Would Windstones be ruined if they got soaked??
Yeppers. So even if they didn’t get burned, they would be ruined by the water that the firefighters use.
Oddly, my choice wouldn’t be my most expensive piece.
It would be my mother unicorn…..and if I had another free hand it would be my cat wizard.
Sorry if this is a stupid question… but, is there something special mixed in with the fire depts. water that would cause damage to a windstone? Or can they still be ruined after being soaked in just regular water?
Regular water can do it. Apparently gypsum absorbs water. So if you the base get soaked, special care should be taken to dry it out. We can wipe down most Windstones with a cloth and water because the paint and sealant protect it.
As for something mixed in the water by the fire department, I don’t know.
And there are no stupid questions. Better to ask and know than to remain silent and in the dark.
EDIT: See Nam’s response above. She is all knowing! 😀
They might seem off because that looks like a “bright” peacock. They are not as muted as the old peacock coloring with a lot of champane broze/gold. Quite a few laps have the bright coloring as well.
Oh, com’on Ski, baby bunnies are cute! 😀 (And if you ever try to catch them, just know that ther’re fast little suckers!)
Very pretty unicorn. I like the pearlesence.
That is wrong on so many levels.
It is just not right to re-make a lap like that!

Yes, congrats to you both! Now you have to decide where to put them! 😆

earthquake putty is used in museums to secure artifacts to shelves. I live in CA which is earthquake country. I got it at Home Depot. They make a gel also but I had a feeling that might include an oil of sorts and did not like the idea of ruining the felt pad with oil. It’s like silly putty and you break off a piece and mold it as you like and press it on the piece and put it on the shelf and it will then stay in place. When I get my glass display cases I used it on just about EVERYTHING I put in the case. It said on the label that all you should have to do is twist the item if you want to break the seal or you can cut thru it with fishing string. I do not think I would EVER try to use it again. It is very cheap also I think I got like 5 of them for like $20. I feel much better knowing that they are secure in the casesAnd it doesn’t ruin the felt pads? Interesting.
Good thing I live where there are no earthquakes. The stuff works really well. I haven’t used it on my Windstones yet, but it works well for attching little nick nacks to the top of my computer screen panel at work and the top of my cube. It’s like a rubber plastic. I think as long as you put it on the edges (where the painted gypsum is before the pad starts) it should work well. (This may be a boon to anyone who has cats who like to climb and knock off stuff.) Here is one type you can get:

It is also known as museum putty.Just don’t use this one:
It is a clear gel that is made for using on glass. I used it to secure my glass shelves to their rubber stoppers. The problem was that under any pressure, the stuff turns to a liquid and can drip. And it is messy to clean up. In all fairness, I did use it for purpose other than what is was made for (securing glass to glass/wood/metal) and it just didn’t work well for me.

Congrats!
Congrats on the win.
Congratulations! I love the gold outlining on the wings.
I have used Resolve (carpet cleaner) to remove smells from the felt pad. It works really well for that. As for cleaning I would use a little rubbing alcohol diluted in water (or put on a wet paper towel). Just make sure the bottle says 10%. There is a medical version that is 70%. If you use that thinking it is was 10% you’ll get the shock of your life. (So don’t do that.. 😉 )
