YAY! When I finally get this to work I am sooo happy!
(I used facebook this time to host the pic) Here is “Sorcerous Blaze”. He wants to be called Frank, though I think “Blaze” would fit him well, he is a blaze of color!
Thank you Prezaurian!! He is gorgeous!!You’re quite welcome and I’m very happy you like him! I’m so glad he arrived safe and sound to you. XD His friends call him ‘Frank’ (as in ‘Lisa Frank’) because of his “blaze of color”. 😉 lol

https://www.redbubble.com/people/prezaurian?ref=artist_title_nameMine will go out on Friday, I am sorry swap buddy! I ended up having a root canal on Monday after breaking a tooth and it has been murder, I am finally coming out of the pain killer induced haze and will get it out ASAP.
Oh my gosh, utmost sympathies on the root canal! I hope you feel better soon.

I love the realistic shading of the coat over the muscle heights and valleys. It looks just like the light playing off a well groomed horse’s coat. Really beautiful work. I especially like the natural colored horn brushed over with gold. So nice!

I know we’re all quite glad you’re here! And don’t feel shy or improper about being here without owning a Windstone (yet? lol). I only have one official piece and all the rest are PYOs. I don’t think it matters as long as you have a love for the figures.
You should never feel anxious about starting a PYO. As Bob Ross said, “We don’t make mistakes, we just have happy accidents.” I have a friend who is quite talented, but she was so nervous about making mistakes on her PYO that she never even started. Which makes me sad because she never gave herself a chance to even try. Every PYO (regardless of if it’s a Windstone or not) is an opportunity for practice and fun. I love painting them and hope I become as good as some of the other forum members one day.
But I digress, I think all the forum members are quite supportive of their fellow painters. And helpful when you have questions or problems. I’m very happy to be part of this community (even if sometimes I’m only a quiet participant).
As for collecting, I have a bad habit of it myself and have no space for anything (not that lack of space really stops me anyways)! In the end, you just reorganize…and position your figures ever closer together on the shelf. 😉

https://www.redbubble.com/people/prezaurian?ref=artist_title_nameAt the time of this posting, 33. I first discovered Windstones from a catalog called ‘Dancing Dragon’ around 1995-96. I saw the mother and male dragons along with some of the little dragons in the original ‘peacock’ color scheme and fell in love. But alas, I never had the disposable income for them and my parents never got me things like that for gifts (my dragon obsession was apparently too strange and statues weren’t considered practical gift purchases). It wasn’t until I visited ‘Boardwalk & Park Place’ in the Greenville Mall, SC (and had a job with a bit of disposable income of my own) around ’08-’09 that I finally got to get a mother dragon in emerald peacock. Since then, all my Windstone purchases have been PYO sculpts to fuel my desire to paint 😉 .
Oh and yes, interest is still going strong!

https://www.redbubble.com/people/prezaurian?ref=artist_title_nameAll three jewels were the same size, which I think is correct, since the jewels fit in the side ones fine. And those were the only one in the package. The gap isn’t as bad as it looks when you fiddle with it. It tilts to create the larger gap b/c it won’t sit flat, I think. I filled it in with some paper clay, now I’m waiting for it to dry. It’s looking pretty good, though.
Oh good that the gem size wasn’t the problem! And glad the fill-in idea seems to be working. I wish you lots of luck!
Mine tilted around like nobody’s business when I was trying to glue it in. If the paper clay works out for you I’ll have to consider it myself the next time I paint a Father Foo (because the glue medium was a bit too messy for my tastes, any improvement would be welcome).

https://www.redbubble.com/people/prezaurian?ref=artist_title_nameI’ve encountered that exact problem too (very recently), I managed to somehow tap the gem into place. It did NOT want to sit flat and it was quite frustrating. The way I solved my problem might be a bit annoying, but I’ll mention it anyways.
I put a drop of white glue into the grooves to fill them up. Let it congeal a bit, then placed the gem in. The problem with this is that you can end up with glue seeping up and getting on top of the gem. Ugh! Had to pop the gem out a few times to clean it, then start over and tap it into place. It was a delicate process, but fortunately white glue is easy to clean off if something goes wrong.
A possible alternative if you don’t feel comfortable using sharp tools to trim the sculpture. Good luck!
Thank you for the additional pictures! Okay…hmm. Not exactly the problem I had, similar but not exact (I didn’t understand the scope, I’m sorry!). My gem did not want to sit flat, true. But it also did not have the same significant gap your seems to have. Perhaps you have the problem Melody suggested? Maybe it’s not the correct gem size? Glue might still work, but I’d check gem size too.

https://www.redbubble.com/people/prezaurian?ref=artist_title_nameVery nice! Like the colors on both. The dragon is very interesting. Almost looks like old bronze with a shimmering green patina. And looking forward to seeing the griffity finished!

https://www.redbubble.com/people/prezaurian?ref=artist_title_nameOver the weekend I was sick and to distract myself, I painted a Halloween inspired Keeper I am calling “Moonrise Tiger”. His colors remind me of Halloween, and he has a little crescent moon and bats painted on his wings. I used half metallic, half regular paints which give him a pretty sparkle, and I also used interference in violet and green. He has a light coating of Clear Effex (“magic invisible paint”) which gives him a subtle sparkle in brighter lighting 🙂
This guy is for sale in the Classifieds section (click here)!
I love the colors combinations on this guy. He’s really nicely detailed and his colors really pop. And love him for another reason too. I’ve been contemplating doing stripes similar to his on a Foo Mom for a long time and being able to see how they can potentially look is awesome to me. Very cool.
I always enjoy looking at your PYOs, all of them are quite lovely in both pattern/design and how cleanly done they look.
