Well Cheryl and I were talking about a certain subject and that is all the hints I am gonna give ya. πŸ˜›

Ooooh, okay, I vaguely remember this but the upsetting part was NOT intentional….I can’t even remember what it was we were talking about but I DO remember thinking “Dear God I don’t want Ski to be mad at me, God I hope she’s not- should I PM her!”

If my sent-folder of the PM mailbox were bigger I could find where I PMed her.
OOOOOHhhh!! I remember! It was about the daycare!! It hit too close to home was all! Yep, I do recall that. Well…I think thats what you are referring to? I think Mimi was involved in the conversation, too.
Oh yes…I remember that. And I also remember thinking that I hoped you weren’t mad at me for some comment that I made… Definitely an example of how easy it is for misunderstandings to occur on a forum like this!

Yep. I was upset at the time, but I soon realized that it was nothing personal. I felt bad afterwords. I just feel guilty about the amount of time I have to spend at work. Dang work! Where’s my rich husband??

I’m not against it, Nam. I can tell just by looking at it you put a lot of effort into it. I guess it just surprised me that a – to use an understatement – brown griffin with shiny feathers can go for more than a big griffin male or certain OW prototypes. I don’t how much production cost is on the painted production sculpts, but I do for the PYOs, so comparing the intitial cost with the final caught me ooff guard. But the hourly wage comparison is good.

No problem! πŸ˜€ Just sharing my side of it, as it were!

        Greater Basilisk wrote:

Do you get any percentage of the sale price of your PYOs?

Yes, but only after it reaches a certain dollar amount do I get a percentage, but I can’t say any more than that. πŸ˜‰

        Greater Basilisk wrote:

True. Of course the price Gold Leaf OW would have been justified by his gold leaf alone, even if he were produced more than once. But again, my view is that the PYOs are paintable by the public, and, no offense to Nam, the copperplate theoretically can be reproduced by other painters. The dragons are theoretically can not. I get the impression taht people are paying just as much for the name as for the griffin, which is perfectly fine. That’s just my take.
Best wishes on your griff, Ski. I hope he goes for more than those 71 dollars…

I don’t know the actual cost of the gold leaf in the amount that was put on the OW so I cannot speculate what his material costs were, so that is true! πŸ™‚

I don’t mean to be argumentive at all- perhaps I simply misunderstand you, but let me share…
The other dragons are legally paintable by the public too (just NOT encouraged) as shown by some of the repaints that have been listed previously (and some did fetch a very healthy sum of money). The copperplate griffin can no more be reproduced than any of the Windstone line can be by another painter. (If someone wanted to reproduce one of Melody’s OOAK color patterns for example, they could repaint an existing sculpt to do so. That would be no more right nor legal than someone doing so with the copperplate griffin). I hope that makes sense. A natural coloration (such as a hawk or eagle) really cannot be protected because it’s naturally occurring, but one that is a unique design and does not occur in nature, such as the copperplate griffin (or anyone else’s unique paint job) can be protected. Windstone owns the pieces I do for them.

But!! That delves back into the copyright protection debate, and I don’t much feel like debating;I’d far prefer to leave that to those that enjoy it. πŸ™‚

Maybe you should start taking lessons from Anna Nicole Smith…

To tell the truth, I don’t know how you do it. I feel like I’m going crazy just with work.

And yes…I can use a rich husband too!

Man do I have a lot of typos in these posts. Okay, the last one referred to Ski, not to Nam, so Nam, please don’t think I’m crazy.
Thanks for your input, Nam. I didn’t realize the Windstone Artist PYO color schemes were just as copyrighted and protected as the dragon colors. Now I understand the huge price better. Thank you.

This topic has gone crazy…I think it pretty much exploded. πŸ˜†

9 pages in 2 days? I’d say so. It’s bound to get back on track when the auction’s over, though.

            Isn’t that, like, 6days, 1hr, and 3 min away?

Not quite copyrighted, but protected. πŸ™‚

              However…

Did you know that with current copyright laws, all artists are instantly protected by copyrights when they create something (given that it’s not infringing on another work)? A lot of people don’t realize this and think they need to register a copyright in order to be protected, which is no longer the case. Neat, huh?

Color schemes are not technically copyright-able, but are protected in other ways by Windstone. πŸ™‚

Oh man, I said I wouldn’t get into copyright anymore. Sorry! I’m done now!! πŸ˜†

Ok, here is a question to put us back on topic; Why isn’t there a gallery pic for the copperplate? I just breezed right by it the first time.

Well, whatever we’ve got to discuss can be just as well discussed here as in a another thread. I don’t think there’ll be a problem keeping this alive that long, do you? πŸ™‚

I’ll forgive that if you’ll excuse my egging you on… πŸ˜€ So if I were to make a near a copy of the copperplate as I could, would Windstone get after me? I figure I can probably make it just for me but if I wanted to sell it you wouldn’t be happy.

I think that’s just kind of to make people look…since people were all freaking out when Nam posted pics…

kind of trying to keep it calmer…
