more to this when I get off of work in 14 hours.
These past couple of days the temps have been at or near 100 degrees with really high humidity. Of course I’ve had to work in it. Last night we had a call for an fall victim but when we got there he was laying on the floor with his eyes wide open. When I went to take his pulse he was hot hot hot. Turns out his core body temp was 106.7. It seems like these past few days all we have been running is exposure patients from people being outside and not staying cool or hydrating themselves. I have to work one more night in this god forsaken weather then I’m going to be off and hermit in my house until this heat wave breaks.
Seriously thats what they told me. I was like “umm no” we go out on walks in the park and all that. I usually have her in a stroller and keep her covered but I wanted to know if sunblock was ok to use too. She has a whole mess of sun hats and some sunglasses (they still don’t fit her yet). I know I burn like crazy so I don’t want to see the same thing happen to her since she has my lily white skin.
Well it was so hot out today and I really didn’t want to turn on the ac so we headed over to my moms house to use the pool while she was at work. Of course my grand master plan was to jump in, get wet, then leave before my mom came home but that didn’t work out. We did get a free steak dinner though and of course I got a nasty email later but hey I’m all for free steak. Anyhoo here are some pics of Alyssa in the pool for the first time.
tasty fingers!
Did I mention the fingers are tasty?
yes I know I need some sun
What is this giant thing you have me in?
On a side not I called her pediatrician to see if I could put sunblock on her since she is only 4 months old and all the kids sun block say for 6 months and up. They told me they don’t recommend taking children under 6 months outside (no joke). I was like “ummm ok but if I do take her outside can I use it?” They told me it was fine so long as I didn’t put any on her hands since they go right in her mouth.I’ve had problems with cysts and my ob told me that its normal for all women to get ovarian cysts. She said sometimes they get big and thats what causes all the pain. I think it was wrong of your doctor to jump the gun and say it might be cancer without doing some kind of testing to back up his claim. I had problems with pain so bad I would just curl up in a ball and cry. I wouldn’t worry yet since cysts are very common in all women and there are lots of woman problems out there that can cause pain.
The lady at the swim school said they start as early as 3 months. I figure since there is alot of water around here between the bay and the ocean she needs to learn how to swim asap. I didn’t learn till I was around 6 or 7 and I don’t even know if they taught babies to swim back then.
I love the raffles. I think its very nice of you to do them.
We decided to sign Alyssa up for swimming lessons today. Danny was looking for something to do together and I was talking to a friend at work who said we should try it out. I think its kind of funny signing a 4 month old up for swimming lessons. I was watching the today show where they had the little babies in the pool that had taken swimming lessons and where taught to roll on their backs and cry if they fall in a pool. I never plan to leave Alyssa alone anywhere near water but just incase something happens I want her to know how to atleast float on her back. We went on a tour of the facility today and talked with the staff. They have a heated pool so its not such a shock to the babies. Then we had to go out and find swim pants for Alyssa and some of those swim shoes for Danny. She starts on June 19th and I plan on taking some pictures of her first time in a pool. It should be fun. Anyone else do swimming baby lessons?
OH wow thats a neat tarot deck. I’ll have to add it to my wish list.
OH I love the cat people tarot. I have the celtic dragon deck but I’ve always wanted to get the cat people too. I got the moon card too.

I could log into my email for a few minutes but its back down again 😥 I pay over a hundred dollars a month for my connection not to work 😡Last night when I tried to get into my email through comcast it said the site was down. Now this morning I try to get in and it tells me there is an error and I need to call my service provider. Of course that gets me on hold for EVER! Does anyone else have comcast and are you having an issue getting into your email? I hate comcast 👿
