Hannah, so glad your favorite made it into your hands! Isn’t she a doll?

And TDM–LOVE all the copper on that one!

Sigh. They’re all so darn cute, I miss having one already–I need to either find some item someone wants to trade, or find one to buy outright. I even went scrounging today through several thrift stores & antique malls. Alas, no Windstones to feed my addiction. LOL

It’s great seeing people fall in love with the ones they get though! Melody put such amazing work into them all.

Welcome, and so sorry to hear you need to sell!

The Ravnheart link is a good start, but it’s now three years out of date. Some prices seem to have risen, and others seem to have dropped in that time. If you happen to have any eBay pieces later than 2009, or any Limited Production pieces later than that, they won’t typically be listed.

Searching ebay’s current completed listings for Windstones, noting especially those that have actually sold, *may* give you a more accurate range for your pieces.

It’s also not a bad idea to check the threads on the first couple of pages of the Flea Market, to see if anyone is looking for any of your specific pieces–they may have attached a price range they’re willing to buy in. Likewise, looking at what’s for sale may also be helpful.

    Best of luck to you!

Edit: have both lap & male thanks to some wonderful people on this forum!

    Hi all!

Probably a futile search, but I REALLY want a Copper Patina Lap Dragon. I’m working on a book right now, and as usual, characters are not cooperating. One turned into a copper colored dragon without my permission. LOL My husband asked, “Well, do you know what she looks like?”–that was easy, check Windstone and here she is! Now, of course, I want her on my desk for inspiration.

Second choice would be a Male Copper Patina (have a lead on this pending, but still in the market for the CP Lap), but the Lap Dragon’s pose fits this particular character’s attitude just perfectly.

If I get desperate enough, I’ll PYO a Keeper in a coppery-tone, but yeesh, I’m supposed to be writing about dragons, not spending time painting them. And I’m too much of a perfectionist to delude myself into thinking I wouldn’t spend eons on it. (Hey wait, it would be a great excuse not to have to work on writing…! Procrastination, thy name is Victoria.)

Can pay immediately if price is semi sorta reasonable.

    Thanks,
    Victoria

I’d definitely like to see some #2’s as well. It’s tough to lose out on (or watch a friend lose out on) a coveted piece. Just knowing whether or not there are others in the works might help people decide how best to bid as well.

(Although I know I personally hate making more than one of anything, so if that’s the case, I have zero right to fuss. LOL)

I’d love to see more indigo & pewter too, and the sunset lap was stunning!

LOL–I was figuring a “Warning, Windstones are known for becoming habit forming…”

They’re all gorgeous…but the shading on the little green one is exquisite. Can’t wait to see him finished!

Now that is one PINK dragon! 🙂 Beautiful job, as always!

This! Doing all the flowers out of silk took about four hours and cost less than a tenth of what real flowers would have cost. We made the center pieces out of cheap glass candle holders, marbles and silk flowers… and they were gorgeous at less than a dollar each.

    First off, congratulations!

And on flowers, ditto here. All mine were silk as well.

There were two sites I took advantage of when I got married (second time) five years ago. One was theknot.com–not for the advertising (which typically isn’t oriented towards the budget-minded bride, but for the forums–and one was craigslist.

From the local Knot brides, I found my venue, officiant, photographer (more on that later), seamstress for alterations, embroiderer for a couple of custom things, and ended up buying earrings and a bracelet that another bride had used as a significant discount. I found recs for things online, like silk flower petals. And I picked up a ton of ideas.

From craigslist came all the decorations, save for a few things bought at local craft stores. I found cast pedestals. I found floral urns, big ones, complete with silks in my wedding colors. These I partially redid with the help of 40% off floral deals at Michaels every few weeks. Centerpieces ended up being less than $10 per table–a gorgeous candleholder, on a beveled mirrored tile, surrounded by silk rose petals and candy kisses. All except the kisses (and our bouquets, also silk) were resold on craigslist after the wedding for what I’d paid or more–so net cost of decorations was close to free. Nowadays, craigslist isn’t quite as friendly as it used to be, so take care and bring a friend, preferably big and male, with you on any deals. When selling, arrange to meet someplace neutral, preferably with that same big male friend along. Don’t bring people into your home. It’s a shame, but that’s the way things have gone. It’s still a good place to find things, if you exercise some care.

If it’s a small wedding, consider printing your own invitations. There’s some amazing papers out there, and I was able to do something pretty fancy and layered for about a quarter the cost of having it done professionally. But it was a bit of a pain in the behind (I hate routine work and love to do one of a kind pieces, so they drove me a little nuts.)

Oh, and the dress (OK, all three dresses, because I couldn’t decide, LOL) were from ebay. Total for all three was under $500. None had been worn, all were either previous year designs or store samples or the final one I chose, which was a from an ebayer wholesaling from Hong Kong, IIRC.

As for peacock feathers–check the prices on local versus online first. Locally (at least here), feathers are often more expensive and poorer quality than what I can buy in bulk on etsy. (I do feather fascinators on occasion.) Ebay has some good sources for feathers, but some ship pretty poor quality stuff, so check their feedback and don’t necessarily go with the lowest cost–or you’ll end up with a bunch of feathers too ugly to use. If doing centerpieces that use marbles, they’re available in all colors, so a mix of peacock colors would be stunning. Again, check prices online before buying locally. Often you can get a better deal buying in bulk online.

(And regarding wedding photography: mini rant here. Pull from other parts of your budget to get a GOOD one, the absolute best you can afford. If you do videography, you might watch it once or twice, but that’s it. Photos, on the other hand, you’ll want to put up on the wall, have an album, gift to family (or they may purchase), etc. If I could change ONE thing, I’d have doubled my photography budget and cut from somewhere else, or sold some things off. It’s just too important, and I still kick myself regularly on that one. I actually did wedding photography for a couple of years after that, apprenticed to an outstanding photographer, and let me tell you, it’s a tough gig. A good wedding photographer is worth his or her weight in gold, even at todays prices!)

I got mine! She’s so sweet, all pink and purple with the monarch butterfly markings.

I love them all…but oooh, this one is gorgeous and so me!

Aaaarrrggghhhh…Melody, PLEASE paint another batch of these guys, quick. They’re all just too wonderful!

I am biting my nails hoping nobody gets one they hate!

If they do, there are some of us who love almost every single one. There’ll be a good home for each of them.

The more I look at the class photo, the more I want another one!

in reply to: POLL: What do you want to see restocked? #871738

Silver Hatching Empress (yeah, I know, probably not happening)

Blue Pearl, Autumn Leaf, and Nurmeg curlies

    PYO Keepers

Next round of GB whatevers–I’m not picky which sculpt, though the baby unis with normal colors and animal prints discussed in the other thread would be fun!

One I just saw in the eBay completed listings from a few months back has me intrigued: Carnival.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=300619527849

Kind of like a rainbow for those who like less primary, more muted tones.

And that copper serpentine is gorgeous!

OF COURSE the first one that someone gets is the ONLY one that I really wanted XD

    i… hate my luck.

Aw, Hannah, I’m sorry. *hugs* And she’s already claimed too; as much as I love her, I’d worked a deal with someone to get that copper lap I so desperately want–and that person wanted this particular uni very much too.

That’s the tough part about these GBs. It’s a gamble.

I will say–she wasn’t on my top ten, but neither the webcast nor the class photo are adequate to show just how amazing these babies really are. If I were able to keep her, I’d completely and totally fall in love with her, and she wasn’t even on my radar before she arrived. In fact, it took me a long while of hunting to find her in the class pic. I suspect we’re going to have a lot of people going “wait, I didn’t think I’d like that one but now that it’s here…!”

Melody did an outstanding job. They’re just gorgeous.

Well, I’m up in Washington state and managed to get in one of the first few orders, so mine shipped yesterday. And while the Post Office said delivery would be Monday, instead, she arrived today! *squee!*

Putting up one semi decent iPhone pic for now; she’s a lot more vivid in person than this makes out.

in reply to: The filling of the Grab Bag Baby Unicorn orders 1-26-12 #871466

This explains why I couldn’t even load the site on my computer. I got tired of waiting for the page to load and gave up on getting a unicorn. Kinda bums me out because I would have liked to get one of these guys. Never got a single GB uni to date.
It’s cool, though. I’ll just buy more PYOs with the money I would have spent on a gb uni. I know it may mot be a lot for some collectors – and not that they aren’t worth it – but 98 dollars for something I don’t know if I even going to like is a lot for me. I give up on the whole GB thing.

It’s a tossup for me. It’s more than I would have preferred to spend. There are two in this batch I’d be overjoyed to have. There are half a dozen more that I’d love to claim. The rest are cool, but I can take them or leave them.

But I went after one KNOWING there was an extremely high likelihood, at those odds, that what I was buying was really trading fodder (in fact, it’s probably already a committed part of a deal for something I want badly, barring a miracle delivery of one I just can’t bear to part with). And I’m OK with that. Yes, at some point, I want a OOAK from Melody’s hands, but if it’s not from this batch, it’ll happen eventually. And in the meantime, if this one isn’t a keeper for me, I can easily turn it into something I like better or want more.

Also, PT, given your amazing PYO work, I’d bet you could easily work a trade for a GB or two. You’ve got a terrific talent.
