I am soooo not a pink person but I really like the flamingo dragon. I never realized before how much she does look like a flamingo. Awesome job!
I think I have bruises on my eyeballs from when they bugged out of my head when I saw the Pegasus behind the beardie. 😉 He looks amazing. But are his wings a little hard to cast? Is he nearly ready for production?
September 14, 2011 at 6:12 am in reply to: Looking for: People who have not yet gotten a Grab Bag Baby Unicorn #856469You are beyond wonderful. You definitely embody what I believe Melody envisioned when she conceived the grab bags. Thank you for bringing joy and good spirit back to the forum.
I’m sorry that I wasn’t clear as to which boxes I was talking about – I was referring to the outer shipping boxes ( the brown UPS and the white USPS boxes) not the boxes the Windstones are in. Although that does bring up that question as well. I keep those boxes in case I need to sell or trade a piece but I know a lot of people don’t. And the boxes with the cardboard inserts such as the lap, OW and emperor probably do cost money for Windstone to buy so I wonder if they would be interested in getting empty ones back. Unfortunately I had no idea it was so costly to send an empty box so it doesn’t sound as if sending those boxes is practical for people. I do wonder if sending even just the 2 or 3 smallest shipping boxes flattened out media mail would work (and be wanted).
Wow! He is awesome! I love African hunting dogs -they are so gorgeous. You did an amazing job transferring their markings to an unicorn. Are you sure you want to keep him? I would never tell! 😉
September 10, 2011 at 9:09 pm in reply to: The BIG Grab Bag Unicorn Selling, Buying and Trading Thread! #856085I would be interested in buying a bay foal with a white stripe down the face and white stockings – I.e. an unicorn foal that looks like a Clydesdale. Thanks.
But this wouldn’t be fair to people that don’t have Paypal or people that can’t send instant payments. My paypal account got hacked a couple of months ago, and it’s still a mess…I’ve been calling every day to both their customer service and my bank to get things straightened out and I’m still having problems. So I can only send e-checks right now, which take about a week to process. Or if I didn’t have a paypal account at all, but I have the money and need to send a money order, do I get left out of the pre-order??
It doesn’t seem as if my idea is going to fly but I was figuring however they accepted payment now would be acceptable for the preorders. I know they accept money orders – is there a time limit as to how soon a person has to send it? I guess I figured if a MO had to be there in, say two weeks then the same would apply for the preorders. If the payment didn’t arrive in a timely fashion then the order would be cancelled. Again I just want to point out that this is merely what I was thinking (when I was trying to figure out if it could even work) and it doesn’t appear as if the idea is at all practical for Windstone to adopt. My emphasis on payment in full was to distinguish it from suggestions in the past about possible preorders with down payments. I just thought that having payments in full would require a lot less tracking and paperwork Susie works hard enough now! I in no way was trying to be unfair to anyone in making the suggestion.
No hard feelings at all. I knew there were probably good reasons you weren’t already doing something similar but, to date, it is the only idea I had about the limit situation. I figured I would mention it and if nothing else it might give someone else a better idea.
As a way around this problem is have people pre order an item and pay for it in full. I’ll use the red panda flap cat as an example since they also seem to have been really popular (and since I am one of the people who didn’t manage to get one! 😉 When Windstone is ready to start making them they post a picture in the store or on the forum and state that on Sept. 2 orders for the flap cats will be accepted for 24 hours (or whatever time period they decide on.) On that day people can order AND PAY FOR however many flap cats they want. Then Windstone has 4 to 6 weeks to deliver the item. The reason for only doing preorders for a limited time is that Melody and the staff will know exactly how many of a limited edition to make and so they don’t end up with several hundred orders.
I realize this is not how Windstone has done business in the past and will totally understand if they think me completely nuts for suggesting it. But I have pre-ordered and pre-paid for art before and had to wait two to three months (and even longer) to get it.
I would think it would be a relatively easy system to implement. They could tell the computer they have an inventory of say 1000 red panda flap cats and then just generate mailing labels and receipts however they do now. One decision would be whether they ship all the items at once or ship them in batches of 10 or 20 as they get done. I think shipping all at once would be best.I’m only suggesting this for limited edition items or items that have proven to be so popular that they sell out in minutes. If there is some reason a large number can’t be made in a timely fashion (such as Melody is the only one that paints them) them they could still do a pre-order but let people know that time frame for delivering will depend on the total number sold. It might be that this system would only work for the larger, more expensive items. And I realize some people won’t want to pay for something they need to wait 6 weeks for. But I think a lot of people would be willing to pre-order Windstones. It would take the stress out of trying to be online at just the right time or of having to haunt the store. Just a thought.

People go through the same grieving stages when they loose a fur baby as when they loose a person. (Personally sometimes I think it can be worse – he was there for you every day with unconditional love.) all you can do is take it one hour at a time. We are here for you.
He is too cute! Looks like he has lots of personality. Congrats on the new family member and you did a wonderful thing giving him a home. Your husband is a sweetheart for falling in love with the little guy.
