I am going to have to start painting the frogs outside if there isnt some keepers and dragons to paint soon 😉 Wonder if acrylics will stick to those slimey little buggers….hmmmm. Wonder how a purple corgi would look O.o

The corgi ought to be easy; food coloring. Or Easter egg dye. 😀

As for the frogs…wonder if frog slime acts as a drying retarder for the acrylic paint? I’d imagine blending could be somewhat problematic. And of course, holding the little nuisances still long enough to do any detail work is the real issue… LOL

Obviously…I’d squeak for small dragons and Keepers too, plus I have a friend who wants me to duplicate my recent KiRin for her. So, yes, more PYOs please!

(And I can’t wait on the GB unis, but I’m going to sit on my hands and zip my mouth rather than ask for details or an approximate date so as to not stress out the Windstone crew. I’m being good, Melody, really. I’m trying!)

It just blows my mind that he wasn’t at all concerned. Not even the least bit–not even enough to have the self preservation to realize the likely reaction of the base police? That sounds like alcohol, drugs, or some kind of mental issue going on. Any of those will help get you full custody, that’s for sure! Something is really, really wrong with that man, and I agree with others that this should be the end of unsupervised visits.

Hopefully the base police can help you contact that lady. She definitely deserves a huge thank you.

As with others, I can’t publicly say what your ex deserves… *shakes head*

Well Jolie…….from just looking at the pictures I would have never guessed that he gave you the difficulties that he did. He really does look great!!!

    I totally understand the “Try this…..nope…….rework that……..
maybe……hum what should I do now” HEHE

I did that a lot and I think for all you went through you did a brilliant job. HE really looks like you fully intended each and every detail right from the get go.

    GREAT JOB!! 🙂 🙂

Thanks–he really was a pain in the you know what, but I think the antiquing was the worst of it. I definitely need to figure out the problem between my paint and the DecoArt medium before I tackle the next one. And of course, choose the right color to antique with. LOL

I *am* looking forward to dragons being back in stock, but shudder to think about what THEY’LL teach me! 😉

Bodine, that Lightning Phoenix is amazing! And I love the mix of them all–now I have a better idea of sizes in comparison to each other. LOL

I’m really starting to love the pebble foxes. I hope Melody figures out the issue with the red fox soon–I really want one. And I hope we get a dark colored wolf as well…

Just two new additions here, both PYOs I did in the last couple of weeks. I’m SO ready for the next grab bag of anything to come out! The stuff I’ve liked best on ebay lately has been way out of my price range…

He turned out quite nice >.< Matches that geode he is standing on really well too!

It’s a running joke around here that I love rocks. Fossils, geodes, whatever. We have a two-man piece of petrified wood in the yard that the previous owner left because he couldn’t move it. I told my husband it’s coming with us when WE move–I don’t care if I have to hire professionals! LOL

Second PYO is complete, and he’ll likely be the last for a bit as I have some medical stuff coming up starting this week that may keep me from doing this kind of work. Besides, after this one, I have a TON of stuff to catch up on.

    Meet Doctor Who, the griffin:

So the name–no, I’m not a huge fan of the Doctor; I barely watch TV at all except for baseball. But let me tell you, this little guy is a freaking Time Lord. For the last four days, I’ve sat in positions I can’t normally hold for long, forgotten more meals than I’ve eaten, can’t remember conversations I’ve had or ball games I listened to. I haven’t escaped him even when I sleep–I’ve been dreaming of paint I can’t find, brushes I’ve unexpectedly lost, etc. I can’t tell you how many times I’d look up and go, “Wait, it’s 4 PM already? I just sat down and it was right after breakfast!” Time just didn’t pass normally while working on him.

And for those of you who ARE fans–he went through several incarnations as I either decided to change paint schemes or a technique went awry or I realized I was out of a specific paint color! LOL So the name does somewhat fit.

Reality-wise: His upper half is based on the jackal buzzard of South Africa. I was hunting for hawk and eagle pics online and came across one, then started pulling down more of them until I had enough to work with. I had to take some liberties in terms of pattern, and I really wanted the gold eyes (these guys occasionally have copper, but they’re usually brown). But for the most part, I think if you look up the bird, you’ll see where it came from. There’s a fair amount of very subtle metallics brushed into the all black feathers to add a little more depth and texture to them–the birds tend to be mostly more dark grey than black, and often have a few hints of white or the rusty red peeking through.

Problems: Oh dear lord. Well, I learned a lot. I think I need better/newer paint–I’m losing too much detail even with the thinnest coats. And something’s still not working right with the antiquing. The DecoArt bottle is brand new, and has the right consistency (thick gel), but no matter what paint I mix it with, I end up with something that applies more like a watery acrylic. Add in that I just couldn’t decide what to antique with–went way too dark and too brown, he ended up muddy looking. He took a lot of reworking to make him liveable, and he still looks a bit dirty.

His lower half, for example, was supposed to be a lion…yeah. No. Could not get that to look right, hence the black panther look (with a whitish belly) he’s now sporting. I did highlight the musculature and tail with very very tiny drybrushed bits of gold paint on the raised surfaces, and a pearlized black on the indented ones, which makes the overall black a little less bland. But there’s so many layers on there, I lost way too much detail. Live and learn.

All in all, he probably came out better than I deserved, considering how many times I changed my mind about how to tackle him! (But man, I’m glad he’s done. I need a break after him!)

Thanks all–compliments from the crew here mean a great deal!

Great Job he looks fantastic. I hope you loved painting it and found a lot of personal satisfaction in it. I totally get what your saying about “seeing all the flaws”. I do the same thing with mine and I just notice all the little things wrong instead of seeing all of the beauty! You really did a nice job! 🙂

I did enjoy it, and it’s nice to have a project that’s COMPLETE in just a few days. My other major project is about to hit the six month mark with no end in sight, so the not-quite-but-almost immediate satisfaction of getting this done left me with a sense of accomplishment. LOL

The griffin’s going to take a while longer though, I think. I’ve already changed designs several times…

I met my “practice” husband on April Fools’ Day.

    In Death Valley.

    No, I’m not kidding.

And yes, it ultimately turned out about how you’d expect from a beginning like that. Never ignore really, really blatant omens. LOL That was an expensive lesson to learn.

Can’t think of any others at the moment because the memory of that one tends to override the rest, but I know I’ve been involved in a couple. Nothing like Kiya’s though, that’s hysterical!

in reply to: Classified Ads are OPEN! (IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!) #877518

Can a seller modify their ad after they post it? If so, you don’t need comments – if you get a question multiple times, just update the ad.

If not, then comments might make sense.

Also, if you DID add comments, would there be a notification that one had been made? Otherwise, a seller might get accused of ignoring someone when they just didn’t go look at their ad again to see someone had asked a question.

I’m not in favor of comments, I don’t really see a purpose for them, but that’s really up to Pam and Windstone. 🙂

It would definitely require some sort of notification to the seller when a question is posted, you’re right.

Just something to think about: Without naming names, I’ve seen one ad bumped by the seller several times that has a number of apparently unanswered questions in it. In this case, it’s pretty clear the seller has at least had an opportunity to see the thread has had replies, so it’s unlikely those questions were missed. Maybe the seller did answer those questions offline; I have no way to know–but I remember noting the last time I saw it bumped that some of the items referenced are still for sale, and the ad has not been updated to include those answers.

What I perceive from this–rightly or wrongly–is that either the seller isn’t very responsive, or there’s a reason he/she doesn’t want those very basic questions answered publicly. Either way, this is not a seller I’m willing to do business on a strictly trust basis with.

Maybe that’s just me. But having those comments available gives me a potential feel for whether or not I want to deal with a given person. As we don’t have a feedback method that’s consistently used for every transaction, having comments available gives me at least some additional data to go by, especially when the seller isn’t a regular here.

My .02 worth. I’m fine with whatever is decided, but if it were up for a vote, I’d vote for non bumping comments to be allowed.

Only took a quick look with the iPad so far, but I’d say yes to adding comments *as long as they didn’t bump the ad*. Reason? I find a lot of times that people leave out critical information–or at least, critical to some, like tags/boxes, or shipping charges, etc. It’s helpful to be able to ask those questions and have them answered publicly so that everyone can see them.

in reply to: Photos of new and "camera shy" Windstones #877504

Not me. I like the black and silver contrast. The original silvers are beautiful, but a little to monochromatic for my taste.

Same here–I might not have noticed before, but having them side by side like that just really makes the higher contrast one stand out.

thank you guys 😀 I’m really happy you like them 😀

I am working on moving away from brown and red eye colors 😉 lol

    LOL!

The lightning one is just gorgeous–nice to see a more rainbow-y variant on that theme. Beautiful work!

(now if only we’d get more keepers and small dragons in stock for you to work with…)

in reply to: Price Check on Flion, and a few other retired WIndstone #877418

The five Flions most recently on eBay ranged from $59 to $132.

    http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=windstone+flion&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc

Note that 3 of the 5 went for well under $100, and only the most recent sale lists NO damage. The $59 one only says very good condition with no details on paint or felt issues.

So I’d say prices are all over the map for that one, and while a price over $100 is definitely possible, they’re not *that* hard to find at under $100 either.

in reply to: 2012 Windstone eBay AUCTIONS #876922

I love the ivory–emps end up out of my price range, but there are other pieces I might chase in that scheme. I usually like my Windstones to look like they’re about to get up and move, but that look is really really elegant.

in reply to: Pyo keeper and dragon restock? #876851

BuMp….. with almost everything outta stock in the PYO area… fair warning… you’re going to have a ton of artist going through withdrawls and I am one of them…..LOL

Its going to come down to “I GOTTA PAINT SOMETHING AND THE CATS WON’T SIT STILL!!!!!!” 😉 😛

*eyes black cats and wonders how interference would look on them…*

In all seriousness, I’m past ready for these guys too. I didn’t take any of the small batch of Keepers released a few weeks back, because I felt our experienced artists deserved first chance at them. But I’m starting to get antsy about perhaps painting a few of my own. Any vague ideas on release or info on issues delaying them would be welcome!

So now that there’s more than just two…

Here’s Allestra (lap), her brother who refuses to give me his name, Mignonne the GB Poad (don’t look at me, Allestra named her because it’s close to Minion and reminds her of steak), and the newest member of the household, Ciaran the black gold curlie. I know, I said I was getting the color shift one and even ordered it–thankfully Susie was kind enough to swap out when I hit buyer’s remorse. LOL

And yes, the CP Male has a tiny voodoo doll sitting on his claws. I walked in the other day and found it there. My husband claims he felt sorry for the dragon because Allestra gets all the attention. I think we need to up that boy’s meds…

I finally got around to digging in the boxes in the basement a few weeks ago, hunting for my original 20+ year old Siamese Flap Cat. All this time, I just couldn’t remember whether I had the bird wing or the bat wing–well, now I know why. At some point that I cannot remember, I bought the second one too!

The black batwing is from ebay recently–one of the few to come up in the last few weeks without a mark on her–and is in honor of my tuxedo cats. Next to her is one of Melody’s Stray Cat Edition tabbies, Bluebell. She looks very much like one of the cats we lost a few years ago. I know her previous owner (who’s on here sometimes) hated to part with her, but she came to a home that is very grateful to have her.

(Yes, that’s a fish fossil behind them. Hubby wanted them there, go figure.)

Unfortunately, hubby is also now calling a Windstone timeout since most of this crew showed up since the first of the year (and he hasn’t even noticed Bluebell yet, LOL). Any Windstones that enter the house in the next couple of months are going to have to be small enough to hide among the clutter easily.

Or maybe I’ll try the, “Oh, that? Found it in the basement,” trick. Any other ideas you guys have used? 🙂
