I think with most test paints it’s not 100% out of the question – but the likelihood on something like koi becoming production/lp is fairly low. (In no small part right now due to the fact the pieces it looks best on can’t be made in large batches due to the horn issue). 🙂
After that – keep in mind that for production or LP to be possible, the piece would probably need a stencil OR for someone other than Melody to have the ability and the speed to paint them. The Ocelot Griffins are, I think, the most complex piece to make it into LP so far. Melody did the males and I think a production painter did the females/chicks (I think it was Jordan who no longer works there, but I can’t swear to it).
Grab bags are a bit of an exception – Melody has said before why she can do grab bags is because she doesn’t have to paint them any specific way. If a pattern doesn’t come out quite right or she gets tired of one thing and switches to another, that’s fine because they’re all supposed to be different. 🙂
If Brandi does a good job with the grab bag dragons, maybe there’s more of a chance of us seeing some complex LP patterns.
Resale value seems almost impossible to predict. Some things that were going for way over the original sales prices (like the original grab bag youngs) are now selling closer to their original store price due to newer grab bags being fancier. The second-hand price for even the fancy youngs is lower than some of those first batches were.
Old greens emps were selling regularly for $800-$1000 for a while, but those prices also seem to be coming down.
I guess my point is – things fluctuate so much and what’s popular varies from day to day so if you aren’t planning to sell and want to insure your collection or something, assume a higher replacement cost just in case.
If you are planning to sell and want a good price, watch the classifieds for people seeking the piece actively and how ebay rates are going and try to jump in when things are “up” (like before Christmas/after tax returns) rather than slower times.
This is just a general observation. Trying to decide if I overpaid for something often makes me crazy! LOL
Yes, they don’t pre-announce grab bags because it’s consistently brought the site down. The new method has worked MUCH better.
For the price, they just don’t know in advance. They usually set price the day of release based on how much time it took to paint them. It’s not really fair for us to ask them to hold off on bringing in money that’s important to the business so it’s more convenient for our planning.
Bottom line – if we have the money when a piece we want is released, we can buy it. If we don’t have the money, we’ll have to hope it’s in stock when we do have the money or wait or pick it up second hand.
Honestly, this is in NO WAY different than any other shop you purchase from. Almost all online retailers ONLY take credit cards and ONLY take payment immediately. Most places you can purchase from don’t offer a “grace” period for purchases so you can get the money together. 🙂 The process with MOs was a huge exception and they’re just aligning with industry standards by changing it.
While this certainly IS a change – this is much more in line with how most retailers operate and is going to save Windstone a ton of headaches and a lot of unpaid orders.
Realistically – without the ability to reserve products with MO and without people being able to watch the store for others, I think we’re less likely to see grab bags sell out so fast. A lot of people (myself included on occasion) would use an MO to hold a product until pay day or something. Now we have to pay up front so folks who can’t afford one won’t get one until they have money.
I also think this will lead to less scamming of the system.
It will take some adjusting to and certainly some of us will have to do some better planning around purchases (or sometimes miss a new product!), but ultimately I think it will be a much better system.
Hey Ms.Melody.I was wondering if there was any reason or rhyme why the males/stallions are rearing but the females/mares are laying down?
The mothers are really tired.
Truth.
Your collection looks wonderful, dragonmedley! 🙂 I have to keep mine cooped up together (and behind glass) to stay safe from dogs and boys – some day maybe I can spread them out more!
I suppose I should post photos some day – I have a lot of these guys now! LOL
I’m thinking someone snuck into the thread to match everyone’s wishes 🙂
Well… it helped that you all liked different ones… 😀
I’m going down to Albany next weekend probably (right next to Corvallis) – if I can talk someone into letting me into the factory, I’ll grab some then maybe.
You _might_ be able to talk Pam into doing it sooner – I think she takes chocolate as bribes. 🙂
Yes, I’ve also dealt with siege-loki and she has great communication and packs her pieces well. Good Luck! 🙂
I believe Seige-Loki is Wampusdragon, a long time forum member. She ships well and packs well. I’ve had a lot of transactions with her and no problems. 🙂
She also knows her Windstones and had a lot of special ebay pieces. 🙂
Happy happy birthday, Jen! 🙂

This one doesn’t look like an infringement to me either – did John get back you?
February 1, 2014 at 4:21 am in reply to: Looking to buy a camera – Need advice between 2 models #908307I believe both models are SLRs. The Rebel is actually, I think, the smaller/lighter of the two!
I have a Canon 40D (so a few years older than the 70D). Honestly, I don’t understand 99% of what it can do. The lenses are more important than the bodies for the most part, so unless someone makes a compelling argument to the contrary, you’ll be fine with the Rebel I think.
I do have several professional photographers as friends (very good ones) I can ask if you like.
Yeah, if you can handle the idea of busting up a production young to get a new horn, that’s probably the best bet.
I would also see about getting an estimate from drag0nfeathers or Kyrin for the repair and asking the seller to cover the costs to fix him.
I hope everyone gets a kitty they like!!!
