I’d like to know the brand name, the color and the tip size (extra-fine, fine, medium, etc.) of the paint pen that were used for the detailing on the white dragons… I have a little fledgling that needs some touch-ups.
Thanks! That’s a little tricky; The gold effect is created by painting the details with yellow and then airbrushing over them. I think the airbrushed color is pale gold acrylic paint. You might be able to match it with yellow acrylic and then brush a thin layer of gold acrylic over it. The yellow color is a Deco pigment marker. The tip is the medium size, not the fine point one.

Yeah, we’ll keep it safe.
The winner of the #2 white Secret Keeper is someone we haven’t met yet, and they are in France!

I meant real store fronts that are listed as dealers, but no longer have the line in the store. It is hard for us to tell without calling all of them regularly.

I have some pieces there myself, but I’d like to make something available to Forum members at a reasonable price.
In order to be as fair as I can imagine, I thought maybe a contest would be the best way to decide who gets the piece. –I propose a photo contest, with wildlife as the subject, the winner gets a retired Windstone piece as a prize. The winning photo will be reproduced by my gallery and sold, at a 50% split between the winner of the contest and our gallery.
We usually pay 60% to our consignment artists, ( we have like 70 of them), but as we will be printing the photos and packaging them, I think this would be fair. I think it would be a fun contest and maybe even educational. What do you think ❓People love contests… I am always the wet blanket though, I hate ’em. I personally refuse to judge one person’s art against another’s, because to me, that is not the purpose of art…(ah, that is a rant I won’t get into here)…and I want everybody to win. We have discussed this many times around here… This is a good place to get everyone’s input, and ideas on this subject! Your idea is wonderful, and I really appreciate your offer. We will discuss it.. The problem I can see with a photography contest, however, is that not everybody has the equipment,or access to wildlife to participate, so it would be a little unfair.Contests are also a little iffy, legally. We would have to look into what we could or could not do.
What does everyone think? ( No, I am NOT going to judge PYO’s against each other! That would be impossible!)emerald212 wrote:I got a store to start carrying them, but I didn’t get anything for it. Maybe the store didn’t tell Windstones I had contacted them about it.
YOU DID?? Well for heavens sakes! Get the store to tell somebody at Windstone… Or, heck, I’ll tell em…(I’m still in Oregon) what store was it? You deserve something for that!
It sounds as if our dealer list needs upgrading, If you’all would email us with the accounts that are no longer dealers, we could weed them out.February 7, 2007 at 9:36 pm in reply to: Formal Introduction of a New Member, Please everyone read! #536815DragonsCavern wrote:Formal Introduction: New Member, Please everyone read!
Hi my name is Taneea, I know you have seen some of my auctions, especially the last one which turned out to be A VERY BIG MISTAKE I had called it the mini keeper. I HONESTLY didnt know I was causing any harm. I have been collecting Melodys dragons since I was a kid and am now 30 years old, and STILL have all her dragons and other sculptures from my childhood. They mean so much to me. When I had gotten a few emails from a couple of the forum members letting me know I should look at the forum and that there might be a problem with my auction. I had NO clue that there was a forum, and that I was violating anything (HONESTLY). I always had called in my orders therefor never really browsed the site. I know now I SHOULD HAVE. I had gotten ONE special email, and retracted that auction AS SOON AS I COULD HAVE! After reading it, I had felt like I had betrayed a special friend!! I had been up all night crying (don’t know why I am saying this), not because of the retraction, but because of the sooo many people I HAD HURT in the process. I had also changed my name on Ebay to WindstoneEditionsCreations because I just wanted to find the perfect name for what I was doing, which was trying to paint and create some beautiful PYO’S (As Ebay states: Choose a screen name that best fits what you are selling or doing), I was never trying to impersonate Melody OR Windstone in any way shape or form. So now my name has been changed to DragonsLairTreasures as per requested (The name change). I just wanted to ask all of you to please forgive me….ESPECIALLY John and Melody! And if you would all accept me into forum accepting my deepest, sincerest apologies and accepting me as one of you, and to be part of the Windstone family here on the forum. I want to thank John, Melody (ESPECIALLY for all her wonderful creations over the many years and the PYO’s), DragonFeathers, Arlla, and Watergazer for all your help in showing me the way. I hope to get to know all of you better, and entrust that I am not out to harm or hurt anyone.
Thank You all for reading, and would love to hear from you all! 🙂
P.S. YES!! The troublemaker (Thats his new name LOL) is still in my possession and thats where my little trouble maker will always stay I assure you, he sits atop my computer desk above me watching my every move LOL.
Thank you all for reading this. Sincerely, Taneea AKA now DragonsCavern on the Forum.<3whippetluv wrote:not to stir any pots…but gosh, the Breyer company even encourages repaints and custom additions to their work, and it does not seem to hurt them at all. In fact it means that one person might buy dozens of one model vs a collector who would just buy one. I understand the Windstone company not wanting people to copy thier more unique colors, but really…people have made dragons with gold accents for generations. That is not exactly a new idea. And people have made green or brown dragons for ages too. I understand that the company does not want other companies Mass Producing these, but one hand painted sculpture clearly labeled as an amatur paint job, not from the factory, should never be a problem.
Look at ancient dragon sculptures in Thailand. They have gold accents on wings and lips and horns/claws. They have rainbow scales.
Even Windstone for example decided to do the oriental dragon in a Koi design like I recently did *against their general wishes, but not outright against them*, I would not think they were copying me. I would say hey, I knew it was a good idea and a natural idea for that mold considering that Koi and Oriental dragons are both a huge deal in Asian cultures…its a natural idea to combine them.
None of us (including that girl that did the secret keeper based PYO) intend to undersell Windstones.I just hope this company doesn’t do what Disney has done. They go after each little person who dares to admire their work enough to get a Tattoo of their charater and sues them. It takes away some of the joy.
So yeah I won’t sell any peices that are direct copies of Windstone peices…but I think this is getting a bit blown out of proportion.
I think perhaps the thing to say is that “one can not resell PYO sculptures done in the same designs owned by Windstone Editions”. That way if people really want a tan gryphon to match their set, they can “try” to make one, but they can never sell it later. It makes us feel less trapped as collectors, but does not hurt your copyright or sales numbers! 🙂Yes! This copyright thing is a headache for all of us!! The Breyer company brings up a point that I would like to make.. if the color/pattern is a naturaly occurring one; one that is on a real animal, you are free to use it! I did koi dragons years and years ago, when I sculptd the first Oriental dragon, but because it is a real animal pattern, we don’t claim to own it.Breyer horses are real horse colors, and nobody owns that. (I mean, except for the ones made to look like Spaceships or something)BUT our colors, like the old brown and old green dragon pattern, for example, was not a real animal color, or pattern, nor were they derived from any other pre-existing art work that was not my own. I made them up. It became part of our distinguishing “look”, by which folks could recognise our product. We also managed to protect the gold, and color spot patterns.
I also want to make it clear that it isn’t because we are jerks that we must be picky and strict about this matter, it is absolutely essential to protect copyrights.I HATE it, but this is the world we live in..( Disney is in the same boat!)Arlla wrote:So, Melody, have we convinced you yet to bring back the original oriental?? We’re still begging….
Any closer to releasing any of the orientals in a new color?? I know you don’t encourage repaints, but did you see the beautiful koi oriental dragon that Whippet painted??
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/cornflakegirlpony/100_7717.jpg
A koi pattern would make a WICKED AWESOME new production color….I remember you saying that it looks better done by hand than with an airbrush, but most of us think your koirin looked just beautiful…Also, are you planning on making any more birman flap cats??? I saved up and just when I was ready to buy one they were gone…and I know I’m not the only one who missed out! I suspect we won’t be bringing any of the Orientals back as production pieces. They are just too hard to cast (try to picture removing a seamless, one-piece mold from them) I hoped to someday make them all in limited production colors, including the elusive Moon dragon, but that isn’t something we will be doing in the near future, since the molds will probably need to be redesigned first. If we still have some castings of the Sun dragon and the young dragons sitting around unpainted,(I don’t know if we do, ’cause I’m still in Oregon) I would like do a special “end of run” edition in some weird color…I have tried koi markings on them…and I still got this problem with it.. YICK.( Oh, I take that back! I just looked at Whippets…Why does HERS look good, and mine suck???? )
Yes, we will probably make more Birman flapcats, eventually. I really like those.whippetluv wrote:Watergazer wrote:Ugh, why always white!

I’m very happy to have and continue to be painting Windstones. I am wondering how it feels to see all of your creations come to life with all these painters, and how it feels to help support other artists out there like me. Not only does your company and products give a lot of joy to others but you’re helping fellow artists out there too…and on top of that make additional profit for your company and get to create a line of figures you can be more free to design with. It seems to me to be a great win/win/win combination and I just had to give you a lot of thanks because I’ve faced a lot of major house and medical bills and painting the PYOs has helped me keep my head above water.
Thanks Melody!I gotta tell you, my jaw never left the floor when I saw the first Pyos done by you, and everyone… I am simply amazed at the superb quality of these paintings. (I honestly expected the worst! Mostly, because I have such trouble painting them!)
I am just delighted beyond words that they are selling for good money painted, this is just wonderful. You guys have fun, make money, and we don’t gotta paint the things!
The only big problem we are facing with these pyo’s is trying to figure out how to handle the problem of folks painting and reselling pieces that are too similar to the production Windstone paint jobs… It is a sticky problem. We don’t want to be going around saying “HEY you can’t do that!” But, what should we do? Any suggestions?I have one suggestion for this problem, it isnt a huge thing, but might prevent copying, but it will limit the company as well so it may not work:
Dont offer PYO in production pieces eye color. The only ones it will be really hard with is the dragons, but with the stone and eye you might be able too, just an idea. hmmm… interesting idea…If we had some other type of eyes to use…
