Bump for this. Goes up for sale at the end of the week.
I’ve started using FedEx to ship things. I’ve yet to pay over $20 for the shipping by itself (packing materials are another story, though), even with a declared value/insurance. This was mostly because I couldn’t get to the post office when it was open, but now it’s because they’re just plain cheaper.
The last big dealer I remember was JBJ in Champaign. They had a wall dedicated to them, but they closed before my grandmother passed. Back in 2000, I think. It was a neat little shop with all kinds of collectibles from stuffed animals, to the Disney statues to Windstone, stationary, etc.
I’d imagine when the economy comes ’round again, more will open up, but watching them fail is tough.

I went through some serious periods of depression after sending my resume sailing into the Internet void and not hearing anything back; I know how you feel. Don’t lose hope and optimism. I think you’ll find work.
I wouldn’t call my periods of depression serious. But I won’t say that I don’t have them. I’m not in danger of living in public housing or anything, but my options aren’t exactly the ones I prefer.
Pass on by if you don’t want to hear a brief whine (There might be some cheese in the fridge to go with it, if you’re hungry.)
Is anybody else job hunting in this market? I’ve been looking since August last year when I graduated and I’ve had a grand total of four interviews. The most recent was with the local paper this past Monday. I’m desperately clinging to some optimism with that one, since it’s only been a week and the guy seemed genuinely interested, and I had a reference he had known and worked with as an ‘in’. I haven’t given up hope on it yet, but I’m afraid to get too optimistic, as I’ve been disappointed over and over these past few months.
Obviously, I am having a miserable time finding a job. Anywhere. The two or three of you from the forum who also watch my LJ know this already.
I’m working 30+ hours a week at my retail job, which is OK money, but not enough to keep me from having to move back in with my parents at the end of next month, if nothing pans out.
I always feel like I’m in the middle of something and I’m unable to really set up to take contracted freelance clients right now, it’s either work at the department store or something here at home I have to take care of (which will be moving, here shortly). I’m desperate to ‘get on with my life’ so to speak. I realize I’m living it every day, but I feel stuck in limbo. My 14 year old truck is not going to last forever, I have loans and CC debt to pay off, and just…bleh.
I’m looking for work in the midwest (St Louis, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Memphis, etc.) but I’m starting to range a little wider in what I apply for. I just sent a resume to a company in Alabama. If you guys hear of any decent paying job openings and you live in the midwest or close by, let me know, will you?
/vent out, you will probably never hear anything like this from me again…unless you watch my LJ.

That’s the problem, I can’t remember! I sold those dragons a while ago, so I’ve got no idea who might be missing a box!
No one came forward to claim, so, up for offers now!
Current offer is $5.
Well, my sketch was close?
She’s quite the cutie!
Sarcoptic mange is kind of difficult to find on skin scrapings sometimes, especially if you’re giving lots of baths. The mites live more on the surface of the skin than demodex mites do. I think for every 20 or so times I’ve seen demodex on a slide, I might have seen scabies but once.
Seconding the do be conscious of the fact that it’s zoonotic. It is self limiting in humans (meaning, you’ll get a rash of itchy read bumps and it goes away eventually, you won’t have to dip yourself) but it’s unpleasant!

Simon’s eyebrows were the funniest part.
So far things still seem to be clear as mud.
purpledoggy wrote:I don’t mind jumping through whatever hoops they want me to. I’ve had them come to my home to check it out, talk to my vet, talk to my friends and family and spend hours with us getting to know us. Its just that I’ve spent all this time trying to do what they want of me just to have them either a)ignore me and never talk to me again or b) take the dog out from under me and not tell me about it. Its just so frustrating that I’m ready to just find a good breeder and get on a waiting list so I know I’ll have a healthy quality puppy and not have to go through the frustration and heartache these rescues love to put me through.
There’s nothing at all wrong with finding a good, knowledgeable breeder to buy a puppy from, and if that’s what you decide you want to do, by all means, go for it.
I also second the suggestion of finding a county or city animal control shelter (and not a rescue) if you want to adopt. Most of the time those shelters only have something like a $40 fee, a short form to fill out and no home checks, contracts or any of that other unreasonable mess (including the clause that some rescues like to include in their paperwork stating that they can come do a home check at any time and if they don’t like how you’re keeping the dog, they’ll take it away. I *hate* that one!) that high handed rescues like to use.
Best of luck, PD. Some resuces will always wonder why they’re full and can’t adopt out their dogs.

oh and the iguana’s name is zoey 😀 i will be getting her a tank and stuff wooo new pet
That iguana will get to be about 6 feet long once he’s full grown and would do best at that point with a very large enclosure. Most of these critters end up abandoned, euthanized or donated to zoos because the owners don’t or can’t properly care for them. They’re known to be foul tempered and have a pretty mean lash with that tail!
IIRC they’re pretty strict herbivores, spinach, fruits, romaine lettuce, etc.
Here’s a greenie site with lots of info: http://www.greenigsociety.org/careinfo.htm
