I’m on here pretty much all the time because my phone stays logged in. The only exceptions to that is when Im in an area with no service, otherwise here I am.
Once upon a very long while ago I only had about a dozen pieces, many that I had since I was a kid. Now I have several hundred. Addictive? Nahhhh. 😡
I knew you had to have quite the collection (I’ve seen photos here and there among the site) but several hundred? Wow! That’s awesome 🙂 I wish I started collecting when I was younger!
‘n I heard something about an unofficial chat?? I wouldn’t so much mind a link? ;p
January 30, 2012 at 10:51 pm in reply to: January Grab Bag Baby Unicorn – Post them as you get them! #871833Amy Jane! You got the first of the bunch (posted) that I really had my eye on! I didn’t realize there was purple on em too! *so pretty!*
‘n Melody! I think we’re all in love with these! I’m super excited to see what mine is, no shipping info yet.. maybe I’ll get one of the unseen ones XD – Not that I’m in a rush.. it’s gettin mailed to my house, and I’m at my bfs place for a couple weeks now (I didn’t think that one completely through, though I feel better that it isn’t in the hands on trusting people to get the right apt, lol), so when family gets it, they’re going to email me photos (I might make a special trip to go get it! lol)
I missed how hotdog came about.. But I lurked the oiling lizards part, I was laughing pretty good at that, that’s when I decided to make a LJ user account n join in on chat lol
OH YA I’m completely rediculous too. My husband just laughs at me and shakes his head. First thing I check once I get coffee in me in the morning. I always forget to log out to so it looks like I am on here 24/7.
Haha same way I am! I seem to always have a Windstone window open on the pc. Weekends at my bfs isn’t as active on here cause I spend the time w him, but I still check every now and again.. lol
I think you guys are awesome! n I can imagine this place has a pull that’s hard to leave for any period of time..
Yup! I can get chocolate. I cant get alcohol (or drugs, of course), but anything else is good. One of the Blackhawk guys found me some ritter sport chocolate from the German PX (we are on a NATO base) and I couldn’t believe it when he walked up and handed it to me. Geez, It was delicious! All is going well, I guess. It is cold as heck and I dont know if I mentioned this, but we crashed a bird a few days ago. Luckily no one died, but two SOldiers had to go home due to the seriousness of their injuries. Keep us in your thoughs, ladies! 🙂
Oh wow! Thank goodness noone was killed! That is seriously scary stuff..
So chocolate can be sent, now what would a fave kind be? 🙂 a brand or type? Mixed box chocolates? I personally love the Dove caramel chocolates, or mint chocolates! If it’s worth doin, it’s worth doin right! Lol
I offer as a thanks for what you’re doin (as mentioned before) n cause I would hope someone would do something like that for me if I were in your place. That’s awesome that someone gave you some chocolate! A hero among heros! Lol
I think the Windstone Addiction Center is going to need a bigger building at this rate!!!! O.o
Haha, no lie!
And please! Enable away 🙂
Thanks Branz! That storm sure did make me work for it! Chased it 15-20miles before gettin a good line up on it, then stood in a mosquito ridden field for 3hrs… I felt that one for Weeks, lol.
I have fun w it, in the summer it really is what I live for 🙂
If anyone wants to learn how to do night sPOhots, I’ll be happy to help where I can, they really are amazing. n it doesn’t require the hrs upon hrs dedication, I just can’t walk away until I know what I’m photographing has nothing left to give, it’s in my blood, lolAre you talking about Marimo Moss? They look like this:
http://www.aquariumplantsandsupplies.com/images/PL-MO11-06.jpg
I have some, and they’re pretty neat. They are actually a form of algae though, and can start shedding little ‘pups’ that grow on other things in the tank. So I took them out and have them in their own bowl on the kitchen table, as a live centerpiece. They’re very cool!
They’re pretty much the Tribbles of the plant kingdom if you have them in their ideal conditions. XD
BUT, in your 3-gal they might be really nice! Especially if they’re the only live plant in there. I really do love Marimo moss, just wanted to give you that heads up. 🙂 It’s an extremely low-maintenance plant and in your tank it shouldn’t ‘Tribble out’. 😉
Yep! Those!
I might get one for my tank and get one for it’s own bowl, that sounds pretty cool to have ’em tribble out (Tribbles was my first thought when I saw them, it’s so accurate! haha) XD My mom fell in love with em when she saw em, she wanted me to buy one on the spot but I couldn’t afford it at the time, lol. I really do think the prospect of one of these going into the tank is what made up her mind that she wanted to try the tank again XD That and looking at the fish at Petsmart when we were there.. we ogled a bunch of ’em that we really liked, looked at the guppies planning the next round with the tank! (We were thinkin after the gold got to her pond)… I think when I’m in a more stable house (Not traveling back and forth a lot) and after learning more, I’m going to get a larger tank (30-50gal)
haha, tricky lil monsters! ;p
I only have to worry about my dog putting her ball in my shoes… for some reason it used to be a game that her, and a couple of my moms dogs would do.. they’d drop it in, then it was like a *play by yourself* game to get it back out… if they didn’t succeed I’d find it when tryin to put m foot in my shoe! I quickly learned to check first! lol (Couple of the dogs were smaller dogs, so they had a smaller ball to play with… so it was easier to lose into the toe of shoes, lol)
If you still find you want a bottom feeder, a couple of otocinclus catfish would do okay. They stay tiny and they are a TRUE vegetarian algae eater. But they dont like to be alone, so you would need at least two. Im not sure you could find them at a petco or petsmart, but the little mom/pop store I used to work at had them ALL the time.
Thanks! If it assures I get the right fish, I will look and find a mom/pop type store to get them at, if need be! 🙂
You don’t need a super fancy camera to catch lighting, it just needs to have a manual setting ability 🙂 – You set the settings a certain way, tripod the camera and take long exposures 🙂
If you look at the treeline on your whirlwind lightning (Congrats on catching a bolt by hand, I tried that for years and never had any success! lol) – what happened was the cameras natural settings made it a longer exposure, so your movement was recorded. – Long exposures = The shutter stays open longer, and captures all of the light that comes through in that time and combines it into one image. – Ever take a photo indoors and have it get all blurry? That’s why!
But when the camera is on a tripod, it isn’t moving, and so long as your subject isn’t moving, you’ll get a nice crisp photo! 🙂Here are a couple of my faves from this last summer.
They’re photographed with my Sony a55 and I did study quite a bit on how to do them (And I found myself with a lot of trial and error shots!) – Point and shoots are fully capable of doing this! (I have some beautiful shots from my P&S camera of lightning, ‘n I relied on it for many years. Honest truth is, they can and do compete with basic DSLR cameras without the price tags!
A big trick is gettin them while they’re not right on top of you (When a storm is above you its difficult to know which way to point the camera! When it’s closer, but not right over you, you know which way to point the camera! 😉 lol) and standing in a full on lightning storm with your camera isn’t for the faint of heart… I get a rush off it, some may find it unsafe ;p hahaha.***There are links below each image to see the whole photo***
I need to work on color adjusting this one again (I had my white balance off, it’s been a work in progress to get the white balance where I wanted it since, lol)
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a153/XRavensIceX/ChasingDreams.jpgThese are taken once I started gettin an idea of what I was doing XD They remain some of the most exciting images I’ve created, in my personal opinion… I actually had hopes for a photographing a completely different storm than this (opposite direction, lol) I was disappointed to see it die off before it got close enough to properly photograph (and before it got dark enough to photograph easily. I’m still no good with day lightning, lol) I turned around ready to throw in the towel when I saw this one building in the distance behind me! and with Sunset colors *heart*! I spent the next 2 n a half hours standing in the middle of my country road photographing this storm. – So-worth-it! The early photos turned out to be the better of the batch, can’t beat the hints of orange!

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a153/XRavensIceX/BrightNightII.jpgand yes. Those white dots *are* stars 🙂
I can’t wait for spring/summer.. more storms to chase down! 🙂 My family and bf laugh at me, I hear the slightest rumble and I’m a two yr old in a toy store! Going to the window, watching for where it came from, debating on jumping in my truck and running it down… I’m also prone to haunting the weather reports XD
You guys are super awesome for all this info and support! We have agreed to try to get this tank up and going again.. we just can’t afford it right yet XD so now it’s running to keep the Algae eater goin ’till we decide what we want to do.
We were thinking guppies or something of that sort, my mom used to keep tanks long ago, she just never did goldfish, so that’s where the trouble with my girl came in at.. was all new ground for the bunch of us!So we’re gonna go back to what we know (knew? It’s been so long! lol), we were introduced to “Moss balls” I was going to research them more before thinking of putting one in the tank but were told they help the tank? (I don’t fully trust what this kid was sayin, I seemed to out-info him a bit at the store with the info Jennifer has been giving me XD lol) ‘n we weren’t planning on getting any more than 5 in there (total). We’re not sure if we’re going to keep the algae eater or find him a new home and look for something that may not have issues with smaller fish. I don’t know if this one would outgrow the tank, it stopped growing a couple months after we got it (It hit a growth spurt and stopped) but my worry is if it’ll leave the little ones alone or not.
I really want to say Thank You to all of you! This community here really is amazing 🙂
January 29, 2012 at 5:27 pm in reply to: POLL: GB Baby Unicorns colors (new option added Mar 13, re-vote!) #871657It would be cool to have a normal coloured but not normal patterned group. So no interference but crazy patterns, like tabby stripes, cuttlefish stripes, etc in normal browns and greys.
I’d like to see some babys or Youngs like this! (I still want to try my hand at getting a young XD lol) but I think it would be super awesome to have a batch of different wildlife ones in normal colors! My heart did flips when I saw the tiger ones in this current batch! ‘n my mind has gone wild with ideas before with this idea! – I’ve fawned over the Cuttlefish and Chipmunk unis that have hit the ebay store so darn much! haha
January 29, 2012 at 5:24 pm in reply to: The filling of the Grab Bag Baby Unicorn orders 1-26-12 #871656Melody is out there painting more of the little guys so that we’ll have enough to fill the orders, hopefully ALL of the orders including the ones that didn’t completely go through the system because of the lagging and the speed with which the little guys ran out of the store. I don’t know if there will be enough, but we’ll try.
Make sure my *Kisadork account isn’t one of those registering a partial order! I did have some issues with it, so it might show up with something but it did (obviously, lol) go through in the end!
‘n I’m with the group of telling Melody thank you! She’s super awesome working on more uni’s so the orders are fulfilled! She really does try hard to make sure no one is disappointed (Most any other collector anything I’m aware of would just had sent out emails saying they oversold and cancel the oversold orders) – Hell, Best Buy did it o.0
So I do hope there isn’t any complaining about the unis because of how hard she tries to make sure we’re all happy! In a big corporate world it’s sometimes hard to forget machines don’t make everything and that here there are real people (And awesome ones!) taking the blunt of those complaints, ‘n artists take them hard (At least from personal experience we do)Really love the color on this kirin. 🙂 Any chance of this becoming a production color?
I suspect that the special paint might be cost prohibitive to use on production items, but I don’t know for sure. If they do make them I’d have to find a way to get one. I really love that kirin!
If it made it to production, even an LP I would definitely try to get a Kirin like this! – ‘n I’d go completely gaga I think if it went on dragons XD (or if it has for ebay, it’s been before my time here and I haven’t stumbled into it’s photo yet)
