(but I’m pretty sure many of the links no longer work)Welcome back! 🙂
August 10, 2014 at 12:20 am in reply to: Amstaffs PYO Thread– "Fire and Ice" Kitsunes, finished pair #917318As others have said, it really does take a lot to clog these guys. Here’s a work in progress I did a while back. It might give you some ideas that you can tweak to your painting style.
And I rarely use the GAC 100 or 200 anymore. It’s the retarder I can’t live without. To me, it gives a wonderful soft fluid feel to the paint and allows me time to work the paint as I need. The more PYOs you paint, the more your technique will change to suit you and your own style. There is no one way to paint a Windstone.
He’s looking fabulous, btw. 🙂

Okay. That was my suspicion, though I didn’t know the exact reason why (the need to breath), so thank you. The DecoArt stuff is really cheap, at least, so even if I have to order it elsewhere it shouldn’t be too expensive, but I’ll also hope that maybe someone has some experience using these glazing mediums for antiquing and can chime in.
You can get the DecoArt staining medium from Amazon.com, Hobby Lobby, and I think JoAnn’s also carries it. I like its consistency for antiquing fur. When it comes to feathers, I use Golden’s retarder. I can’t live without that stuff. I use that more than anything. I have a bottle of Golden’s GAC 100 and GAC 200, but I rarely use it… mostly because I like the longer working time of the retarder.
Louisiana has waaaay too much humidity for a spray sealer. It does strange awful things to a paint job. I ONLY use a liquid varnish (Golden’s polymer varnish). I’ve had no problem using the mediums with the brush-on varnish. Actually, the DecoArt dries faster than the retarder. Just let it dry thoroughly before sealing.
So so sorry, Drag0n. Big hugs to you and your sister. Let her know that the forum sends their love and support.
I should have probably asked. I’m just assuming they are.
Thank you all so much! Your love and support means alot! <3
Very nice! Love the red… and your lines are nice and clean. 🙂
oooh, he is COOL!
One more… and I have been wanting to do this one for a long time!
This one is a complement to the warmer-colored kimono unis. Very bright, cool, crisp colors, with cherry blossoms. The teal mane and tail are much brighter with lots of interference (I HATE trying to photograph teal). I need to get better pics. >.<
She still needs all her gems, and I haven't decided if I'm adding the flowers to her neck like the other unis. I think she looks very clean without them…. but I will be putting her up for sale…. so if anyone is interested and wants to tweak her a bit before I seal her, PM me and let me know. 🙂
And another one… yes, I was really behind with my pic posting. LOL
This is a black and white kirin with silvery greys and a variety of interference paints on the scales. I tried and tried to get normal pics showing the interference paint, but as anyone who has tried photographing Windstones knows, that never works. LOL. I basically had to hold the poor thing upside down, sideways, and every which way just to get it to show up for my camera… so I just added little thumbnails. It was the best I could do. T.T
I’ve decided to put this one up for sale.
oooh, very astral/celestial looking. Very nice! 🙂
And I have finished my foo mom. She’s not the prettiest color combination, but she matches a tapestry I have. She stays with me. 🙂
I’ve learned two things about cheap eBay Windstones…
1. They are not usually described accurately.
2. The seller doesn’t realize their value and thus does not take precautions to ensure their safe travel.
