I’m 29, but I’ll be turning 30 in a few months.
As a child I admired the emerald and peacock lap dragons and mother dragons under a glass display case at a mall I frequented, but could never convince my parents to buy one for me.
My first Windstone was a peacock hatchling, (if I remember correctly), and I got it when I was maybe 17 or 18, but a family member chipped off the nose and then it was lost during a move. I’m stupidly hopeful at times that I will find it and be able to repair it myself, but it’s been quite some time now.
I’m now at a point where I might be able to adopt a few dragons (though I am tempted by a few other creatures). I’ve always loved dragons, and Melody’s have been my favorite style as far as sculptures go. I am glad to see there is a fan following of all ages. 😀
Oooo! Yay!!! CONGRATS!! I still haven’t got a lap… What color did you decide on?
tdm 🙂
A ruby lap. 🙂 Fire or ruby is what I wanted for my first, but I hope to eventually get a fire along with maybe a few others. I remember seeing lap and mother dragons most often while I was growing up behind glass cases in some shops, so those are probably the two sculpts I am most fond of.
Ah, I was beginning to wonder why some of the dragon sculpts (laps, for one) aren’t available anymore. (New person, here!)
I hope the issue will be fixed someday so I can fill my shelves with some. 😉
Hi! Welcome! And don’t forget to enter the monthly raffles and join in the quests… They’re a great way to add to your colection
twindragonsmum 🙂
I JUST saw about the raffles! I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for those. 😀
Aaaand, I’d like to announce that I just paid for my first lap dragon!
How much would a mint or close to mint red (not ruby) lap dragon be worth?
I don’t have one, but I’m trying to make a fair offer on one and I’m not really sure where to start since EBay doesn’t have any searchable in the sold/completed listings.
Welcome! You may not be able to stop at a few adoptions (these pets don’t need to be fed and watered every day!) – I’ve bought so many in the last year my friends are threatening to block ebay and Windstone Editions on my computer! The most important thing is to have FUN.
That is my concern — I know once I get started I may have to curb my adoptions! I’m going to try to only focus on a few dragons (though the foxes might be an exception!), though we’ll see!
Thanks for the welcome.
I have noticed that special pieces can be harder to resell than regular production, if you need to get your money back out. I think it is because they often appeal to a smaller group of potential buyers.
Interesting – I would have thought it would be the other way around. I’ve got some money to spare right now, but that is good to keep in mind.
Thanks again for all of the great advice!
I’ll be watching the auction like a hawk and hopefully I’ll get lucky. 🙂
Sure, no problem. Glad I could help. In cases like this one, it is good to ask because there have been a few cases where eyes have been switched out by people who liked a different color better. This is actually not one of those cases as there is a record of one sold like this and the seller has the COA.
At one point in time, I had made a sort of guide to tell the old green fakes from real old green dragons, but it long since got buried. I can re-create it if anyone is interested.
Also good to know. I didn’t even know it was possible to change out the eyes.
I’d love to see a guide, actually. I hope to snag an old green someday. 😉
As far as pricing goes, I know this is probably a difficult question since this dragon is one of a kind, but how does second-hand pricing usually trend? I’m assuming a regular red with the orange eyes would be less expensive?
Hello there!
I’m pretty sure this one is real. Here is the listing from the Ravnheart database from when she was originally sold on ebay:
http://ravnheart.com/windstone/index.php?act=details&id=924
Essentially, she’s a special variant of the Red Fire color. Red Fires typically have orange eyes, but this particular one was sold with blue eyes. It should be signed on the bottom by Melody and have a COA.
Also, it is being sold by a forum member that I’ve had several transactions with and can vouch for. I’m pretty sure this is the real deal.
Hopefully this helps
Thank you so much for the replies and feedback!
I am really enamored with her and just wanted to make sure she was the real deal – the fakes part of the forum spooked me a little.
