You certainly got a challenge! Good luck! I hope you fix er up nice!
What material are you going to repair her with? It would be neat if we could see her repairs step by step!
Pam Thompson wrote:Has this been talked about before? I didn’t realize that the PYO Ki-Rins had fangs. Why were they given fangs and the production family not? Was it inspired off of the Muntjak?
I had given the other Kirins fangs ,but removed them. I forget why, I guess because that would be one more thing to have to paint on them , and they were hard enough to do as it was. Here is the sketch I did before sculpting the female; http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/art/m/e/melodypena/kirin_product_sketches_ps.jpg.html -you can see she had nubby, but sharp, fangs.
Yes, the fangs were suggested by a muntjac! I also found many representations of dragonlike kirins with fangs(such as the plastic Kirin head that fits on the large Kirin beer container.) though I never saw any that were doelike with fangs.
Here is a pic of my muntjac skull. The fangs are large!
“Letters from Earth”
Things get named around here spontaneously. “Allas” was what the Pegasus print was called. Means “wings” in Spanish.
I hear so much bad stuff about people who breed Puggles for money, but I think they are beautiful, well balanced little dogs, and worth breeding. Are they really monsters, personality-wise?

Zelda wrote:Hi! I have a peacock oriental that I’m currently fixing up, but I’ve seen another that’s listed on Ebay, and realized something. The auction dragon looks distinctively glossy to me, while mine has a matte finish to it. Were orientals produced like the early dragons, where they had a matte finish at first and were then made to be more glossy at a later time? Thanks!
It ispossible that the older peacock Oriental is more matte, but it still should be on the glossy side, they are supposed to be somewhat glossy. There are two versions of peacock , bright and dark.

Also, are there any plans to eBay some OOAK or limited production male or female Ki-Rins with different paint jobs? Those are my favorite sculpts and there have been a few paint tests, but nothing for sale. I guess those top my wish-list Windstone dreams. 🙂 Just wondering!! The large pegasus is circling in a holding pattern. I haven’t worked on him for some time… I still am dithering whether it should be a pyo or a regular thing… hmmm…. anyway, you just gave me an idea about ooak kirins!

Okay, that settles it, she gets restored. I will do my very best for her. She’s so broken! 😥 I’ll take more photos, maybe this weekend, and you can see. Even in her current condition, though, she’s got a powerful force of personality. Her name is My Lady; the name hit me the moment I opened her box. I’d been resisting the urge to name her that, but there’s no question about it now. She deserves the honor.
It’s ironic that I bid on her simply because she was so broken, and I wanted very much to try restoring her. She has so many little chips and some major breaks; I figured she’d keep me happily occupied for months! Now I know she’ll keep me busy, because I want to see her whole again. And although I’d bid on her with the notion of repainting her, I don’t think I’d dare do that now. If I can match her original paint job, I will.
Hoo. Wow. (I may be repeating that for a few days!)I think she was painted with liqutex paint colors called Chrome green mixed with a color called Hooker’s green. The lighter green spots were achieved by wiping off the paint. I painted her myself. Deco brand gold pen can be used to touch up the gold.
Does she have a seam line down the back?Pam Thompson wrote:Dang, that girl’s older than I am! I suddenly feel very smallish in the world..
Mel, did you say original CLAY sculpture? I thought you made them out of clay, and then plaster? Are you meaning to tell me that the original family was all made entirely from soft clay?? If that be so, then you ARE a glutton for punishment! Yep.They were all in clay.I was just learning how to sculpt these! At first, I did all the details in soft clay (Water clay, no less). I started cleaning up the castings when we had to remove the seam lines, and figured out that it would be much better (though not faster, by any means)to put the detail into the gypsum casting instead. The details come out cleaner, and the sculpture can be sanded and buffed to a fine polish in gypsum. But it does take FOREVER to do. That is why I get out so few things.

Also, Melody, can Cafepress do bumper stickers? I’d love one, even with just the Windstone logo on it in gold, with a black background that says “Proud Windstone Forum Member” or “Proud Windstone Collector” I too will offer to make one in Adobe Illusttrator and if you like it, you can post them 😀 It will save you time and give me something fun to do!Oh my! I was thinking of bumper stickers, too!
