Any suggestions on brand or type of airbrush equipment to use? I’m totally new to airbrushing and am considering giving it a try. Have no idea the difference between the $30 airbrush kit you get at Michael’s vs. the $300 kit you get at a high end art supply store. And any preferences for the gravity style (paint jar on top of brush) vs. siphon style (paint jar on bottom of brush)?

Also, for the antiquing process, has anyone tried using thinner and doing a “wash”? We used to use that technique all the time on our tiny handpainted metal figurines for tabletop gaming (dude I’m such a geek 😳 ) rather than adding a thicker gel and then sponging the raised surfaces off. Making the paint really thin and then letting it run into the recesses did achieve a nice shading/detailing effect. Most of the time we didn’t need to sponge off the figurine because the paint was so thin, it would naturally run into the crevices. Anyone tried this? Are there unforeseen technical difficulties that make this an unwise approach?

Thank you for the welcomes 😀 I was so busy running around reading all the PYO and touch up and swap and sell stuff that I forgot to come back here and introduce myself 😳
My name is Jerusha. I grew up in Minnesota, lived in Chicago for a while, then in Oregon (my favorite hands-down!) and I’ve been in Scottsdale, Arizona (near Phoenix) for the past 7 years or so. I have two awesome daughters – one turned 5 in May and the other’ll be 3 in October. I also have two cats and (currently) a Moluccan cockatoo.
        Plus my Windstones:
Emperor, Spectral, Scratching, Male, Mother, Young, and Male Coiled, all in peacock. Plus the Inner Light dragon candle lamp. Many of which are for sale (check flea market and sale topics) so I can get some Rainbows-two of which are on their way (Lap and Young) so I guess they can be counted in my collection 😀 Once I get the Rising Spectral and Scratching in Rainbow I’ll be set (for a while – I’d also like a couple PYO dragons, and the cool trio dragon lamp, and the ivory inner light lamp. You know how it is…)

I saw my first Windstone dragons in a little kite and gift shop at Seaside Oregon back in ’94 or so and fell in love – they were the best representations of the western-style dragon I’d ever seen, but I couldn’t afford one at the time. Eventually I treated myself to my first – the Young in peacock – and for about three years he was the only one I had. He traveled with me, in my van cupholder, from Minnesota to Oregon to Chicago, has been my little travel guardian, and he remains my all time favorite!

It’s a pleasure to be here among like-minded folks. Thanks for having me :hi:

I emailed Susie myself about touch up paint for the same line (peacock – I have a mother too, with just a few flea bites I’d like to cover, and some gold rubbed off). She said Melody’s been busy lately but those of us looking for touch up paint from the factory might have better luck asking if anyone on the forum has extra they’d be willing to send or sell? ?!?!?

And if you want to get the Deco Art gold pen, Susie told me that’s exactly what they use at the factory (get the FINE point specifically – anything thicker is too broad, and the ultra-fine point has a piece of metal in the nib that will scratch your sculpts!) – but my local Michaels stores have said they’re discontinuing the line as of now – so grab it on clearance if you can (and maybe call your store/s ahead to make sure they still have them in stock).

Ok, I know I’m really new at this, but does stuff usually sell out like the hottest new concert in town? 😮 I guess I’ll email you again Susie and have you put me on a PYO waiting list so I don’t miss the next round!!

Please forgive me if I’m posting a question that’s already been answered.
I’ve gleaned TONS of helpful info on PYO dragons, and touching up our beloved Melody originals 🙂 especially thanks to the PYO forum.
But I have yet to receive a strong recommendation for any particular brand of sealing top coat. I only have dragons, so I need a top coat spray or brush-on that I can use to 1)touch up my flea-bitten originals without creating an uneven finish or having weird little spots that are too glossy or too matte,
and 2) to spray over a finished PYO to prevent flea bites, paint rubs and chips, will dry even and clear with a gloss similar to the WE originals, and runs no risk of yellowing (I know some that even have UV blocking protection to prevent sun fading). Can we get our grubby little hands on the same stuff our WE store-purchased originals have? If not, any suggestions on what’s commercially available that will have the same quality? I know Golden makes a spray on “archival varnish” that’s about 3x more expensive than Krylon, Valspar, etc – worth the price? any thoughts? 😕

PM’d you – would like an asking price on the Rainbow Lap?
I found the Rising Spectral on eBay but don’t see the Rainbow Lap there, which is the one I want MOST (please please).
                  Thanks!!!

Thanks for the input! I like the Emperor Dragon too, though for several years I made the mistake of displaying him on the highest shelf of my bookcase because he was too tall for anywhere else – and so he went underappreciated, because looking *up* at him you only see a whole lotta chest and a little chin 🙄 Now that I’ve learned to keep him low, I think he will enjoy more attention!

And I made a mistake on my first post and said I have the “coiled” dragon (mother with egg). What I *actually* have is the CURLED dragon in peacock (dragon curled around a crystal sphere). I edited my first post but just want to clarify.

Thanks for the heads-up on the lap dragon for sale. I’m only looking for it in Rainbow, is that what jackid has for sale?

Whatever doesn’t sell here will get posted on eBay in the next week or two.

I might just have to order the Rainbow Scratching, look at him next to my peacock scratcher, and decide from there whether to keep both or sell one 🙂

I’d love to have a full Rainbow Family but I don’t really get into the hatching dragons, so since I have limited $$$ resources I would get the Scratching for a dad, the Lap for a mom, I already have a Young on the way, and then a rainbow Toddler. It’s a perfect representation of my family (hubbie, me, and 2 little girls). I used to have the family with Male, Mother, Young, Toddler, and a hatching empress thrown in for good luck, but I like the poses, gold horns, and color vibrancy of the Scratching/Lap set much better. They just hadn’t made those guys yet when I collected my first family set (in the mid-late ’90s).

(My personal favorite remains the Young dragon. The Young peacock was my first Windstone ever, and sat in my van cupholder as I traveled and moved from Minnesota to Oregon to Chicago, back to Oregon, and on to Arizona. He’s been my little travel companion and guardian. He’s well traveled! 😀 )

Yada yada. Thanks for listening 😳

                      Greetings all:

Well I’ve thought long and hard about my dragon collection. I have a nice collection of carefully chosen Peacock dragons, all retired:
Male, Mother, Emperor, Spectral, Scratching, and Curled. Plus a Stone Inner Light dragon lamp.
I don’t have the funds to expand my collection, I want to come close as possible to breaking even. But I do want to change the colors up, while still keeping them somewhat matching, and I looooove the Rainbow color scheme!
                      So,

I’m definitely selling the Male and Mother dragons, as well as the stone candle lamp.

I’m *thinking* of selling the Curled, and maybe the Scratching also.

I’m accepting offers on any and all. They’re all in excellent condition with original packaging, except the Mother who has some flea bites and some of the gold paint has rubbed off. I am intending to touch her up and can send you before pics (if you catch me in the next day or two and want me to skip the repairs let me know) and if I do touch her up, after pics. Non – smoking home. No chips or repairs, though I did glue the dragon candle lamp eyes in because they kept popping out.

I have a Young Rainbow and Lap Rainbow on the way. I’d like to add the Rising Spectral Rainbow, but first —

I’m thinking of getting a Rainbow Scratching Dragon to go with the Lap. And I don’t want two of the same statue (I already have Scratching in peacock). On the other hand, of all my peacock dragons, the Scratching Dragon has my favorite version of that color scheme – the colors just seem so much more vibrant on the scratcher for some reason. I know the Spectrals, Scratchers and curled were made with more vibrant colors than the older peacock dragons like Male and Mother. I haven’t seen a Rainbow Scratching Dragon in person, so I don’t know how it compares to the peacock. Is it comparably just as bright?

So – opinions on which one YOU like better – Scratching Dragon in Peacock or in Rainbow? Should I sell my Peacock Scratcher in favor of the Rainbow Scratcher? Keep both (if I can afford to, that’s a no-brainer)? Is there another Rainbow Dragon out there that’s just so awesome I should drop everything and try to get that one? Thanks for your thoughts!

If you do put your Rainbow Lap up for sale, would you let me know? Of my whole entire wish list she’s at the very very top!!
I can be emailed at jerushadh@yahoo.com (I don’t know how often I’ll check the forum here).

I got *real* lucky and managed to snag the Rainbow Lap and Rainbow Rising Spectral I was hoping for! Would like an OW though.. maybe once some of my own stuff has sold. Other than that, just the couple candle lamps:
Ivory Inner Light Dragon Candle Lamp
                          Painted Trio Dragon Candle Lamp

And the PYO Keeper and PYO Dragon that I can paint in my bedroom palette! (Greens, pinks, creams, and gold highlights, with blue eyes and crystals!)

                            Greetings all,

I’m new to this forum and thought I’d give it a try. I’ve been slooowly gathering a collection over the years, and all my dragons are in the Peacock color (just plain Peacock, not emerald-peacock or anything).
I’d like to shake up the coloring a bit, but have pieces that will still go together.
So – I have a Male Peacock Dragon and a Mother Peacock Dragon up for grabs. Am looking to sell them, or trade them for the Lap Dragon in Rainbow. Also considering selling my Peacock Curled Dragon (torn on that one… money may tempt him away from me 😉

I also have the Inner Light Dragon Candle Lamp in Stone. I’d like to sell it, or trade it for the same lamp in Ivory.

My Male Dragon in Peacock is in excellent condition. He’s a little dusty, and a couple of the gold highlights have rubbed away a tiny bit, but other than that he’s perfect and comes with his original box and plastic bag.

My Mother Dragon in Peacock is in good condition. She has some spots where her paint has rubbed off, maybe 6 or so spots, each smaller than a pin head, and some of her gold highlights have rubbed off partially. Otherwise her condition is great. When I bought her, she was in a rectangular box with packing peanuts. I doubt that is the “original” packaging, but it’s what they gave me for her when I bought her mint from the gift store…

My Curled Dragon in Peacock is in excellent condition, with original box, and bag. No defects that I can find whatsoever.

My Inner Light Dragon Candle Lamp in Stone is in excellent condition. The red eye marbles kept falling out, so I glued them into place with clear super glue; that is the only modification. The piece comes with original box, plastic bag, and red votive holder. No wax or burn residue – this piece is in like-new condition.

All pieces are from a non-smoking home and have been display use only. Other than noted wear, none have any breaks, chips, or previous repairs. I’m happy to email pics upon request. I ship Priority and always double-box, with padding.

I am looking for excellent condition pieces with original packaging from non-smoking homes if you want to trade or sell me your Rainbow Scratching Dragon, Rainbow Rising Spectral, or Ivory Inner Light Candle Lamp.

Please email me at jerushadh@yahoo.com if interested, or send me a message here.

I live in Scottsdale, AZ (near Phoenix) so if you’re local we can meet; if not I’m happy to ship using PayPal for payment. Thanks!
