This looks pretty similar to the mother griffin gargoyle, minus nest.

Or am I just seeing things?

Thanks everyone! Although I had a lot of fun restoring him, I’m not a collector of the wizards. I think in the next day or two I’ll put up for trade or the like in the Flea Market, if anyone’s interested. He’s an old boy and deserves to be where he’s appreciated most!

Hi all! Several months back, Skigod gave me a great opportunity to fix up one of the old large wizards, the kind with the blue and red robe. I think I’ve done a pretty good job! Pics of the before and after are here:

The fragments were glued back with white glue, and any gaps filled in with Apoxiesculpt and then textured. Repaired areas were repainted with acrylics, lightly glossed with sealant, and the gold accents touched up with a paint pen. This is my first major repair, and I’d love to do more with other pieces in the future, so I wanted to know what you guys think. Again, thank you Ski!

Hate to say it but I agree with Nam, I’d have opted to restore rather than repaint, if I were in your shoes. Just because it’s broken doesn’t mean it’s worthless. Several people were offering for this one, for example. I’d imagine that a good percentage of emeralds out there have at least some damage to them, given their age. Still, your color choices sound like good ones. It’ll be interesting to see how it turns out!

Hello all! I’ve wanted to paint a lovely ceramic dragon and castle statue, and griffin statue I’ve had for some time. But I don’t have space for them, so I’d like to offer custom paint jobs on them both, to a new owner!

The griffin is brand new, fired ceramic. 11.5″ long by 9.5″ tall. Really nice detail with separated, tall wings. Signed 1991 DHM on the base.

This fella is HUGE. 15.5″ tall by 11″ wide. It had a previous (aka hideous) paint job, but I’ve coated him in primer and he’s ready for a new look. The detail is really thorough, his scale patterns, especially on the legs, remind me of a Windstone dragon. Lots of color combo possibilities with this as well as antiques, washes, etc. The castle is hollow, so you could put a bunch of candles and some incense inside, and have the castle lit while the smoke comes out of the dragon’s mouth!

Both can be painted as you like them with artist-quality acrylics, sealed with your choice of finishes. I’m up for any challenge, even if it’s a ‘surprise me’ type of case (I’ve got some great ideas for the dragon, hehe). Although my gallery only has one PYO in it at the moment, you can use it as a reference for my quality of work.

Please PM me or reply here if you’d like to make an offer! I suppose I’ll also consider offers for the blank unpainted figures as well. I would happily accept Windstone pieces in trade also, especially PYOs and dragons, even in damaged condition. If nothing comes from this, they’ll go up on Ebay and I’ll let you all know if they do.

Yeah I’ve seen them before on Ebay too. Looks like those super-pearly cheap ceramics you’d find in a dollar store!

So sorry to hear about your loss safyre_dream. I have a fat, happy tabby that I’ve grown up with too, she’s getting old and I dread the day I’ll have to leave her behind. I understand what you must be going through.

For some reason, there seems to be a glut of flapcats on Ebay right now. I haven’t checked to see if any are damaged, but you might have an option there.

Congrats ddvm! I thought he might go to me for a while there too *pouts*, but it’s good to know he’s got a good home! Much better off with a forum member than a relative stranger on Ebay. Please post more pictures when you get him!

in reply to: Looking for a soft-feather PYO griffin… #590372

Hello all! I’d like to try and get my hands on the soft-feather version of the PYO griffin, so I thought I’d ask here. I know there’s a blue-eyed one up on ebay now, but I already have a blue-eyed regular griff so I thought I’d try for a little variety 🙂 I suppose I’d still consider one though, if that’s what’s out there. So if anyone has one that needs a new home, please let me know.

I’d also be happy to trade for it: my going rate as payment for a PYO commission is a blank sculpture. So if you have two, I’ll happily paint one for you and we’ll call it a trade. Thanks all!

in reply to: How do you support your local dealer when… #589175

I guess that depending on where you live, shipping charges might be cost-prohibitive when it comes to buying from a store vs. online. Plus, if you buy from a store, you don’t risk the item getting damaged during shipping, and you have the opportunity to hand-pick the piece. Since the different artists cause slight variations, some people might like some paint jobs better than others. *shrugs*

in reply to: Gold leafing? #587094

If you’re talking about production pieces, only a few that have been sold over Ebay have been done using real gold leaf. Standard run pieces have gold accents made with a gold paint marker. I think Deco is the brand that they recommend for those trying to fix damaged gold parts. Anyway, Melody has stated in the past that copying the coloration and patterning of her creations onto like dragons, griffins, etc. would be a violation of copyright and infringement on her artistic style, if I remember right. So the answer would be that you could still use gold accents, but not so as to mimic production pieces.
