400 bucks and more for a 30 buck sculpt? Yeah, it’s pretty, but that’s more than the big griffin males went for.
Dang American keyboards. I can-t tape on these things.
Anyway, that bid seems somewhat extreme to me. Even if I couldn-t do PYOs myself and bought them, I-d never pay that much. But all the better for Nam. Go Nam ❗

It’s all subjective- you could pay a plumber $400 for 4 hours of his time, whereas I worked on this griffin at least 25 odd hours. The only differnce between the plumber and I is that he makes a lot more money than I for a service that is almost always necessary, whereas I make my money on a service that is not at all necessary. A job is a job is a job and allthough I would always prefer a running toilet over a pretty collectable, we are workers nonetheless. 😉 Why did some people feel the Old Warriors that went for over $1,000 were worth it? I can’t tell you, but value of things like this is always subjective. Also bear in mind that this is Windstone selling the griffin- not I. I only painted it.

I really like the royal Ki-Rin, I wonder is Nam will be painting other PYOs besides griffins soon?

Yep! They have already sold one of my dragons, and I just got a batch of new dragons, wolves, and kirins to start painting. I don’t know -when- they will be listed, but I will start work on them soon now that I’m home again! 🙂

Ah. Yes, that too. *chuckles* The folks at Windstone are in it for the money, after all.

Yes, that’s true- they have to afford to keep their business going after all! But I don’t think that’s why they made bidder ID private (otherwise they’d have done that by now!). Things DID get a little too snippy here on the forums.

I agree with Nam…I’m about to be and Interior Designer….charging $75 an hour….on top of trip charges and initial meeting charges…..

            if I charged that for paint job on a griffin….or a kirin… 😯

just cause it’s just painted…..doesn’t make it anything less than the regular design work….

Yes, but does it end every so often when you lose a piece?
I HATE this American keyboard. Where-s the apostrophe?

Immediate left of the “enter” button.

Well I haven’t CRIED yet because I lost a piece- either that or I discarded it with all my other emotional baggage (lost in transit muhahahaha!) But on the other hand I can’t recall ever wanting something so much I cried because I couldn’t have it. It usually hurts more if I get it and it gets broken- then I cry.

Apostrophe. Thank you, Cheryl. Can’t live without my apostrophe. Now if the y was z it would be a lot easier too.

I’m not against it, Nam. I can tell just by looking at it you put a lot of effort into it. I guess it just surprised me that a – to use an understatement – brown griffin with shiny feathers can go for more than a big griffin male or certain OW prototypes. I don’t how much production cost is on the painted production sculpts, but I do for the PYOs, so comparing the intitial cost with the final caught me ooff guard. But the hourly wage comparison is good. Do you get any percentage of the sale price of your PYOs?

LOL…what do you call a cumpulsion to read every post? Is there an official term for that? Cuz I suffer…

                #520655

I’m housesitting with the kids asleep, I have nothing else to do, so yeah, I’ve got a compulsion to read every post. And I can’t come up with a reasonable name for it, either. 🙂

I think you’d have to compare with more similar item, meaning other one-of-a-kind pieces. If you do, you’ll see that the winner is actually getting a great deal on those. The cheapest one of Melody’s OOAK was actually the Wedding Cake Family at $735, followed by the Black and Tan Family at $855. And if you look at single pieces the next one in line Gold Leaf POW at $1428.

Although I guess we could discuss this all day without coming to a consensus. It’s all in the eye of the beholder really (or in some cases, in the bank account of the beholder! 😀 )

I was thinking the same thing. I hope you do. The rest of us can sell our painted wonders and make all the profit. I hoped you did too.

And besides everyone…We will all know who won…cause I am sure the winner won’t be able to keep that secret for long! I know if I won I would be bragging fast as I could type!

True. Of course the price Gold Leaf OW would have been justified by his gold leaf alone, even if he were produced more than once. But again, my view is that the PYOs are paintable by the public, and, no offense to Nam, the copperplate theoretically can be reproduced by other painters. The dragons are theoretically can not. I get the impression taht people are paying just as much for the name as for the griffin, which is perfectly fine. That’s just my take.
Best wishes on your griff, Ski. I hope he goes for more than those 71 dollars…
