Koishii and Daydreamer here, I know Machinegutz does amazing stuff also, think Frozendragon does, Rusti(?), there’s lots of talent here and you’re sure to find some beautiful stuff! It probably help the artist to match themselves with you if they knew exactly what type of stuff you were looking for- style and media (there’s great sculptors besides Ms. Melody also!) 🙂

Yup! As a matter of fact, I have a couple of unicorn pictures that need homes.

      See: Moondance as an example.

But yes, plenty of folks here on this forum to pick from!

        Bump.

Need a new scanner. I’d like to get $100 for this girlie, but feel free to make an offer.

“]Most of the problem, apart from not being male, is that you are not putting a price tag on your work for family. “If it’s free, it’s probably worthless.”

So. Everything you do, that is something you’d charge others for, has a price tag. Quote the price, and then add “But you get the family discount of 50%” (or whatever percentage works). Tell your Dad and brother you expect the same from them – they bill you out for work they do for you, but give you the family discount.

You probably won’t save money doing this, but they will come to respect you and appreciate your work.

As for the other thing, try asking your dad if he’d be up for paying half towards a sex-change operation, so that you can then expect to be treated as an equal. (But keep your fingers crossed that he doesn’t simply say “Sure, what a great idea!”)

That might work with my dad, to a certain extent. Right now we’re sort of scratching each other’s backs – even though he’s always done all the work on my truck (taking care of daughter, ya know), but now he’s in a situation where he needs me to be around to help with Illustrator and Photoshop and he’s realized what I actually do, to a degree. He still doesn’t get the art part, but now he gets all the work that goes into the technical program tickling.

My brother…is, well, my little brother, and even if I put a price tag on what I do (he got a pencil drawing one year of his car at that time for his birthday – something he’s heard me say in the time between then and now that I’d charge someone else $100 for, because it *hurt*) he’d just snort and tell me I should do it free, because he’s family. Or, in the case of his car, like he just did last weekend: “It’s a sponsorship!”

Erm, no? Actually, it was a favor for Dad and he just wanted me to find out what you wanted on the car, you snot.

As for the sex change thing, it might be enough to make them laugh, at least? It made *me* grin. 😉

I was looking at an Epson V30, so I think I might go that route. It sucks that HP won’t update their drivers for Snow Leopard (and that Snow Leopard is different enough that the old drivers won’t work with it).

Frozen – I have an Epson SP1400 printer that I got for Christmas a couple years ago. I loves it. All my prints look like they came from a lab.

Thanks WSC. Given what I usually see on the little track they go to most weekends, I thought this high contrast white on black with red accents would serious stand out (the rest of the car is black). But I guess they’re going to use stock flames or something from dad’s stock books. Nothing real custom like this. Their loss.

Bet a paycheck that when dad goes to print it out, that he’ll be calling me to the basement to help him.

I really don’t know what’s wrong with it. Brother wouldn’t offer anything constructive beyond ‘it looks bad’.

The wing that ‘sucked so bad’. Yeah, there were some more things I had planned to do with it, but obviously I’m not now. There’s no point in me tweaking it if they’re going to refuse to use it.

I don’t mind doing stuff for Dad, he does all the maintenance on my truck for no charge, making a few things when he asks isn’t an issue. Being treated like I should bend over backwards to please them for unpaid work that they think is So Easy no matter what I tell them is.

It’s far easier to make stuff for my mother, who’s simply pleased I’ve helped her out.

Sure, as long as you’re not looking for the raised metal stuff. I can get a flat one and cut letters to put on it, no problem.

As far as setting a monetary value on what I do, it’s pretty much useless. I can’t even get angry, because they don’t take me seriously. If I’m screaming and crying, Dad, especially, has no clue what caused it, and if I’m calm, I might as well be having a conversation with a wall for all they listen.

If you can help it, don’t do it, at least, not if you have a father and brother like mine, who are hyper critical of everything you do since you are female.

Long story short, dad has a micro sprint car that brother drives. We have the vinyl printer/cutter and some wrap vinyl, so dad wanted to wrap the wing and asked me to do something for it. Sure.

Asked brother what he wanted. Brother wants tribal along the bottom of the wing. Great.

Sketch a tribal design, send phone pic to brother.

                      Receive OK.

Scan in sketch and vectorize everything in Illustrator. Add a number. Few hours worth of work.

Oh wait, that looks terrible, you suck, now we want flames instead.

                      *facedesk*

In addition to a shirt dad asked me to do that brother refuses to wear. I’d feel worse if it were just me they do this too, but they asked my mother to embroider some shirts for them some time ago. Well, she did, and they all of a sudden didn’t like those either and won’t wear them. I swear I could make $100k+ a year and rival Milton Glaser or Jonathan Ive and they’d still do this to me cuz I’m a gurl.

I can’t not do anything for dad ever again, because the equipment in the basement was half bought for me – he can’t effectively use them without me. But I don’t think I’ll do anything else for my brother unless he’s got a really good reason why I ought.

                      /rant.

Well, looks like I’m in the market for a new scanner, my all-in-one won’t scan with Mac OS 10.6. I haven’t been for quite some time, so I’m curious what those of you who deal in real media 2d art prefer.

Flecks of blood in the vomit are probably just mucosa irritation from vomiting so much.

I hope she gets to feeling better soon and it’s not a surgical crisis, poor thing!

I’ve found that .jpg files can be memory hogs where as .gif and .png aren’t so bad. I’ll often crop what I want and then save it in all three file types to see which one fits the size restrictions the best. Here’s an article about the differences between gif jpg and png. And here’s one comparing gif vs jpg.

Psst – if you have Photoshop if you want to just save one type of file instead of going through all three – and see what the file size is before you create it use “Save for Web and Devices” An interface pops up where you can see each file type and how many kb it is before you save.

Just in case you didn’t know and wanted a time saver. 😉

Well, what if you smashed it up into dust, made it into clay, made a new original sculpture…but sold it as “Sculpture made from clay made from dust of Windstone!!” ? 😀

I’d have to ask why you’d do that in the first place and question your sanity.
