I want to check in with everyone about current website issues. I’ve been really swamped lately dealing with a variety of rather urgent site issues, and don’t see that changing until about the end of this week at the earliest. I’m trying to simultaneously work on the issues that have been posted here recently, but I know the response time has been slower than usual. We only have one part-time person to manage the website (that’s me), so I appreciate your patience.
As for the wonky site display that several people have reported: Sychia posted that disabling AdBlock, or whitelisting our site, resolved the issue, and that’s been confirmed by others. But at least one user is still having this problem (only on Firefox) despite disabling all add-ons. Is anyone else still experiencing this after turning off ad-blocking software? If so, please post here or PM me.
Forum signature length: several people have complained about long forum signatures taking up too much space, especially on mobile devices. The only solution to this is to shorten the maximum length, but I need to do some testing of this to see how changing the max length will affect existing signatures, etc. I hope to get to this within the next week.
If there are other issues that are urgent or semi-urgent, please post or remind me and I will get to them as soon as I can.
Lastly, I want to thank all of you for bringing issues to our attention (including the presence of spam in the forum and classifieds). We simply don’t have the resources to monitor all the sections of the site as closely as we would like, so it’s really helpful to get input from our community when problems arise.
Nightcrow – I just wanted to say the reason the site is displaying funky(if it is still displaying funky for you!) is because of adblock. I was just getting ready to post something in the forums about the site looking exactly like your screenshots. Then I added this site to the exclusion list and now it looks just fine. We must be subscribed to the same blocking lists. Either way, this is definitely a site that’s ok to turn off the blocking for.
Thank you for posting this. I’ve been really frustrated trying to solve this, and it hadn’t occurred to me that ad blocking was the culprit.
Is there a point to an Instagram account if you don’t have a smart phone? Some serious opinions please.
I recently found a program called “Windowed”. It’s a separate browser, 100% free, created by a photography-computer engineering person who got tired of Instragram being butt-ish by only working with mobile stuff. Windowed works by tricking Instagram into thinking it’s a mobile browser and allows you to post pictures from your computer to your Instagram account. You can only use it for Instagram access. I sat down to tinker with it tonight and was able to post a bunch of my pyos to Instagram without issue. You just have to use the + sign at the middle of the bottom of the browser/app to upload pictures NOT the camera icon in the upper left.
Anyone who doesn’t have a smart phone, take note! Thanks for posting this Rylorien!
When I was in the store and added an item to my cart and tried to look up shipping for a different address for someone in the US I couldn’t even see the options for countries and states because the writing is too light until you highlight it. I really had trouble with it so can you make the words darker or black instead of almost white? You can see I circled the problem here where you can barely see the options.
I fixed that yesterday, but you may need to clear your browser cache and reload the page to see it properly.
This will definitely help. I had the same problem as Bodine. Was only able to post a couple images in my gallery after resizing them and then it cut me off. I’ll have to check out the expanded limit. Maybe I’ll actually be able to fit all my pics in. But it’ll take a lot of photo resizing before I can try.
Yes, it’s really helpful if you can resize images before uploading them. Images straight from a camera can be 5 or 6 MB each. Properly resized they would be around 100K (0.1 MB), so then you can add a lot more without hitting that limit!
I posted this in another thread, but someone suggested that I bring it here because the other thread might not be seen, so: I’m having problems with the website and forum displaying incorrectly!
Starting this afternoon, I’ve been experiencing problems with the windstoneeditions.com website displaying strangely.
Sorry you’re having this problem. I’m looking into it right now.
Is this only for the people who painted them, or can I photograph ones I own and upload the pics with name of painter?
Please post any photos you like. But yes, remember to credit the painter. We’ll look forward to seeing them!
Can we please have a way to opt out of seeing signatures? I’ve seen a few that take up more space on the mobile screen than what the user types in a post.
It is not possible for each individual forum user to turn signatures on and off. What I can do is limit the maximum number of characters allowed in a signature. Currently it is set to the default setting, which is 512 characters. I’ll have to determine the appropriate maximum. I haven’t heard complaints from anyone else about this, so I don’t know if this is bothering people generally. Anyone who has an opinion about it, please chime in.
Question,Why did it allow me to open Gallery 2 but will not let me post pics, nor in Gallery 1.Says I have used allotted space.I have quite a few more so what do I do? Thanks
Sorry, you’re talking about your PYO galleries on this site?
Yes sir.Just curious,no biggie
Looks like your images had exceeded the default 10MB limit. I increased it to 20MB, so you should be able to add more photos now. Let me know if you can’t.

Thanks to all of you who have already emailed, granting us permission to post photos from your PYO galleries to Instagram. We will start doing that soon, in the order that we receive(d) permission from you. You can also grant that permission via this forum thread if you prefer.
When contacting us for this purpose, please include your full name (which all of you have done so far) and your Instagram username (if you have an account) so that we can properly credit you for your images.
Thanks!
Can anyone explain what instagram is in much better detail.
I try very hard to not add a bunch of apps to my phone and I refuse to even use Facebook, basically because I was worried about things like what has happened with FB recently and everyones information getting hijacked.
Is this possible with instagram? Do you end up getting a lot of spam type messages? Is it a chat app or just for photos?
Thank you for any information!
Instagram is a visually-oriented social media platform. If you have an account, you can browse posts on a computer at instagram.com, but you have to use the phone app to post anything. Posts consist of an image (photo) and whatever caption you include, if any. That’s it—it’s a very simple app. Then other users can “like” your posts and/or comment on them.
Your feed (a chronological display of posts) is populated by photos uploaded by other users whom you “follow” and by photos whose captions include any hashtags that you follow. Personally, I’ve never gotten a spam message on Instagram, but I can’t say for sure that it never happens.
As for putting personal data at risk…There isn’t nearly as much data to be gleaned from an instagram account as there is from a Facebook account. The only info that could potentially be harvested would be:
- email address
- whatever you include in your user profile (if anything)
- whatever captions you include with your posts
- which posts you “like”
- the comments you make on other users’ posts
- what terms you search for
I think that’s about it. And honestly that’s a very small drop in the bucket compared to what Google is collecting about you constantly. So I don’t think there’s much of a security risk, but it’s worth noting that Instagram is owned by Facebook.
I don’t use Instagram myself but could we post them here?
You can post them in the PYO Galleries. Just go to your “My Account” area (link at top of page) and you can create galleries there to be included in the PYO gallery.
But Instagram is a free app, and pretty fun, so you might want to give it a try.
