SO DM… were the Poads the great “secret” you were speaking of?
Or has that STILL not been revealed yet? π
You’re painting in acrylics right GB?
Are you using an Acrylic Medium to extend the “drying time” of your acrylics?
I find that when I work with Acrylics… I have to work really small… and blend and blend and blend… otherwise they get streaky…
Also… have you considered dry brushing as apposed go blending?
Hey Arlla….
how much would you charge for a Koi-Rin?
I know you’re hard up for money… but any chance maybe I could talk you into at least a partial trade? π I’d LOVE to have one of your Koi-Rins!!!! π
WOOT! YAY!!! Congrats!!!
Love that little bugger… he was the first piece that was ever given to me!!! π
GAH Lokie! that is GORGEOUS!!!
Maybe we can do a swap sometime… ::hee hee:: LOVERLY! Love the colors… love the blending…
AH!!!! too inspired to sit at work… and not be able to go home and paint to get it out of my system yet!!! π―

You are very welcome my friend! π Any time!
Blackdesertwind wrote:I did see her tutorial earlier this week. It’s great! I’ve also save her previous ones.
It’s just difficult for me to get started and the stores here in quebec or even Ontario, Canada don’t cary much. It’s ether too cheap or too expensive and nobody seems to know anything about the brand sold there. π
I will pst a question in your webshot tutorial later on.
Thank you for the info and sorry for all the questions I will be asking in the near future.
Hey no worries! Questions are always welcome as long as I can answer them! πI know it was tough for me to get started too….
Funny thing is… two of the fisrt horses I did in pastels… I worked FOREVER on… they were 30+ layers! Now… because I know what the colors do to one another…a nd I know HOW to get the color I want… I’ve got it down to about 10+ layers… saving LOTS of pastels!!! π
I REALLY REALYL want to paint you have no idea… I was finally able to start unpacking the model horses last night… which means my actual STUDIO is that much closer to being put together and ready to start operating again.
But you have NO idea how hard it is NOT to be able to go into my studio at night and paint… it’s just stressful!!!
Blackdesertwind wrote:Hi Ladybrooklyn,
π³ Sorry me again…
Where do you get your alpha colors pastels?
Can I get them online?[/i][/b]
Dick Blick SHOULD have them… as should Art Supply Warehouse…
I bought mine at a local art store that just closed it’s doors last year… so I don’t have anywhere LOCAL to get them… (Michael’s DOES NOT carry them GRRRR!!)
You should be able to find them online… Lemme see here…
Yup! Dick Blick carries Alphacolor!
http://www.dickblick.com/zz200/24/
And it looks like Art Supply Warehouse does not carry them. π
Now pastels aren’t for the faint of heart. π
You know you have to use clear acrylic sealer between EACH layer to seal it right? you can’t touch the PYO… or anything until it’s sealed or you’ll mess up your work. π
Now… Jennifer Danza (REALLY big in the model horse hobby) JUST put her “pastel basics” webpage back up… check this out… it can certainly help ya out if you’ve never pasteled before…
http://danzaanddanza.com/winter4.html
I do things a LITTLE bit differently than Jen Danza does… but she’s a good starting place! π That’s how I learned!
I use the cheep stuff… I haven’t actually gone out and bought more “expensive” pastels yet. π REALLY need to… but hey! I’m a starving artist!
They look like they’d be great…
Honestly… ANY pastels will work… they are right… the more expensive… the more “pure” pigment you are gouing to get… thus the better color… adn the better archivability (it’ll last longer as a work of art)…
but to get started… just find yourself some cheap stuff to play with. π
oh… and CHALK pastels… NOT OIL pastels. π
Blackdesertwind wrote:ladybrooklyn wrote:Well you know we get the BEST Sunsets in the world. π
Hi Ladybrooklyn,
Want to see my bset sunset taken from my place?
Go to the following link:http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2491438720048730416aXLKCX
WOW… now that is a sunset… VERY nice!!! π
SilverArrow wrote:Asinnamon, I had a couple of questions:
What do you use to grind down the chalk (a grater or something like that)?
Also, what do you use to apply the dust to the PYO with?
Thanks.
I just grind it down with the butt of a exacto knife… or whatever I have that I can use to crush them. π
And I use pastel brushes and just plain paintbrishes to apply my pastels… lemme go find a pic…
EDIT:
Here are my pastels…
And here’s what I use to apply them….
Notice the bottom smaller brushes are just your cheepy ones from Walmart… Michael’s… etc…
The top two are actually two sets of three sized brushes… I bought them from Dick-Blick I think… or Art Supply Warehouse… Lemme find a link…
::runs off again::
AH HA!! Art Supply Warehouse… that’s where I got them… here’s the link…
http://www.aswexpress.com/discount-art-supplies/online/1262/art-supplies/5
They are GREAT for large areas… but I still use the smaller ones for detail work… or nooks that I just can’t get in with the larger ones… π They blend REALLY well… love them to death. π
MAN I still need to do that pastel tutorial I promised… π― As SOON as my studio is back in working order (MAN I hate moving) I’ll pastel someone!!! π

HA HA HA!!! STATIC? I only have that problem at work and home… I think that it’s the carpet…
Though it is true… AZ is VERY dry… until the monsoon season… then you die because the air smothers you… π
I went to Hawaii (Kau’ai actually) for my cousin’s wedding… that was a totally different experience… always being wet. π almost worse than Michigan. π π π
lamortefille wrote:Melody. while we’re on the subject of poads, how about a mug with your signature picture on it? (don’t hit me lol)
HA! I’d buy one of those! it would be AWESOME!!! I love that Sig!!!! HA HA!
Honestly… I don’t have a preference either way!
Regardless of what color you come out with… I will be purchasing a PACK of Poads! I’ll mix and match and give as gifts! HA HA!
::does the happy dance:: OMG Melody this is soooo cool!!! I can’t wait to have the pack on my desk at work! These buggers will be everywhere I have a computer… one or two at work… and one or two at home!
So cool!!! So excited!!! ::SQUEELS!!!::
