I just ordered a small PYO dragon! I’ve been stocking up on painting materials the last couple weeks and I just couldn’t wait any longer to have something to paint! I even ordered the antiquing medium from Amazon. I’m ready to just start painting and see what happens! Its going to be slow, since I’ll have to paint after the kids are in bed (they are 4 and 2). I love blues and teal colors, so I’ll be starting with that. Purple is also a favorite, so maybe purple accents? We’ll see how it goes!

I also have some champagne metallic color that I’m going to use for the horns and such. I think it’ll warm the piece up more than gold.
I got a couple different brands to see what I like. I played with the Winsor Newton ones and love how creamy they are. That being said, how much should I dilute with the medium? I have never primed any of the PYOs that I have painted, nor have I washed them prior to painting unless I have recently stripped an old paint job off of a piece. They come from the factory pretty darn clean, so the most that I have ever done is gently wipe a piece off with a very slightly damp paper towel (if it’s been sitting on a shelf and collected any dust).
If you do end up washing your piece, just keep in mind that gypsum soaks up water like crazy! If you wash a piece under a faucet you should definitely let it air dry for a few days to make sure that no water is trapped inside when you start painting – if it is, it can make for a forever-tacky paint job, and can ruin your hard work!

Well, he’s too way cute! My little guys ain’t so little any more – they stand at about 6’4″ and call me shorty – how can they do that when I’m 5’10”? heeheeheehee. They both love pyos and have participated in the swaps. Hopefully Brandon will be so inclined in a few years!
