Heh. Some kind of scam then. Maybe one of the bidders was actually the seller bidding to drive up the price.
Hey, at least I didn’t go into details! *grins* It could always be worse.
I didn’t make this, no. A guy from the UK who does amazing cosplay suits made it.
Yeah, furcons are great! The people you meet there are always interesting, one way or another. And I, of course, do wonderful business and make scads of money.
Heee. And I guess there IS the “other” kind of furpile, now that I think of it. My usual con roommate always brings his boyfriend, so, er… there /are/ moments when I’m careful to knock before going into the room. (But they don’t wear fusuits when they’re doing that. I somethimes wonder if anybody ever actually wears a fursuit wile getting it on. I mean… you die of sweat just standing still in an air-conditioned room while wearing one. How on earth could you, er… yeah.)
I’m a little hyper today, don’t mind me!

Mostly party. Also attend panels and discuss art, writing, costuming, animal activism, etc.
There’s buying and selling in the dealer’s room, and quite a few come to get art, books, and fuzzy stuff that’s hard to find. But mostly it’s for the partying.
Heee, “furpiling” Here’s a SHOCKING video that shows what “furpiling” actually is! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YpYswGtg5s
(I’ve NEVER actually heard any real confirmed stories about the other kind of furpiling. Maybe it happens, maybe it doesn’t.)
And as far as I can tell, CSI has a “sensationalist” agenda. They’re not anti crime, they just want to seem shocking and strange. I hate that kind of thing, it’s shallow, and stupid. And whether CSI has meant to be anit-furry or not, it has REALLY hurt the reputation of the furry fandom.

Bah! Humbug! You just have no taste for good art! (Just kidding…)
November 29, 2006 at 8:42 pm in reply to: Give me your tired, your poor, your damaged Windstones… #512143I’m pretty sure that one went for more than $40, or I would have bought it! But I got one later on from somebody else anyhow. I have an embarassment of orientals, but I want more, because I neeeeeeeed a jade one!
Somebody here mentioned him a while back, and I’ve beeen keeping my eyes peeled for the costume of him I know I saw ever since. I found it!

Awesome, isn’t it? There’s some in progress pictures on the head in the gallery as well. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v256/Fatkraken/?start=20
Hmmm… I have no idea how placement is organized. Their system is weird. Obviously it’s not alphabetical!
Because the squeaky wheel gets the grease!
I just wanted to mention fledgelings again, since when we were talking about them at your place last weekend, the conversation moved on to something else before I could really finish explaining why I love them so. I know I’m not the only one who collects them specifically, and I am SO excited about the new old green ones. (New old green. That sounds wrong. But you know what I mean!)
The thing with fledgelings is that we can afford to get them in all the colors. I suppose I could afford to get hatching dragons in all colors too, but they’re mostly white anyhow, and young dragons, though also affordable, are an older sculpt and it shows, they’re just not as graceful and nicely made as the fledgelings.
Now if I wanted to get, say, the old warriors in all the colors, well first I’d have to pay $200+ for all the ones currently in production. Then I’d have to go hunting and pay $300 or more for the retired ones. THEN I’d have to watch for the limited edition ones and pay from $300 to $2,000 for them! Getting an old warrior in every color ever made would cost me thousands and thousands and thousands.
I got a fledgeling in every single color for probably less than $600 for the entire set, including retired, limited production ones, and all. I couldn’t even get ONE silver old warrior for that price.
I LOVED the violet flame old warriors, but I just can’t afford one. But I want something in violet flame, thus, my frequent agitation for a fledgeling in that color. I loved the silver old warriors even more, and though I know the silver won’t be nearly so neat on a fledgeling, it will still be neat enough, so I want one! And autumn leaf, and flame, and russet, and hybrid emerald peacock, and black emerald peacock, and black violet peacock, and… er… you probably get the picture.
Fledgelings!
Arlla – I’m pretty sure she’s answered this elsewhere, on some of the other colors, and the answer is “It’s not intentional, it just happens.” They have a lot of painters, and each person does them a tiny bit differently, and then over years they can mutate a little, plus sometimes they have to get a different kind of paint, like with the ruby ones, where the original more ceanberry paint wasn’t working out and had to be switched for one that was more pink.
If she wants to give a more definitive answer, that’d be great, but we have talked about color variations in general before. When you’re having stuff hand painted, there’s no way to make it all identical. (Which is good by me! I’m glad that every one is a tiny bit different.)
That went higher than even silly bidding wars ought to account for. I seriously thing that the winner is somebody who knows the seller and wants to help them out. It fits. Though I suppose there’s no accounting for human stupidity, and it could be something else.
WTF? Yeah, that must be somebody who just wants to throw money at the seller, because it had a BIN of just $145!
So… so I’m kinda wanting a little more money if I can get it. (I’ll probably be selling my PYO wolf after I paint it, I really shouldn’t have bought it, but I wanted one! And I shouldn’t have bought the peacock empress either, but they’re selling out so fast everywhere, when will I get another one that cheap?)
Anyhow… I’m thinking of selling my old purple and gold young dragon. It’s the first repaint I ever did. There are some rather lousy photos here:
http://bladespark.topcities.com/repainting.html
Just scroll down all the way to see him finished. I’m doing a better version of my purple dragon character with a different Windstone that I like better, with better paints and knowing what I’m doing, so I don’t really need this guy anymore.
So if anybody wants him, you can make an offer. I’ll take money, or other Windstones in trade. I really have no idea of how much he’s worth.
