Waitin for foos ^_^
And Keepers. π
Oooh! Those rock dragons are fabulous!!!! Really love them painted in patterns! And they do look like they’re eyeing each other a little suspiciously, don’t they? π
If there’s something specific you’re looking for, let me know. I have no idea what’s lying around the house at the moment, but I know we’ve had some interesting MTG things in the past, so I’ll dig around this week & see. We’ve given some stuff to close friends as well in the last year though, so I’m not sure what’s here & what isn’t anymore (which is the same with my Lego sets, hubby’s militaria, half my crafting stuff, some D&D figs [the two Colossal Red Dragons aren’t going anywhere though!], a zillion of the WizKids’ collectible Pirates card game ships, various cameras & lenses, you name it…). Like everyone else it seems, we’re clearing tons of stuff out in all categories, and that would certainly be one of them. Somehow though, I swear it all just multiplies at night no matter how much I get rid of! Hubby’s hiding the antique silver right now, I think, afraid I’ll smuggle it out of the house for the melt value–nowadays, that’s not a bad idea. LOL
Sorry, drag0n, no black lotus here either. I did ask (knowing the answer), because hey–pay down the mortgage! I haven’t seen my husband laugh that hard in a while. π
Being a collector of a number of things, I’m always happiest when stuff goes to a new home that really wants it, so I’ll certainly take a look around and see what we have.
I was making a list with each card and condition, but I got bored with it =(
I hear ya. I need to inventory a lot of things, but five minutes into it, I’m done. Too often, I just want to go, here’s a high res pic, you tell me if you want the whole lot of the stuff or not! Not the best way to sell stuff (and a bad way to know what you have for insurance purposes), but it can be so much work.
For some reason, the first word that comes to mind on the Phoenix is “silky”. That sheen on the feathers makes me want to reach out and pet it! π Lovely blend of very tranquil colors.
Plague’s final shots–
He’s been done for about a week, I’ve just been lazy about actually getting the *good* pics pulled from the camera. His commissioner is very pleased…and my husband may actually miss this one once he ships out!
Quick details:
Paint: base coat, Winsor & Newton Galeria, Titanium White; antiquing, W&N mix of Mars Black and a smidge of Burnt Umber. Everything else, Sargent’s Liquid Metal. NO interference used on this one. The Liquid Metal was a so-so paint in my opinion–used with a hand brush, it regularly became blotchy & uneven. Some colors–such as the gold–never did even out in places with 20 thin coats. At that point, I surrendered! It also took very long drying times & smudged off easily when handled during those times. I finally had to let it dry for 4-5 days each time before doing the next bit. Perhaps it’s better with an airbrush; I know a few people here use it. Colors mixed well with each other and with the W&N paints.
Clear coat: 4 coats of DuraClear Gloss, hand applied.
Eyes: Tohickon Metallic Gold. In a word, AWESOME.
Forehead gem: Windstone-provided Swarovski Topaz
Tail gem: 5mm Swarovski Rivoli cut in the color “Volcano”, purchased via etsy. LOVE LOVE LOVE this cut and color. (Well, and any rivoli-cut gems. That cut is just stunning, and there’s so many fun colors. Just wish you could get a mixed bag instead of 12 of one color!)
And dang, this PYO has more darn crevices I can’t easily get into than any other I’ve done so far!
Just a few pics here–the rest will be in the PYO gallery once approved.

“What do you mean, attitude problem?”:
(FYI–after a lot of experimenting, I’ve discovered that Photobucket strips out any color space instructions from your pics when you upload them. On some monitors and in some operating systems (Windows), the colors may still look correct. On Macs, forget it–it bleaches all color and contrast from your images. I’ve given up and moved to Flickr for all photo hosting at this point, so colors on these for most people should be more or less true to the originals and close to his real shades. He’s a bit darker when viewed indoors.)
Photoshop can be a pain in the you know what! I’m too lazy to spend time detailing out a design like that–by the time I finished with it in Photoshop, I’d be completely done with it in my head and want to move on to something else. π
It’s funny you should bring up red arowanas–I’ve always loved the silver ones, never kept them though; my ex worked in a fish store and I fell in love with a big one there. I only learned about the red ones (and all the other variations that you can now find) in the last few months while hunting for scale patterns and colors for dragons & KiRins. I have a whole batch of red arowana pics downloaded to the ipad for reference for the KiRin I’ve been thinking about most recently. (and a bunch of Betta pics for later use, LOL)
Love your latest design, it looks like it will transfer very well to the small dragon!
Looks terrific! Not going to antique him at all? I could almost see doing a grayish brown to look like the aged cedar of a totem pole. Either way though, what a challenge to paint–you pulled it off very well.
June 23, 2012 at 1:12 am in reply to: I know this is bad….but does anyone else "hide" Windstones from their significant other????? #882279Oh heck yes–several have snuck in. Others, hubby knows about, but doesn’t know the price tag. Some come in boldly–mostly the PYOs. For some damn reason, those are OK, so long as I’m buying unpainted pieces & painting them up. Then I suppose “it’s a hobby”. That little “hobby” has probably cost as much in paint, supplies, and PYO blanks as all the other Windstones…but somehow that’s fine. *rolls eyes*
He likes them. He appreciates the work that’s gone into them and the artistry. He actually plays a little with the two CPs on my desk–Allestra sometimes has something different in the curve of her tail, and the CP Male has a tiny handmade voodoo doll between his front claws. (“She always gets all the goodies, I figured he should have something of his own,” was the reasoning…if you can call it that.) It’s the price tags he chokes on, and the fact that we really need to be downsizing, not adding to the clutter.
Since I’m spending my own money, there’s a certain “I can do what I want” attitude going on here, that’s for certain. He has plenty of things I wouldn’t spend a dime for as well. As others have said though, part of being a grownup in a real relationship is that you DO have to learn to compromise, and that does mean certain sacrifices. So several thousand dollars worth of eBay test paints have been coveted in the last six months, but not purchased. Things have come and gone through the store and the classifieds that I’ve passed up. That’s just part of marriage.
Thankfully, my resident house male does NOT have a photographic memory–far from it. So smaller pieces have come in, gone into my office curio, and he’s never noticed a thing. He stares right at things (not just Windstones) and doesn’t really “see” them. In fact, I was just thinking I could smuggle another curlie in soon… LOL I kinda tend to doubt that trick would work with a Secret Keeper though!
What a GORGEOUS phoenix! And making the rock a chunk of turquoise really balances the whole look.
Your parrot-griffin designs never fail to amaze me. I sure hope you grabbed a griffin or two from the latest available batch?
June 11, 2012 at 10:15 pm in reply to: Serenity's PYO's NEW dragon WIP Wolf 7/3/12 more pics #881664I think it’s a great idea! I’ve often thought dragons had chameleon tendencies–that they could blend to match any environment. Obviously yours has been hiding in someone’s tie dyed shirt! π
Fall should be fine here too, as long as I have a decent amount of notice. September’s got medical stuff and October has a week long trip, so I’ll have to fit it in between. But that *should* be doable..
drag0nfeathers you are a lucky man to have this lovely baby griffin bengal π Love them !
Actually drag0n is a lucky lady! π
HAHA! I am quite manly though ^_^ *puffs out chest and yells* THIS IS SPARTA!!!
*spits tea all over iPad*
LMAO!!!!
Seriously, though, drag0n, wonderful griffin collection! They’re all just gorgeous.
Hopefully Melody will do some of the mamas to match the recent males she’s done.
Tried a search, but wasn’t coming up with anything useful–has anyone tried using gems on the Ki-Rin’s tail? That last curve on the display side closest to the hooves is just itching to be filled. Unfortunately, all I have on hand right now are the 3mm gems from the small dragons, and those are just a tad too big.
If anyone has smaller gems lying around & can try it, I’d appreciate it so I don’t order the wrong size! π And if anyone has other spots on the Ki-Rin they’ve filled, I’d love to see a pic.
And a followup question as I just opened etsy to look at the smaller gem sizes–does anyone use flat backs, for any of the sizes? Pros/cons/things to think about size-wise?
I wanted to share some pics of the Serval Hawk Griffin because he’s so gorgeous, and I remember reading that someone else wanted pics of the griffins on eBay recently. I hope I put this in the right place.
If anyone else has one of these lovely griffins, or anything else for that matter, please share photos, I’d love to see. I especially liked the Ornate Hawk Eagle one too.
I totally blew my Windstone budget for the year on this, but it was completely worth it. π
*sigh*
*pets screen*
I honestly think–setting aside my copper lap, and the labradorite pieces that were so far out of my reach it’s almost comical–this is probably my favorite all time Windstone. I probably looked at that auction every half hour while it was up. There was just NO way to make it happen–it wasn’t hard to predict where he’d end up at price-wise, and that just wasn’t doable at that time.
Having said that–congrats! I’m happy he went to someone who obviously wanted him a LOT, and to someone here on the forum makes it even better. π
