Spoke with the seller and they admit they cannot prove it’s a Windstone and also cannot find more on it and said they’d change it to an ‘Unknown’. Apparently they got it with some actual Windstones from a person and just assumed. It happens. 🙂
Hey guys.
There is an eBay listing for a “Windstone” Hatching dragon I have never seen. It had 3 heads and I don’t think it’s Windstone but I have no idea what it is. Can’t find the exact thing on google.
Anyone know what it is?
eBay listing number is 382068942479
January 24, 2017 at 9:18 am in reply to: Reports of Fake & Knock-off Windstones and general infringements #1519329Hi all,
It has been suggested that I ask about a dragon I recently purchased here in Mexico (where I currently live) as it doesn’t have the felt bottom or a mark saying Windstone. The dragon was not being advertised as a Windstone and I didn’t buy it thinking it was a Windstone. I hadn’t even heard of Windstone until a couple days ago when I shared pictures on Facebook and someone asked if it was a Windstone and then I found my way here and the lovely people in the Identification thread suggested here.
And like I mentioned before, nothing on the base.
They do have other dragons they are selling that is this cast but different colors (recently they had a blue one and another silver one), but like I said they are not claiming they are Windstone or even suggesting it. No advertising or even mention of Windstone.
Let me know what you guys think, if anyone else should be told about it. I do so love it though.
I can’t give you a definitive answer, but this dragon appears to be fake, which is not unheard of.
Real windstones have glass eyes, Swarovski forehead jewels, a felt pad or stamp on the bottom with the Windstone logo, and they’re made of gypsum. Some areas of this dragon look odd to me. His snout seems misshapen and there are areas where the the details of the scales and feathers are sloppy and chunky.
I advise you to contact Windstone for an official confirmation, because I could be mistaken.
Here is the link with info and contact instructions about possible fakes/infringements.
The only thing this dragon seems to be missing is the stamp or felt bottom. I don’t know where you’re saying details are sloppy or chunky and I’m not sure about the snout. He’s currently not at hand so I can’t at this moment look closely at him.
I can send a message and ask about it. Not sure if anything legally can be done as I’m in Mexico which is where I bought it from. They are NOT selling them as Windstones.
Angelina, I think your dragon is a knockoff. The male dragon sculpt (which this is) has been copied quite a bit.
A photo of the base would be helpful. And John at Windstone might like to know where you got it!
Someone else mentioned it was a repaint. But I can’t scratch any of the paint off and like all of the males (I imagine as I’ve never heard of Windstone until yesterday), it has Pena 86 on it’s rear.
And like I mentioned before, nothing on the base.
I’ve been informed that the dragon I got recently is a Windstone. It does look like one, but I can’t find it anywhere and there are no marks on the base at all. Can anyone identify it? Could it be one of the Paint it yourself?
Thank you for any information guys!
