As I have zero idea if Melody has stated she is making a qilin and said it’ll sort of look like “xyz” (sorry Melody!), I’m only talking about mythology. Oh, and I totally apologize if I get my facts wrong, it’s been forever since I did my research and I’m not calling anyone out, just sharing info I loved as a child.
The kirin and qilin are the same creature, location mainly being the reason for the difference, Kirin for the Japanese and qilin for the Chinese. Much like the European unicorn they are discribed dozens of different ways, sometimes more lionlike, sometimes more deerlike, or dog like, or dragonlike, but it’s not a set this is x and this is y, and actually the names are often used interchangeably. Totally cool fact though? I think it’s the Chinese whose word for giraffe is “kirin”, how cool is that? I have a couple of different Asian (antique) Kirins and they look very different from each other. I always thought Melody’s momma kirin looks like the deer version and the papa looks like the lion version. But having said that, id LOVE to see slightly different kirins (or qilin) made, I’d quickly run out of money.
So again, not at all trying to call anyone out, this is just one of the creatures I’ve loved since childhood, I ever have a stylized version I drew tattooed on me. I can’t even discribe how excited I am to see the new forked horned kirins!!
Melody posted photos of a WIP “quillin” on her Facebook page in 2016 (March and May, maybe other times). From the old “So, what’s next on the schedule?” thread:

Quilins have doglike bodies, big fangs,and almost always have two antlers, not one horn.”

Yep, that would be before I decided to do more than collect and fix Windstone and started lurking around the forum and whatnot.
There’s so much variation to these beasts I’ve no doubt Melody can come up with some amazing things. Heck, even a sculpted version of the odd old drawing of a giraffe/kirin I’ve seen would be super cool.
Too cute! I like the hooves, but I also like the idea of paws; I think they’d go better with his feline face, and besides it would make him more distinct from the KiRins. 🙂

It’s hard to keep track of my past squeaks at this point, so forgive me if these have been posted already.
I’d like to squeak for Production/LP dragons in Mystic Umber, and for Production/LP dragons in Spring Bud, please! Of all the pieces that came out of last year, these left the biggest impression on me (at least that I can remember), and I now dream desperately of owning Lap Dragons in these colors!
Jaguar Flame and Black Rainbow are tied for favorite as far as Griffins go; so they are my squeaks for the next Prod/LP griffin release.
If I can, I’d also like to squeak for the Ebay Gallery to be updated – I tried looking for the Mystic Umber and Spring Bud pieces there, but couldn’t find them. Gina needs her own gallery, too! 🙂

Melody, if you ever did a batch of GB Fennecs in the same style as the sparkly Ladies, I would be helpless to resist! Totally a “here, take my money FASTER” reaction. Please let that be the next smaller-size Grab Bag you do!
Bat-Ears would also be pretty sweet.

well fennecs are about half their size long-wise….sooooo tiny butts!

Ah, I see! Thanks for the comparison, GardenNinja! You’re right, there’s a pretty significant difference in surface area.
(I still wouldn’t mind some fancy GB Fennecs, even if they have be ‘minimalist’ compared to the kitties! Or if the Bat Ears are a little bit bigger, maybe they’d be a better choice?)
