    Arlla,
did it ever cross your mind to do a tutorial?
I love your technique! They are so beautiful and I notice that they still all have unique markings, bonus!

PS: did you remove the eyes when you started on these?

I’ve thought about it, though so far, you’re the only one who’s asked…I’m not too sure how I would go about making one…I do things so haphazardly, and I break so many rules…mixing brands of paint, etc… Maybe I’ll put something together after I finish these, if anyone actually wants it.
(and yes, I did remove the eyes – but I don’t recomend that anyone else do that!! It’s very, VERY easy to break their faces.)

I would also love to see a tutorial! Your work is gorgeous!

Ah man… I live really close to her and emailed yesterday… haven’t heard back yet. I guess other people spotted it before me and got ’em.

I was looking at the Gallery and saw the lion kirin #2. Are you planning to make this a production piece I think it looks great?

Have you ever found any of the pieces that were stolen or have the police found anybody who might have done it?As a matter of fact, I am working on lion kirin #2 right this minute. He isn’t too far from being finished. Probably limited production, though I guess we could try him as production. This character , like the Poads(tm) is one of my personal sculptures, so I don’t expect that the random public would be interested in it… but you never know.
No, never heard back about any of that stuff. I’m sure those pieces are in a landfill somewhere by now. There was a perfectly painted and finished poad(tm) that may of ended up somewhere, but the rest of these sculptures were unfinished, so they most likely got tossed.

It makes me positively ill to think about your beautiful sculptures getting tossed… 🙁 😳

Instead I will turn my thoughts to the lion kirin #2 being completed! *hops up and down exitedly* He is so gorgeous and full of personality, I can’t wait! I would think he’d do great as a general production piece, too. 😀 😀 😀

I know that Deco art metallics champagne is a perfect match for the pearl dragons, maybe it would match the kirins too.

Oh thanks! I’ll try that and let you know if it works. 😀

Any clue what I could us for that Kirin’s pearl muzzle color?

I’m not sure… I have never owned a kirin so I can’t look to see what color it is. 🙁 Photos ‘lie’ about color often so I wouldn’t trust my judgment of a photo of one. If no one else has a suggestion for you, you can ask Melody in the ‘Ask Melody’ section. 🙂

Thanks Nam! You’re so right about the monitor color thing. If I don’t get any response I’ll post a question to Melody like you suggested.

Thanks again for your help! Much appreciated. 😀 😀 😀

I have a gothic unicorn with a chipped front hoof. Again I was assuming I’d just try to match by mixing acrylics but if anyone has tips… 😀

Also, a friend is giving me a black griffin that is severely damaged… lots of chunks out of it. I found in a previous thread that FolkArt’s Licorice Black is a good match… but what do people use to match the peacock coloring?

Lastly, is there any particular product people use to coat the repaired areas after repairs are complete? Or do you coat the whole sculpt?

I just repaired the hoof on a gothic unicorn- I got the perfect match by blending burnt umber with some titan buff, both are Golden brand. However, I probably wouldn’t recommend getting these two paints just for the hoof, unless you plan on using them for other things too. They are expensive to just use a drop or two of each!

For the griffin, Golden brand black (carbon or bone) mixed with some burnt umber is an exact match. The peacock coloration can be obtained by painting thinned layers of interference blue and interference violet over the black. Again, these are all expensive paints to get if you just need a few drops of each!

For repairs, I just use a clear brush on sealer/varnish (Golden and Liquitex make these) on the areas that I repaired, so that I don’t have to worry about masking the eyes/horns off. 🙂

Thank you so much, that is so helpful!

    Ah-ha, I see! Thanks! 😀

Maybe I’m blind, but I don’t see where Melody mentioned the Flioness…

Regardless I would love to see one! (Actually I love everything Melody comes up with. 😀 )

Hi, I was hoping for some advice on paint matching. For chips I’ve read that Apoxie Sculpt is the best to use so I’ll be picking up some from the store today.

I have a Mother Kirin with a big chip out of the very front of her muzzle, and I’m really not sure how to match that beautiful pearl color.

I have a baby Kirin with a chip out of the hoof- the DecoArt Gold paint pen matches the gold and I figured I’d just mix brown acrylic to match the fur color, but if anyone has tips before I start that would be wonderful. 😀

You can Email Karen or Susie for some paint. It is not mint but it is in great condition. I would ask for a small refund of you are unhappy. Mint is no chips, cracks, rubs, etc…(only with the little flaws that may come from the factory)

I emailed for paint recently and Susie said “I’m sorry, no touch up paint. We don’t really do that as a normal thing”

I was tempted to email back and offer to pay for it but I didn’t want to be a bother. 😳 Which reminds me… will probably post soon asking for advice on how to touch up a few pieces. 🙂

I would agree that a big scratch isn’t mint. It wouldn’t hurt to email the seller and ask anyway. If you include a picture it might help. They may have overlooked it.

in reply to: Black Emerald vs Black Violet Peacock #577366

I like the BEP better, even though I’m in the minority. I think the green gives just a hint of light and warmth that you don’t get with the cool blue and violet. But both are beautiful! A family combined with BEP and Black Gold would be beautiful! 😀

I adore her work too, especially seeing these earthy pieces. They are so beautiful and spiritual.
